  1. awesome that clears things up! I've searched and a couple posts mention a fuel pump relay under the passenger seat.
  2. are you refering to the fuel pump control unit? or is there a relay under there too?
  3. I'll check the wires. Is the the relay behind the fuse box or are you referring to the blue box. I've searched posts and seen GD refer to it as the fuel pump control unit? Thanks!
  4. Is this on an EA81 car? if so where where was your fuel pump relay located?
  5. I have an 86 BRAT and I can not get power to my fuel pump. A couple of months ago I started getting an intermittent engine noise and my tach would jump around like crazy. I figured my distributor must have problems. Now I cant get power to my fuel pump. I read out the wires to the pump and I have a solid ground and also have continuity all the way back to the fuel pump control unit on the power wire so it can't be a broken wire. When I turn the key on I can feel the fuel pump relay under the passenger seat energize so I assume that it works. There is also another relay under the seat that looks exactly the same so I'm not sure which is which. I have read that the fuel pump control unit needs a signal from the coil? ...so could a distributor problem also be causing my fuel pump power problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  6. I think I am going to try and find a vented cap just to be safe. Then I could probably get away with capping off the line in the engine compartment. This way if it ever does vent, it wouldn't be right by the power plant.
  7. What keeps liquid fuel from pouring into the charcoal canister when the systems hooked up normally? If i filled up on a HOT day the fuel would already be expanded. Whats the best way to let a tank vent without a canister and without danger of overflow? Maybe since I don't "top off" I just stop filling when it clicks, there is enough room for expansion.
  8. Been driving it that way for 10 years with no problems. it would have to expand a ridiculous amount to push liquid fuel clear out of the line in the engine compartment.
  9. I deleted mine when i did my Weber conversion only because I like to keep it as clean and simple as possible under my hood so I removed all non-mission essential equipment. Since my vehicles are licensed in Idaho i don't worry much about emissions.
  10. Charcoal canister. Has something to do with emissions. Junked all mine and deleted emissions.
  11. Id love to go. my 82 BRAT doesnt have many off road modifications so im not sure it would make it.
  12. Sounds fun. id love to get a peek at that GL of yours! I'm hoping to make it that way sometime for hunting season. too bad it wasnt this weekend.
  13. ok so i tightened my clutch cable up and she drove like a champ for a couple days. then i pulled into taco bell drive through and SNAP! my foot went all the way to the floor. once i removed the broken cable i could tell it had been hanging by a thread. bought a new one from subaru for 30 bucks. adjusted to my likeing and she works like a champ. Also, my hilllholder works now!
  14. me too. my 86 brat is acting like a real jerk lately when trying to shift. even more so in 1st and reverse
  15. b12 chem tool works awesome but hold your breath its potent. it also drys fast but i mix it in with gunk and scrub and it works well. i keep a can ready in my garage for bees and spiders too. its an instant killer. you can find it at your friendly neighborhood autozone
  16. found a green clip stuffed under the dash, stuck a dummy wire in and connected the two prongs and ......ding ding ding. thanks alot for the help! now i just need to get a new ignition switch and figure out how to install the darn thing. it doesnt look like it comes off easy. will i still be able to use my factory key?
  17. on my 86 BRAT its my license/tail fuse (15AMP) id swap that first
  18. i also found this picture which is supposed to be my ignition. does it look about right? and if so where might that clip run into? http://www.partstrain.com/store/includes_v4/secure/popup.php?type=more&image=L2ltYWdlcy9wcm9kdWN0X2ltYWdlcy9pbWFnZXMvV09STERQQUMvVzAxMzMxNjEyODk4LkpQRw==&title=T0VRIElnbml0aW9uIExvY2sgQXNzZW1ibHk=&text=
  19. i cant seem to find any wires around the ignition that dont have a home. i may need to make a trip to idaho to look at my parts car. of course my other BRAT is push button so i cant look at it:mad: any idea where those wires should come from and/or what color?
  20. ok i looked at the ignition and all the wiring seems ok but there is a spot that looks like the metal has been cut away and peeled back? can anyone explain this? im not pointing to it in the pictures. its over to the right http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc438/timbertiger44/IMG_20110327_083219.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc438/timbertiger44/IMG_20110327_083212.jpg
