  1. Took your advice and have joined NASICO. Found a guy who converted to headers that may sell me what I need. Considering the only upgrade is the exhaust system and the tune concerns it brings I am tempted to just go back to stock and be happy. Been driving Subarus' for 30 years never upgraded from stock figured what the heck try something new and old school thinking it has to help. Thanks for the info will do more research. Understand the concerns of the wrap on the headers, would look really good, why are so many on the Impreza site changing to them? Not daily drivers? Will say my cars do not leak oil, no brag just fact. Even my old british ones if it starts leaking I'm pulling it. thanks again
  2. The Baja came with the down pipe, back already installed. Looking at a little performance and fuel saving. I will be wrapping the headers before I install them. Never thought about retuning. I am mostly old school understand a supercharger over a turbo charger. I was looking at the cost considering I can get the headers and wrap for less then the shields. Would like to find a used set of shields but not having a lot of luck. Seems the left side is fairly easy to find but the right side not so much and I figure my rt side shields are missing due to the mounting bolts being broken off in the holes.
  3. Already have replaced the down pipe and rest of system. Why would you pass on the headers?
  4. I'm rebuilding the EJ255 engine in my newly acquired 05 Baja turbo and need header heat shields. After pricing them I started thinking about aftermarket headers. I see the Impreza header aftermarket business is booming but nothing for anything else. The OEM parts for the Baja and Impreza turbo headers are the same. Anyone try a set for the Impreza on a different sub?
  5. If you have a clamp on amp meter you can check the starting draw or you can remove the starter and truck down to your local advance or AutoZone and they will check it for you. You will need to be there if it is bad for a replacement and the core charge will be taken care of as it will be with you.
  6. Looks like you have Peugeot wheels. had them on a BRAT.
  7. Are you sure it is firing or maybe just a compression kick? If it is firing then you know you have compression and spark. Sounds like fuel. Have you changed the filters? Can you see/smell the fuel in the spfi throat? Do you have enough fuel pressure? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn on the key? Just a start, these engines are not rocket science.
  8. Jack up the front of your car and pull and push at the top and bottom of your tires. If the bearings are bad they will move in and out. Side to side could be something else so top and bottom. Good luck
  9. if you have to replace your compressor and receiver then I would flush the condersor and evap coils. there is a cleaning compound and pressurize tank to do this. The oils are not compatiable. If you do not need to replace anything then go with the R-12 whatever. The replacement r-12 and oil is getting hard to find. Keep in mind that the ac system is a closed system and if you are low on r-12 you have a leak someplace and will end up doing it all over again and the r-12 is only getting more expensive.
  10. I have the mounting plates and bulb holders but not the grille parts. PM me if interested.
  11. Are the mounts and the buckets the same as a 86 BRAT?
  12. I was wondering if I could ask a few more questions on the auto trans? I have the ea81 in my 85 brat, any idea what I would run into? Is it part time 4wd or awd?

  13. Tried the spinning and counting and got 1.9-2.0 count on the ratio. Turned the input yoke locking one output spline, tried counting the yoke by turning the output spline ,with one locked down. 1.9-2.0 to 1. never read about ratio's like that. What did I do wrong?
  14. Thank you for the information. That's an easy to remember formula.
  15. Subaru actually makes a tool that locks up the flywheel and sits in the timing hole of the bellhousing. Mine cost 75, yes I know expensive, but more than pays for itself over time.
  16. I have an LSD and the tag is missing. How would I figure out the gear ratio without opening it up? Is that the only option I have? Thanks
  17. I've read where someone outlines swapping the gears from one to another. I have a 3.9 in great shape but need to replace a 3.7. The 3.7 is out of a 85 brat and the 3.9 is out of a 86 brat. Any direction would help. Thanks
  18. OK I understand we can cheat the system, it is electrical. The question I had is where does it mount. I ask this because I can not find it. This is important because what if it's a notice to service the engine. I see you have a 85 BRAT. I also and my EGR alarm is driving me crazy. I have no O2 sensor or ECU and the EGR is working. I contacted a subaru master in NC and he told me that subaru wired the cars up to get people to take them to repair shops. Is there a reset button on the loyales ECU? I'll be looking at mine. If you have a ECU in your BRAT you most likely will not be able to help my BRAT problem. He said the BRAT will have 3 wires grouped above the fuse housing. Unplug one and plug in the other resits the EGR or so I'm told. I'm still looking.
  19. I have a 92 loyale with 4wd. My check engine lite just came on with a 55 code,EGR temp sensor or circuit. Can anyone tell me where it is? I've located the two temp sensors on the intake. Neither one is bad. Egr works when I rev it up. Help. Thanks
  20. Tires. You know I had not thought about them. I have the same size but two different manuf. This gives me two different profiles. That I can understand. I'll change to the same manuf on all 4 and see what that does. Thanks, I appreciate the help.
  21. You guys are harsh. Look it I've been driving 4wd and awd awhile . The subs were able to settle out a water convered hwy which is what we see down here. By the way even the awd/4wd rigs do not like dry road. My 84 gl 4sp dr would allow me to turn a corner in 4wd without binding up in hi range. The hill was ahill, no road. Drove a 84 brat that as soon as I shifted in 4wd going straight it bound up and it was binding in the front, tried to pull the sterring wheel out of my hand to the drivers side. With trees and such its had to get off road if I can only go straight. What could cause the binding going straight?
  22. I have a 92 loyale ,that I bought new in Portland,Oregon. I know how this wagon has been maintained. It's a 5 sp 4WD that has developed a problem while turning a corner in 4WD. It binds up. If it's in 2Wd no problem exists. I can be on a hill and as long as the wheels are straight no problem but turn the wheel it stops. Take it out of 4WD and no problem. Shifting into 4WD on the fly is smoth, but shifting out you hear and feel it if it is in gear, in neutral it shifts out easily. I do not see brakes, as it needs to be in 4WD for the problem to exist. I feel a replacement trans may correct this, but I'm looking for some input. Can anyone help me?
