85 parts help, thanks!
92_rugby_subie replied to two85s's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oi California is a hard place to have carbureted Subarus... The Hitachi is a junk carburetor and the Weber wont ever pass emissions But yea, I dont know how California is with those stores, a reputable parts store is a great place to start for maintenance parts, or like I said, dealer OEM is great. I run the "Chevron" brand 10w-30 and Mobil/Bosch filters in Ned and he does great. I do have a Weber 32/36 (No emissions for me) on my car though. 1986 GL Sedan. -
anyone done the mini lifts? 1" or 2"?

You can ask them though.... See what they would charge and stuff. I know Michael does a 2 inch, I asked about a 2 and a 4 on my car, but like I said, Im gonna stay low... like lower than I am now lol -

This should be in the off-road section I believe I think you could talk to Michael Appel or Scott In Bellingham they do lift kits and are pretty popular and respected for their quality here on the board (Im sure there are other names that Im missing, but those are the two Ive spoken to about lifts when I was going to lift my Scoob) -

Well quality parts from Autozone or Napa or O'Reilly's or Baxters, etc will do. Dont use Fram oil filters on a Subaru -
Sweet that will help I actually just switched out the whole housings and I have completely cleaned the car part of the housing (from the previous sealant) and will start on the lights tomorrow. Have to get the 3M adhesive remover (heard great things bout it) and then pick up Butyl Rubber and get going on it... Just want to make sure I wont get any leaks Thanks for your reply Tractor Pole!

Yea I think my EA82 will take about 30 mins to pull, maybe 45 with draining fluids... it looks SOOO simple. Yea, I preordered MW3 and Im expecting to wait inline with like 100 kids 15 or younger that will have their mommies and daddies come get the game when it comes out at midnight... Which sucks... my first M game was driv3r when I turned 17...ya know, the actual age you have to be to play those games... Back to the issue at hand though... -

The last part is pretty mature... I think you coulda slipped an apology in there but its still better than going off the handle... If this motor is shot, consider selling it and getting a different one... No turbo. Go for a GL or a DL or even a Loyale, just avoid anything that says "Turbo" right now, If you can stomach it, a 85 or 86 (maybe 87) GL that has a Carburetor on it... Put a Weber on (if you can register outside of emissions) the blocks have lower compression than an SPFI motor and they are really REALLY simple engine bays... I can post a picture of my GL and show you... It takes some warming up in the morning, but my GL runs WAYYY better than my Loyale did. -

Can you not sell the Navajo and your Subaru and buy a better one? Seriously, try to sell the Subaru for 300, if its in good overall condition besides the motor, you could get that for it (depending on your area) and sell the Navajo for $??? however much its worth and buy a legacy, they are CHEAP sometimes, and the EJ22 is a bulletproof motor and has 20hp more than an EA82T -

And I can tell you as a young guy myself... Ive been in your shoes. I got lucky, and you might too, find a Subaru master in your area that needs help in exchange for some parts, or their shop to work on stuff, or even a car. GD gave me that oppurtunity and I can say that I knew maintenance on a car, now I could swap a motor, I cleaned up his parts shed and helped him swap motors and stuff, he worked with me to get my DL on the road but then offered me Ned a lot cheaper than I would find it on craigslist. The best part of this is I know that nothing is wrong with Ned that was "pre-existing" that I started driving and BAM need something new because GD bought him and repaired him so he could be driven, and that car is doing great! Needs a few things here and there, but thats wear and tear on a vehicle, no big deal. Some Subarus can handle abuse, depending on their history... If you put a motor in a car and you seal everything correctly, bolt it to torque specs, it can handle so much. I have put extreme use on Ned, including hard starts, quick shifts and hard braking, and I havent blown a seal... -
It doesnt seem to be sitting level? Is that the ground or the tires? Looks pretty awesome though

Which do you guys think would be better for sealing tail lights to the car? When I got these, the PO said they were sealed with a Factory gasket, and indeed when I pulled them, they had some sort of gasket on them that looked like it was molded exactly to the lights... I was told butyl rubber was best, it was the gasket they sealed windshields with, and windshields dont leak do they? So I decided I would go with Butyl rubber... Whats best? Whats easiest? Ive never used either so Im kinda nervous... I dont want the trunk leaking or the lightbulbs to burn out because water/moisture gets in them. I called Carr Subaru in Beaverton and the parts man told me such a thing as factory gaskets dont exist for a GL sedan... So I asked about a Loyale and he checked the books and said "Nope, dont exist for them either, come to think of it, I think they have never existed" Car is a 1986 GL Sedan. I will post pictures up sometime in the "what youve done" as they are only in there "Mocked up" right now, not sealed and bolted in.

I agree... I constantly want to show off the power of a FrankenMotor, but I still have an EA82. Just show like how it runs on start up (sound and stuff) then a 0-60 and then like a cruise to show power... I still have yet to ride in that beast... but I remember Rick telling someone "Put your seatbelt on..." "... trust me... Youll want it"
-
Get a 5 speed transmission and put some FXT gearing in it (4.44) and youll have a beast if you do a frankenmotor
-
I dont know the power levels of the EJ20T But a Frankenmotor Brat that was built by GD and Renob123 was VERY carefully driven in FWD on the streets and in 4WD on the track... GD once told me they were going to be doing the AWD swap because the EJ transmission could handle the power (it was driven lightly because if you clutch dumped the FM on the D/R tranny, youd rip every gear apart) and AWD would be very wise in the rain/snow because it currently wasnt the safest vehicle to be in the rain with (this was back in October/November when it was raining more, but who am I kidding, its July and still raining) Frankenmotor I believe is around 180hp... I know the D/R can handle the EJ22 because its only 135hp... but I think youd be pushing it with a WRX motor... I could be way off on my numbers... but I think Im pretty close.

OEM from the dealer is always nice to see on a Scoob but if you cant go that high (trust they are expensive) then RockAuto.com is usually the best for parts... -
Nope. Its just an app that I put on it and when I activated the app on my new phone it showed up as being like 9 feet from me and I found out it works... So might as well put it in my car so that my car doesnt disappear. Although he has gained Garage rights though because Ive seen some jimmy marks near the gas tank, and that crap is too expensive to be letting people have. Still havent seen that plate... Ive had my eyes out, will call you on the spot if I see it (and follow it as well)
