  3. Hey guys, I just joined here a week or so ago and want to show the wagon I built! I started off with a FWD automatic GL wagon and tinted the windows. Then i bought a 4WD wagon parts car off of craigslist with a blown engine, and no title and tore it all apart (best $150 bucks ever spent) After I had a whole cars worth of parts laying around.. It was time to get to work! First off i raised up the car and dropped the front subframe, took off the engine and ditched the old worn out FWD tranny and stripped hubs. I then took the 4WD subframe, took off the engine and bolted my good engine too it. I got rid of the AC and welded a bolt in place of it so i could keep my alternator bracket in the same location. The new subframe also had manual steering too! how sweet! I went to my local auto parts store and got a belt that fit. then I put the 4WD front subframe/tranny in.. bolted up easily.. (like it should) Before.. After I then had to take out the pedals and replace them with the manual ones so I'd have a clutch, lol Now the car has the front end done.. time to work on the middle of the car.. Pretty strait forward.. but since this car was originally FWD there was no bracket or holes to hold up the driveshaft. I went to the parts car and cut out the bracket and welded it onto the project car, then bolted up the driveshaft. now.. this sucker is looking at me.... I started off by unbolting the rear subframe.. fuel pump, brakes, brake lines, and wires for the gas tank.. (again, really easy) I was close to putting in the 4WD gas tank and i realized the FWD and 4WD have the same tank! Too bad i already drained the FWD tank.. But anyway.. As i was bolting up the 4WD subframe, I noticed that there was no brackets to hold up the rear diff. I drilled some holes where they should be and cut a window behind the tires to put bolts threw, bolted the whole thing up and reconnected all the brake lines/wires/hoses and i was finished with the back! Now,i have to deal with wiring.. Ugh.. had to take off the drivers side fender and swapped the wires over.. simple.. just a pain in the butt.. I swapped dashes out so i wouldn't have the P-R-N-D-2-1 looking at me. Finished! had alot more power and a tad better millage since i got rid of all the emissions/AC/PS stuff.. I drove around with the stock carb for a few months and I came across a webber and adapter to fit my car.. pretty decent power increase.. Now im finished! Even the Subaru mechanics didn't believe this car was FWD and automatic till i showed them the brackets i welded on How awesome is that?
  4. there ya go! theres a compresser.. i have all the lines and stuff subaruguru isnt including..
  5. wait.. so that means i could grab 5 lug hubs from a fwd 5 speed impreza with the 23 spline and just stick them on my GL? and if so.. could i stick them on the back too and have a 4 wheel disk brake conversion? or are the rear axles differant size?
  6. I could help you with that. except for the freon bit.. but r34 works if done right. I've done a few retro fittings that are working really good.. id do it for cheep.. like.. way cheep.. Let me know if your interested
  7. alright, i fixed the problem. it was the AAV.. it was gunked up with oil.. i cleaned it out.. and put it back in and wallah! down to 700rpm idle! also i changed the pcv hoses around so i wouldent get that problem anymore.. seems to work really well too:banana:
  8. >__> was afraid it was that one anyway to bypass that and tell it to stop making my car idle so damn high?
  9. how bout i give a (fairly new) cat and a bad cat with molten aluminum inside to help me get this thing fixed? or ill let you pick threw a 85 GL wagon parts car i got sitting here.. ill drive if its not too far i just need this thing to be as reliable as possible so i can start driving it cross country.
  10. i still cant find it >__< how bout this.. free CV axle off a ea82 wagon with a bad boot to whoever comes here and helps me fix this dang problem! XD im gonna need a picture.. Ive taken off every clip that looks like an injector clip.. and it doesnt change a thing.. im not used to these sensors and crap *edit* sorry that my cars being a pain in the butt.. i really am trying to figure this out. After evry new responce i go outside and look for an hour or two.. I've been up since saturday working on this thing. im getting kinda desperate.
  11. thanks wonder if anyone would notice that XD well, i just fixed the valve timing few hours ago.. was a few teeth off on the passenger side.. now the thing revs to god knows how high. but still idles fast.. it idles ALOT faster after its warmed up.. (1800rpm) i also plugged all the vacume lines.. dident help much.. the throttle adjustment screw is all the way in.. the TPS is zero'd out.. ive done evrything i know how to do.. without outside help where is the CTS located at? i need pictures ive looked! >__<
  12. if the ecu is in the trunk, then ive tried it both bluged in and not.. still have the same idle problem. is a vid of it
  13. hey all! I'm a Washington Subaru nut here! own a 91 XT and a 85 GL wagon. but anyways, i got an interesting problem, i think i know whats causing it.. but id like some more ideas what it might be before i jump in and do something serious. my problem is that the car doesn't idle well, idles about 1200rpm when cold and about 1500 when warm.. it studders at idle but revs up smooth. It also has the timing super advanced.. cause if I set it at the factory setting it wont even rev up at all, it just studders at 500rpm. it doesn't seem to have any power at all.. has an ungodly amount of torque on the freeway, but my wagon can beat it in a drag race. Also, it doesn't want to rev at all past 6,000 rpm, it sounds like the valves are floating.. or something.. just bogs i have a good idea what it might be, but I'm not familiar with these fuel injected EA82's ill post a youtube when its done prosessing
