My driver side one leaks oil externally. About 9K miles and still running strong Interesting smell, sometimes smokes and people tell me my car is on fire (facepalm) Edit: USMB needs a Facepalm icon...

I think I will go 205/40/17 as I have found a few tire options that are affordable. According to the Miata.Net tire size calculator: Old tire: 185/70/13 New Tire: 205/40/17 Difference in height: .3" Difference in speedometer: 60mph actually means 60.7mph No big deal. But Id say that means I can drop 2 inches and not rub since if I dropped 2 inches now, I wouldnt rub... wheel wells look so huge...

If its an EA81, its got slightly less power than an EA82 but its probably more reliable. -

Thank you Cyfun! Sounds like Ill get to unleash my horsepower beast sooner rather than later I currently have a carbed EA82 (86 GL) and Im going with a SPFI EA82, so Ill get a little compression boost, plus Ive got a weber 32/36 on it, and Ill be sending my cams to Delta for a torque grind... I may see like 95 horsepower -

Breaking in the motor: in my thoughts (this could be dangerous) Taking it easy (oh god this will be hard) for the first 3-5k miles? Havent thought of break in oil yet... I use chevron 10W30 in it now since its like 2.69 a quart... would this be acceptable? Maybe a half/synthetic? Im with you... no knowledge of break-in oil as Ive never had something with 0 miles before (other than shoes) -

I will look next time hes here. Or you can when we are there Thursday It runs nicely, I didnt notice any funky noises, just funky looking stuff. Axles are toast on the front but that could be from the lift. Has a small oil leak I think, has a plastic crushwasher still :-\ will have to get a metal one for it -

It was an accident, I was trying to get in front of someone after driving my moms auto tragic Hyundai and saw the RPMS hit 7000 and clutched in and shifted into 3rd. But my EA is a great motor thanks to GD, when the motor is replaced, I hope it does just as well as this one has. -

Total noob question: Do I need to buy some kind of "synthetic oil filter" to last that long? Ive never re-used an oil filter, so Ive always assumed they go about 3K miles and mine get changed at 2500-2800 miles. -

Yupp. I noticed that last night when they brought it over. We're still in mystery about what EJ22 this has in it... but we are going to get NGKs and a new coil pack for it. Get this. It still has the plug wires from the EJ25D with the little handles on it... (edit, just noticed you already saw that) Itll take some work, but its not tear-down and rebuild kinda work, so hes pretty happy. It does pretty nice on mobbing grassy hills and stuff. When we come out Thursday, there is some stuff we want to point out and ask about -

The engine that I will be putting full synthetic in will be rebuilt before the oil goes in, so I should be golden -
