I recently replaced both fronts and got Timken bearings and seals from Autozone. Bearings are $20 each and I think seals were $6. Had them the next day and could return unused parts for credit. D

Where do the quarter go on the suction value tubes? Which end? Got a picture? Thanks, D

hesitant power loss studder with a bit of rattle?

JWS, What are you listening for when you smack the cat? I read also about cleaning one out. Is it a case where you can ream it out and get some more time out of a clogged cat? Thanks, D -

Kartier, Were you able to find a cure? I have a similar issue and gas milage sucks as well. What is the best way to deal with the carbon? I hace heard some say SeaFoam straight thru the carb will clean it out. Thanks, D -
My 84 Brat did this religiosly until I unhooked the secondary on the Hitachi. I could get it to stick if I rompped on the gas for acceleration and get it to unstick if I slowwed the car down and really loaded up the enginer in high gear. I tried a few things but went ahead and performed the mod where you attach the linkage form the primary with the secondary and disconnect the vacuum actuator. There are a few reference to this mod in this forum. Good luck! Post what you find out please. D

Rebuilt Hitachi has flat spot.

Ferox, Lets hear some more on removing the vac hoses. Do you have the Hitachi carb? Got pics of the new set up? What do I need to plug/ adjust on the carb? Any info here would be great. I have an E81 brat that runs like crap, Seems to rich but not sure. Any help would be appreci8ated. Thanks, D -
I have an 84 Brat by the registration. By the research here I think it is the original motor. EA81 stamped on the block SN- 451042 01/84 on the door jamb plaque D

Thanks for the responses. I think I will leave it out. No need for a schematic. I would have posted pics in the first place but I am not allowed to post attachments and I don't use an on-line photo service. what do I need to do to get around this? Merry Christmas. D

Well duh to me on many fronts. I have an 84 Brat. Crusie control sounds likely. I will check the manual tonight and see if I can confirm. Didn't work anyway. Vehical is lighter now without it. Sorry for the brian fart. D

There is a canister looking thing in the left rear of the engine bay. It is hooked to the throttle and has some vacuum lines and wires coming to it. Is this the deceleration air controller? Does it need to stay? Mine is obviously not in working order so I was thinking of yanking it. Thanks, D

OK, runs better but the secondary still sticks at higher RPM and speed until you romp on the brakes. So weird. I will probably run the mod this weekend to tie the primary and secondary together. Sounds like the Weber carb might be a better long term option. Where is a good place to source a Weber carb for my 84 Brat? D

I poked the hole in the diaphragm. First blush is that it is running much better. Runs smoother when you rev up and did not experience the acceleration but that is more intermittent. I will drive it a few days and see how this goes. Thanks again for the tips. D

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will try the hole in the diaphram first(always thought that was a bad thing:lol:). If that doesn't cure it I will go for the mod. I appreciate the advice. Thanks, D

You are the man if you did that in a dark parking lot at night, wow. I tried a few things with no luck of un-sticking the mechanism. Then, I unhooked the diaphram and that seems to have elininated the sticking. Now acceleration suffers. Did your acceleration drop by putting a hole in the diaphram? Thanks, D
