Tein custom built coilovers for the gl
suberdave replied to scobbyru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have done Tein coilovers on both my GL's. just buy coilovers for a 05-09 then mod them a bit. if you buy top hats for a GC impreza they will bolt right up too. Here are some pictures from like 2007. www.suberdave.com -
1991 FWD Loyale: Engine Swap questions
suberdave replied to rodriguezmarc718's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
step one: put your Subaru up for sale. it wont be worth much because it has a blown engine. step two: take the few $$ you get from the sale, go buy a GEO or Fiesta. but really, i have done many subaru swaps, however they have all been with newer subaru engines. for what i would cost you to put a Fiesta engine in your subaru, you could go out and buy a Fiesta ST. -

Took the Subercoupe to the track today...
suberdave replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sorry don't have much time for a build thread. i work 2 full time jobs and have a wife and now 3 kids at home. the time that i have is minimal, so i spend it working not posting. when i get to working i don't think to stop and take many pictures. i have a few pictures during the work but not many. the link that Loyale 2.7 Turbo posted is as close as it gets. sorry -
Well i took the Subercoupe to the drag strip today. All in all things went well. first run was nothing but wheel spin and smoke... second i went to easy, third and forth runs went pretty well. Best run if the day was 13.9 @ 100mph. next time ill have some drag radials on her, and well either brake some stuff or get some tire to stick and go. Here are some Pics and a short video...

here is an article that has some good info about the RX. https://www.dropbox.com/s/leqtknsah8zd1pa/RX%20article.JPG.

The car you have pictured is not an RX. it is a GL coupe. The RX's did not come out till 1987.5 and were all White or Black. On all RX's the 6th, 7th and 8th digits in the VIN are 56B, if those are not the digits, then it is not a RX (Dr.RX) Although its not an RX Subaru did not make as many as them as they did sedans or wagons. I once had one just like it that i did an Eary WRX EJ20G swap on. and currently have another one that i did a mid-engine EG33 swap on.

you need to buy a hevy duty flasher relay. they are electric and have a timer for the flasher, and do not work on electrical resistance. i did this in my GL when i put led bulbs in it. has worked just fine for the last 4-5 years -=Suberdave=-

drill a hole in the bottom of the cup, in the inside as if you were going to drill into the stub shaft that comes out of the trans. then use a can of PB with a straw and spray some in the hole so it can get right on the shaft. -=Suberdave=-
-
i dont. each hole was just pushed out about 3/8". if i were to do it over i would just get a set of WRX top hats, and then they would be bolt in... -=Suberdave=- http://www.suberdave.com
-
this is what the tophats look like on my car. 05+ Legacy Coilovers on 1988 GL-10 -=Suberdave=- http://www.suberdave.com
-
yeah they are R180 backing plates, like i said. but the swap is the same. the hole is just a bit larger. -=Suberdave=-
-
here are some pictures from when i put the Brembo rear brakes on my wagon. its the same for Legacy or WRX rear brakes. http://wordpress.suberdave.com/?page_id=59 -=Suberdave=-
-
really you think its easier to swap the carrier, than it is to pull the inner joints off of a few axles... bring me 2 EA rear axles and $25 and ill send you home with 2 bolt in axles... i have many sets of WRX inner joints in my shop. -=Suberdave=-
-
if you get the correct rear shafts from a GL. i believe they are 7/8" diameter. with 22 splines, the inner cup from a WRX axle will fit onto the GL shaft, and will fit right into your car... -=Suberdave=-

suberdave replied to suberdave's topic in Members Rides
No i haven't. didn't see any reason to blow any money on the dyno, when i would just have to do it again after the new pulley. -=Suberdave=- -

suberdave replied to suberdave's topic in Members Rides
nope. i talked to some VW guys that put the EG into buses, they said they never use an extra pump. the hottest it has gotten is 201*F and that was in stop and go traffic on a 85*F day. normally runs right at 194*F. -=Suberdave=-
