  1. So, semi-noob question here, What kind of differentials does my 91-ish loyale have? I've been getting some argument from my friends lately, but mine seems to slip in the snow sometimes (deep, loose snow) and only spin one or two wheels. So Open? LSD? Next question, what dif mods are out there? Has anyone done an airlocker type mod? are there any kits out there to convert to an LSD (assuming stock is open)? Thanks, Tom
  2. Hello everyone! So, I'm swapping a working ea-82 into my loyale - no, I don't want to get into an EJ swap right now, thanks - and after I do I'm going to have one lying around that needs a rebuild. Thing is, guys at Napa and other local machine shops say they cant bore the block because it takes a special machine or fitting or something because the pistons are sideways. Which seems like crap to me, but that's why I'm not a machinist. So far I've called a bunch of places and gotten the same thing everywhere. What's the deal? Where can I get this done (some have suggested a machine shop that works on motorcycle engines)? Should I expect it to cost more than an inline or "v" engine? Are there any special things to look out for boring an ea-82? Thanks!
  3. Hey, thanks for taking the time to read my question.... NUTSHELL: I've got two subaru loyales, one with a beat up body but ok engine, one with a blown engine but straight body. How hard would swapping the good engine into the good car be? DETAILS: -The engine info stickers show them to be the same (1.8L tbi) and they look the same, and the two cars are same make, model, and within 2 years of each other in manufacture. -I am a pretty good shade-tree mechanic. Last summer I stripped my 4runner's engine totally down for new gaskets and timing chain. When I put it back together it ran on the first try. I've never cracked a block, but from the book this looks pretty simple: undo the fuel and air lines, electrical, and exhaust, then unbolt the engine from the tranny and hoist it out. Reverse process for the other engine. SPECIFIC QUESTIONS: How long should I budget for this? Is there anything I should look out for, or any reason I shouldn't try it? Is there any possibility the good engine might not swap in, even though it looks the same and has the same underhood sticker/model#?
  4. $1100 bought me a stock '90 loyale with a rebuilt engine (50,000 mi on it), 174k on the chassis, new alt, bat, newish tires. Some rust, one dent on outside. Good accell, brakes, tight tranny, new clutch, tight 4wd and blows no smoke. Problems Oil pressure seems to fluctuate a lot Oil pump bad) Recent louder-than-most ticking noise coming from right head (general area)
