86 BRAT Fuel pump/Disty issue?
TIMBERTIGER replied to TIMBERTIGER's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll check the wires. Is the the relay behind the fuse box or are you referring to the blue box. I've searched posts and seen GD refer to it as the fuel pump control unit? Thanks! -

86 BRAT Fuel pump/Disty issue?
TIMBERTIGER replied to TIMBERTIGER's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
I have an 86 BRAT and I can not get power to my fuel pump. A couple of months ago I started getting an intermittent engine noise and my tach would jump around like crazy. I figured my distributor must have problems. Now I cant get power to my fuel pump. I read out the wires to the pump and I have a solid ground and also have continuity all the way back to the fuel pump control unit on the power wire so it can't be a broken wire. When I turn the key on I can feel the fuel pump relay under the passenger seat energize so I assume that it works. There is also another relay under the seat that looks exactly the same so I'm not sure which is which. I have read that the fuel pump control unit needs a signal from the coil? ...so could a distributor problem also be causing my fuel pump power problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is this & what does it do?
TIMBERTIGER replied to Bratmobile's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think I am going to try and find a vented cap just to be safe. Then I could probably get away with capping off the line in the engine compartment. This way if it ever does vent, it wouldn't be right by the power plant. -

What keeps liquid fuel from pouring into the charcoal canister when the systems hooked up normally? If i filled up on a HOT day the fuel would already be expanded. Whats the best way to let a tank vent without a canister and without danger of overflow? Maybe since I don't "top off" I just stop filling when it clicks, there is enough room for expansion. -

Been driving it that way for 10 years with no problems. it would have to expand a ridiculous amount to push liquid fuel clear out of the line in the engine compartment. -

I deleted mine when i did my Weber conversion only because I like to keep it as clean and simple as possible under my hood so I removed all non-mission essential equipment. Since my vehicles are licensed in Idaho i don't worry much about emissions. -

Charcoal canister. Has something to do with emissions. Junked all mine and deleted emissions. -
