  1. Sorry, forgot to mention...this is on a EJ22E. I'm afraid I'm not exactly following with the dots/hashes stuff...don't follow the arrows on the cam sprockets?
  2. It never actually gets to running, but when cranking it over a couple of the cylinders do ignite (perhaps at the wrong time?) Another question before I tackle this again tomorrow (at a place with no internet)...as long as both the cam and crank are straight up, it should be correct...right? There isn't a way to get the cam phase/crank phase messed up? Sorry guys, just trying to cover all my bases. I don't want to go back Wednesday as well!
  3. Thank you guys! Apparently, I'll be re-doing the entire procedure tomorrow anyway, so the advice is greatly appreciated. I must have the belt a tooth or so off...it would ignite a little, but not enough to stay running.
  4. That is pretty close to what I tried, but for the life of me I couldn't get the toothed idler to go in! Finally, I let the two smooth idlers be loose, raged at it a little and it worked out. I just hope I got the cam phasing right.
  5. After fighting with it for a exceedingly long period of time yesterday, I finally got the timing belt back on, but...it seemed far more difficult than it should be and my instructions were lackluster at best. Everything imaginable seemed to fight me. Is there an easy way (for next time, in case I'm a tooth off)?
  6. You know that adage about pooping where you eat?

  8. Sure...and a lot of them get dragged out and trailered home too when the trans pukes or they spend a pretty fair chunk of change on having a stout auto built. I'm no stranger to playing offroad...some guys are successful with autos (talking fullsize or buggy), however I don't care for them at all.
  9. If you pour that gasket in a can crap in your motor, start shopping for a different one.
  10. That is pretty much how it is done. It can be accomplished with careful use of a hand drill, but a drill press makes this job much easier.

  12. Since I'll be doing the headgaskets and timing set next weekend, can the timing covers be left off like the EA82 or are they more necessary on this family of motor?
  13. Good deal! Make one decent car and part the other carcass out!
  14. HG kit with valve cover gaskets, intake and exhaust gaskets and a bunch of small round stuff I don't recognize (yet). It is BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0322891 if you want to look. Already bought one of the Ebay timing kits from PCI with water pump, 2 upper idlers, 1 lower idler and tensioner pulley. Also, thank you very much for that link! I'll be leeching all of the files from there.
