  1. Likes Fuel mileage, I get a constant 33mpg city, 38+mpg highway* Easy to work on when I have to, which brings me to my next point... Hands down the most reliable vehicle I've owned. That sound, with the UEL header Love the parts interchangeability between the new gens - I've got a little Legacy, WRX, Forester, Outback, and newer generation Impreza in mine Dislikes Slight lack of power "only" FWD *My '93 Impreza has its original EJ18 with 230k, coupled with a '92 Legacy FWD 5MT (with 293k on it), which everything I've found online says is a 3.70.
  2. If it is the OEM security system it will also have keyless entry as the keyless module is also the security module. security was a upgrade consisting of a siren, shock sensor, starter interrupt, and valet button/LED. As long as everything is still intact/plugged in, whatnot, you will just need to locate the momentary switch at the end of the two very thin brown wires. Depress this switch while turning the key to the ON position. Locks will cycle three times. Keep the switch depressed while pressing lock on the remote twice, and locks will cycle to indicate programming was successful. The remote is indeed the GOH-M24. I just installed this very system into my 93 Impreza, so everything is still fresh in my mind.
  3. Picked up a 2013 Impreza shift knob, and I had a leather shift boot made. Finally got the boot installed yesterday.
  4. I got a ride up to one of the u pull yards yesterday, and came back with this: FWD manual from a '93 Legacy with only 280,000 on it. It was the only FWD manual EJ transmission in the yard, so I'll use it to get things up and running with the swap, and probably until it decides it's had enough or I find a lower mileage one. Also went looking for a keyless entry module and harness, and found this: Amongst that rat's nest is also the security upgrade and all associated parts. I already have a driver's door lock actuator, just needed to hit ebay for a remote. And lastly I'll include a rear picture with the $140 ebay catback that just came in today and my work-in-progress taillights, which will be going when I can grab a set of JDM tails
  5. Which headlights does your car have? If I'm not mistaken, all Outbacks of that generation should have the dual bulb headlights. On every Legacy GT/Outback I've seen with these, the low beams did stay on when the highs come on. I've seen a few where one low beam was burnt out, and that side looked kinda funny with just the high beam bulb lit compared to the other side with both.
  6. Thanks. I've still got the original EJ18 in there for now. It runs great just want some more power. I was actually surprised by my emissions test last year. The car had sat for 3 years prior and everything was well below the max levels. Not bad for having the original cats yet.
  7. I've got a 1993 Impreza L FWD I picked up from my ex-wife who had it for 8 years at that point, all work during that time was done by me, so I knew the car in and out. This is how she looked when I picked her up, after I put on the 05 WRX wheels I got from a friend for free. (I also ditched that abomination on the trunk soon after this picture) Here she is after my cheapass quick roller paint job that I never did get a chance to sand smooth And finally, here she is as she sits today She is pretty much stock drivetrain wise for now, but I have plans of building a frankenmotor, and as soon as I can find a transmission, a FWD 5 speed swap. What she does have already: 2005 Baja front seats, cloth and vinyl type 2001 RS sedan rear seat back, and RS coupe rear seat bottom 2004 Forester steering wheel and airbag 2001 Forester 6CD changer, lights up red All interior lighting changed to red Full front end converted to 99-01 RS Homemade clear corners, insides blacked out Blacked out headlight trim Hella 500FF driving lights (These are eventually being replaced by fog pattern 500's or stock RS foglights) Black front turn signals 97-01 Impreza mirrors Mirrors and door handles paint matched Chrome window trim replaced with 95-01 black trim 2005 WRX wheels, painted graphite Factory cruise control added 1995 Legacy map lights added Antenna hole on A pillar delete Trunk lock hole delete All door and fender trim deleted Factory L/RS sedan spoiler added Fiberglass rear bumper cover, not entirely sure what brand. It reminds me of the 00-04 Legacy rear bumper cover 1998 Civic side skirts (only until I get a set of RS skirts) 2005 Forester front brakes No name intake tube and cone filter ebay header, new Forester cat pipe, and no name catback. Eibach Prokit lowering springs on RS front struts, FWD rear struts. Modified chrome Altezza style lights, chrome painted to match wheels, added second brake lights to each side. Quarter panel rust delete and replacement section of radiator support welded in. Seems when you hit 5 deer over the years, things tend to not line up anymore And my favorite part of all, we repainted her in the proper Rally Blue, 74F this past May. Needs more clear, but I love it anyway. After 20 years and 215,000 miles, the only things to go wrong were a single brake caliper years ago, and the original starter earlier this year.
  8. I had the blue Impreza there saturday. Ended up getting there much later than planned and couldn't stay as long as I had hoped, I only had a chance to see maybe half of everything. Next year I'll have to do Friday and Saturday
  9. I'll be bringing my 93 Impreza and a couple friends, including my body and paint guy. Finishing up the ole girl now and painting tomorrow evening
  10. Thanks for the responses, but it appears I'm an idiot. No seriously, just got a call from my friend, and she had the wheel off, and there stones lodged in there. She removed them and all is good with the car. Last time I do work on a car when I am that tired to begin with, I should have checked for that at the time.
  11. I am absolutely certain that this wasn't present before the axle swap, as it is quite noticeable. It sounds and feels normal until it gets up to about 5mph and above. It definately sounds like something is rubbing, yet the steering wheel "wobbles" a little at the same time, wasn't quite sure how to describe it. I bent back the dust shield thinking it was causing it, and it is definately not touching anything. Lug nuts were definately still tight, I've had loose lug nuts before, so I know what that's like. It is an aftermarket axle, but the one I took out was also aftermarket, and never gave any problems. I know OEM is best here, but she didn't want to spend too much on it. I did torque the nut with the weight of the car on the tire. I thought I did it this way last time, but I could very well be wrong there. That's first on my list of what to try when I head over to the car, torquing it down with the hub in the air yet
  12. Yesterday I replaced the right front axle on a friend's 04 Legacy. Immediately afterward, the car has a vibration coming from that corner while rolling, once every tire rotation, enough to give the steering wheel a shimmy. It almost sounds more like something metal is rubbing than vibration, but I checked everything multiple times and cannot see where anything is making contact that shouldn't be. I've replaced axles before, even on this very car and never had this or any other issue. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I've got a torn inner boot on the right front axle of the 04 Legacy, so I'm going to replace the axle. I have access to a '93 FWD auto Impreza that I can swap parts with. Would the Impreza axle work on the Legacy? Both cars are automatics
  14. looks like I'm not the only one who thought the Firebird spoiler would look good on an XT6 Just don't open the trunk and then turn the car on, that's how I screwed up my antenna when it extended up, directly into the spoiler
  15. Oh wow, that just made my day right there. I didn't even realize they had pics up. I didn't have too many good pics of my XT6 before now
