  1. And no, no damage is done to the engine if a timing belt breaks.
  2. SOOO many people put Loyales and stuff as AWD, they arent all wheel drive. They are 4WD push button. But because the 4WD logo looks like it says AWD, thats what they put. I have NEVER seen an AWD Loyale, I plan to make my GL an AWD eventually, with a frankenmotor and AWD swap, but as for that one, I doubt its AWD, if it was, it was swapped and why sell it for so little if it was swapped? Theres been a few nice ones up in Seattle craigslist but Im reading that theyre carbed.
  3. I might be game Ill see a event thread right? I might go if other stock rigs are going, so I dont look funny haha
  4. Youve got some of the best names on this forum telling you what to do with this project.... I would take a listen. This isnt your typical forum, there are more knowledgeable people on this board than there usually is. I would start with a lift... get a lift and some tires to help you crawl around, Ive seen stock EA82s lifted and with bigger tires do just fine offroad. Asking for help is fine, but listen to the help you are given. Several reputable names have been thrown out to give you the right information for your project, and like Heartless said, its not instant gratification, unless you have a couple grand burning a hole in your pocket to just dump on the car right now.
  5. GL-10s have rear discs if I recall... SOME regular GLs might have them as a luxury option, but mine doesnt. You can do the conversion, from what I remember its a bolt in process. Ill do it someday, but Ill do a 5 lug at the same time Any luck? I havent seen any good ones, saw an 86 GL for 1400 with 150k but its a sedan.
  6. Well what parts are you confused on? Ive never done the EJ22 swap, heres a link to Spencers (OBK25XT) wagon, its pretty badass, I would ask him about some of the swap stuff, but I can help you out too.

    Heres the link: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=122512

Just make sure you ask him via PM or visitor message. (looks like you can Private Message now)

  7. Is this what your after? it says the napa part number... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=104840&highlight=swap+napa
  8. No you will get an adapter plate for the EJ engine to bolt to your EA transmission... I believe that adapter comes from SJR (Scott In Bellingham)

Youll keep your transmission and driveshaft stuff. Youll need other subaru parts, like I believe an XT6 flywheel or something like that... should be in the swap info that I sent ya to read :)

  9. I want a tear drop for my car Get rear discs... youll want/need the extra stopping power
  10. Here you go... Start reading and enjoy! http://www.numbchuxconversions.com/Files/EA2EJ.pdf
  11. Buy yourself a legacy parts car... (maybe even an EJ22 engine vehicle?) so you can take the stuff out from the same car when you need it. Search for info on the swap and learn it well Lifts can come from Mike in Wilsonville OR (username: Michael Appel) or from SJR in Bellingham WA (username: Scott In Bellingham) One person to talk to, that I would recommend is Spencer, username OBK25XT. He has a Loyale wagon with an EJ22, built to the teeth... This car is a beast offroad, might ask for some info on his car, it is for sale, so theres some info in his for sale posting, but you could build this out of your loyale, and your 4 runner buddies will be jealous... Welcome aboard, nice Loyale! Looks like its a great little ride!
  12. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83596&highlight=towing+capacity this might help.
  13. Theres a 1981 Hatch here in Portland for 1200 or best offer... Rust free, 107k original miles etc. Looks quite clean, so its probably safe to say 2000 isnt a bad price if its in really good condition.. Check for rust, body dents, etc. Look under them too, I remember out at GDs, an OBS had some under body damage from offroading that nobody saw when it was purchased
  14. Wheres that? I wanna go Ill be stock... so Ill park and chase after you guys on my bike But I wanna see the lifted rigs and have fun too
  15. zombie thread But I must say those wheels are SICK! I think if I could get my hands on a set of them, Id keep my 4 lug... But since its that spendy, ill go with a 5 lug and EJ AWD swap
  16. Itd be a great decision, Ive loved both my scoobs with Webers on them but I agree in finding a problem before upgrading
  17. Ive never driven a stock EA81... Only an EA71 with a Hitachi carb... When I swapped to an EA81 and put a Weber 32/36 DGEV on it... I was shocked at how much get up and go it had.. I think youll mostly find that getting a Weber will be your best bet as tuning those Hitachis is a lot of work for little results.
  18. Im jealous. Better be lots of pics to make me even more jealous... If you guys do another one, and Ned isnt injured, Ill take him along with ya guys...
  19. the one on the oregon coast should still be available, Im thinking hes interested in it... Though we chatted for a bit (he knows my dad, so small world huh) and he really likes TheLoyale's SafariWagon (his Loyale) so if he doesnt snatch the oregon coast one up, he will probably look for a red one. EDIT: Refreshed the ad, and it was deleted bummer. Looked like a great scoob, but I will keep looking The first one was pretty sweet though. Id take it, but I already have a carbed model so Id just throw a Weber on it, lift it and have an offroad rig
  20. True more problems, repairs, tickets, etc lol. And true again, it will come by at the right time. I kept getting crappy Subarus for too much money, and GD was helping me through them, but eventually said to just buy Ned, my current car, because he had no problems.
  21. If Ned wasnt injured (tie-rods and wheel bearings) I would have put more effort into it, but it would have been tie-rods, wheel bearings, 2 front tires, alignment, gas + food etc I will try for next year though I NEED more Subaru meets lol.
