  1. Voltage looks low to me on the gauge but reads 13.98 at the battery.
  2. I'll try and find a Hitachi. What is the fuel pump timer? what do I remove to get to those screens?
  3. Ok so I've finally made it home for alittle bit and all the symptoms seem to have returned. The tach is jumping all over the place again and the car wont drive down the road but it will idle in the driveway all day. The disty I installed was used so I can't completely eliminate that as a possibility but I have tried 2 known good fuel pumps so that is definately out of the equation. I'm lost with this thing I'm about to push it into the Ocean! Please HELP!
  4. Well my squadron is sending my away for a few months so I won't be able to tinker on the BRAT for a while. I'll update the status as soon as I return. Thanks to everyone for all the help. I know it's frustrating to try and follow a thread when the guy who posted for help disapears for weeks on end.
  5. Ok so I swapped the distributor with the other type and the tach jump and noise seems to have disappeared for now. The car was still missing and dying under load so I temp installed an aftermarket fuel pump. So far, she seems to be running great. The old fuel pump must have been weak and conveniently failed the same time as the distributor. I have the fuel pump wired to a switch right now so I still haven't checked to see if the "no power to fuel pump" problem is resolved with the new disty.
  6. Your best bet would be to go to autozone and buy a pair of toggle switches and a push button.
  7. Ya, I have plans for a Weber in the near future but I want to eliminate one problem at a time.
  8. Well I've finally got a chance to begin taking her apart. I started to remove the distributor and noticed there are a few options when it comes to purchasing a new one. I've attached a picture. Is this the right one for my 86 BRAT? I'm assuming it's not the original judging by the splice. Ive also attached a picture of a damaged wire on the carb. Could this contribute to my fuel pump issue? Thanks!
  9. Sorry for the delay guys. My squadron has had me out of town for the past couple months. I haven't had much time to tinker with it since I've been back but I'm leaning toward a bad distributor since I can actually hear some kind of vibration when my tach starts jumping. I just hate spending the money on parts with out knowing for sure if thats the problem. It's amazing how well she runs just sitting at idle in the driveway!
  10. I'll check it out thanks! Picked up some distributors this weekend. not sure if they're any good. We'll see
  11. Heading to pickup a couple parts this weekend. Hopefully I can find a distributor. I'll keep you updated!
  12. What exactly is this MSD box and what does it replace?
  13. Replaced fuel filters yesterday. No improvement . It has to be an ignition issue. I can only drive it about a block and then it misses a couple times and dies then wont start for a minute or so. There is still fuel in the filter when I pop the hood. Someone mentioned something about an ignition module. Is there any way I can upgrade the whole ignition system?
  14. That picture is exactly what I'm aiming for! If i cant find them in white lettering then I don't know what I'll do
  15. Get some white spokes with cooper cobra gt's. Throw on some original center caps and some chrome beauty rings. That my plans for one of my brats. The little bit of chrome would really compliment those bumper. Nice looking ride by the way!
  16. oh ya its a different ball game with a mobile device! I never post from my phone because it types every other word in CAP's. I have no idea why lol
  17. A lot of people use photo bucket but I just copy and paste into the message box.
  18. Fuel pump control units are available for gen 2 brats (the blue box) at Skagit SUBARU. They quoted me 170 bucks for one. You might try them out, they may be able to ship. I know my 82 has a black one and it has a different number of pins. I've been told that one is the same as the Gen 1's not sure though and I've never stock checked that one. Good luck getting one used. I'm sure theyre are a million of them lying around in parts cars but I've had an ad in the wanted section of the forum for quite a while with no luck yet.
  19. I would bypass it but this particular BRAT needs to stay as factory as possible. I've got three of the damn things but this ones my "sunday driver" Wires looked good but I need to find a good schematic so I can read them out. The distributor didn't feel sloppy to me but i can hear the thing and feel a vibration when it acts up and the tach jumps around. it does it intermittently and it stops as suddenly as it begins. Ordered fuel filters. I'm thinking that might be part of the problem. I'm not sure where to begin looking for a replacement disty. Any recommendations?
  20. The pump is not getting power. I have it wired direct and she runs like a champ until I go up a hill or put any kind of load on it. Then it just starts missing, sputters and dies. It will start back up and idle though. I have a blaster 2 coil sitting around that I'm going to swap out when I get home. We'll see what that does.
