Speakers in 1986 GL Sedan
92_rugby_subie replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine are gonna be the front doors and on the back shelf (sedan) I think the rears are 6 or 6.5 but the fronts are the tough ones haha -
Speakers in 1986 GL Sedan
92_rugby_subie replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well id have to ditch those if I went with bigger speakers? Or another question... maybe bigger isnt always better... 2 10" subwoofers sound better than 2 12" subwoofers... so would 4" speakers of good (sony/pioneer/focal) brand be just as good as 6.5" ones? Im sure whatever I put in will be better than the stock ones I've got... but ill also be installing the 12" kicker comp ingot for a steal so I'm going for overall decent sound -
Speakers in 1986 GL Sedan

Well my windows are stuck up right now(they think theyre hot stuff) (better than stuck down) So I wonder if I should search for shallow speakers in 6.5" and still look for a Loyale speaker set up... -
Any experience with carpet kits?

http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/94539-ea81-brat-or-hatch-carpet/ heres his thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/87057-out-with-the-old-interior-in-with-the-new/ -
Ive done some searching and apparently in my GL sedan, I should have 4" door speakers in the front doors of my GL... (Ive also read 5-1/4" either way last time I had the door panels off they looked small... However I would like to upgrade them, but Im not the savy, make-my-own-mounting kind of person. There was a thread that said Loyale sedans used 6.5" speakers in the front doors, so if I took the mounting ring out of that and used it in my car I shouldnt run into any issues other than making sure I lined the speaker holes up correctly as they would only fit one way... Im in the process of ordering new speakers for Ned and the rear ones I plan to replace with the size thats already sitting in there, just higher quality/not blown speakers... but the fronts Id like to upgrade to 6 or 6.5" if I can rather than buying the stock size... So Id like to order all 4 at once and tackle it in a few hours... however getting the wrong size will trump that haha Heres one thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/52038-speaker-size/ Another: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/13969-speaker-size/ My problem is I havent seen a recent post with pictures that work that I could see what they are talking about... I know in this day and age speakers have to be getting replaced more because our cars are over 20 years old and Im sure the speakers just arent that great anymore...

I think itd be great to get a big old gen meet soon in a central location for the PNW... But I definitely think an older gen meet soon should occur
-
And here you and I are discussing a 4" body and 6" strut top lift... And then you flash that 8" lift at me... I like the look of that one... A lot!

My monday meets dont usually have Old Gens there other than Ned... But Id gladly take more old gens

I'm in Tigard OR. I have a Subaru meet going on every two weeks (every other Monday) that gets quite a few Subarus I made an old gen meet up about 6 months ago, maybe longer, was a great turn out in my opinion... 20+ cars

Thanks Vegablade! That is a sick sedan! Perfect look too!!

What size tires are those? I feel like I maybe in over my head thinking a 6" will clear 31s without bashing and cutting... Maybe 29s? I love that look though!!

I know there has to be more than the handful I can find on google in the tiny thumbnails... The links bring me here where the pictures have little red X's in the corner... I just want some inspiration for Ned, who decided that he wanted to go UP in the air and not low on the ground... or rather his new sister decided she was the low pavement queen, so he would be the offroad car.... who knows, its subaru speech. I was thinking the new plan would be: 4" or 6" lift --- since the steering has to be extended for either, might as well do the 6" and just go all out. 29" - 31" tires on 15" SOSFab wheels or re-drilled 6 lugs wheels, maybe the 6 lug conversion, but that would be way off. EJ22 motor Custom front bumper with fog lights -- OEM fog light switches (this is going to suck to find) Custom rear bumper with tail light guards Custom roof basket eventually with some more lights... (kinda like the 6 lug, it will happen if I decide I wanna switch it up a bit) Keeping the 5speed d/r 4x4 transmission or I may have a line on a D/R AWD transmission Does anyone have any pictures stored somewhere? Tire size may change as I dont want to cut up my fenders just yet... It will honestly be a mudpit, camping and mild trail car... I dont plan to go crazy and compete with butters (one of my fav lifted soobs)

Okay, so I just ordered the little o-rings, he asked if I needed big ones or little ones, I said they were decently small last I checked, so Im assuming those are the cam carrier ones... Ill have this list RE-Done with OEM part numbers on what I got from the dealership and try to keep it as clean as possible.

Cam seals -- 806738040 from Subaru OEM Oil pan gasket -- 11121AA001 from Subaru OEM (and RTV) Valve cover grommets -- 13271AA051 from Subaru (expensive, I only needed 1 to complete my set of them since I gave one to a friend of mine) Valve cover gasket kit -- X1321-AA999 Graphite OEM head gaskets -- 899235 Intake gaskets (part number soon, gonna get OEM like suggested) Exhaust gaskets Upper rad hose -- 45161GA490 from Subaru OEM Lower rad hose -- 45161GA500 from Subaru OEM New clutch will be ordered soon. Exedy 15008 Wish I knew of a good radiator shop that was open on weekends as I want my radiator worked on, and checked since I know the oil and coolant have been mixing... And I wanna make a weekend project out of this... Should have the engine assembled within the month Edit: Some part numbers added, will keep adding as I get more parts...

drive shaft replace 89 gl wagon manual
92_rugby_subie replied to Robbman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can I ask what your symptoms are for replacing the driveshaft? The reason is I get a lot of rotational clunking when I drive, however it goes away when I put it in 4LO or 4HI... Wondering if the driveshaft just needs replaced? -

The pulley is whats different apparently, like the belts will not align correctly? I heard I need to swap my alternator bracket over to the new motor anyway so Im gonna go with the 110mm pump... Aisin Engine Water Pump WPF-003 says "without A/C on fitment" and "110mm" on another site... so thats what Im gonna go with -

Nevermind, Gloyale answered it for me here... Finally found the thread by searching google... now to check part numbers for the correct shaft... For anyone searching... Non-AC cars need the 110mm pump.
