  1. Ok. Thanks for all your help so far! I need to get the harness pulled out completely I think before I can really make any sense of this! obviously the engine control stuff is the stuff hooked up to the engine...what else controls the engine? I need the ignition and fuel pump relays, and the VSS, temp, and oil pressure wires. Its probably easier than I'm making it out to be, but whoa! there's an overwhelming amount of wires under the dash! I'm so confused...I wish I had the cash to send the harness out - seems like the easy/best thing to do, but I still have to get the adapter plate! Is it necessary to get the freshly machined flywheel, or can I make due with the old flywheel (just grinding out the holes to match the EJ flywheel)? Will putting a new clutch on the old flywheel surface be problematic in the long run?
  2. Not trying to sound like an idiot here - I read through the conversion write-up - but where does the EJ22 harness get spliced into the EA82 harness? I'm starting to feel like I bit off more than I can chew...
  3. Anyone have copies of the EJ22 wiring schematics for a 1990 Legacy? I'm working on pulling the wiring harness, and the schematics in the EJ writeup are quite helpful, but still missing a lot - I'm trying to label and figure out what's what so I don't miss anything. Maybe a write-up exists that details the wiring a little more in-depth? Also - if you need any parts off a 90 Legacy, let me know. I have almost a whole car that going to the junkyard after I pull the harness/engine/ecu. everything but the driver's side strut and fender are there.
  4. Ok... What do you mean you just grounded it? You just grounded the switch to the body? ...Anyone looking for any rear disc stuff for a 90-94 Legacy? I guess the stuff I have is of no use to me! I'll be happy to send it one I get it removed - you just have to pay shipping...for that matter, I have lots 'o parts. This car really only needs a new front drivers strut and fender to drive - I just want the EJ22/harness/ECU...the rest is up for grabs. If you're near Missoula, MT and want to take the carcass away...it's all yours.
  5. Sweet, thanks! That's good news...does anything need to be done with the neutral safety switch? Or with that wire in general? Or does it just get cut?
  6. Hello all - I'm pretty new to subarus...so bear with me please. I have an 86 GL (carbeurated, D/R 5 speed), and a wrecked 1990 Legacy with an EJ22. The legacy has 4 wheel discs, but is a 2wd auto. I want to put the EJ22 into the GL, and am interested in eventually doing a 5 lug swap/disc conversion also using parts from the Legacy. Will the fact that the Legacy is an auto, and i want to put the engine into a 5 spd. car give me problems? What needs to be done to address this? Specifically, is the ECU going to be troublesome? Thanks!
  7. I've got that same problem on my 86 GL wagon. Just replaced the drivers side axle - the passenger was replaced about a year ago. The noise might have gotten a bit better, but it's definitely still there. The bearings are good, and freshly greased. I was thinking the brakes (they shudder a bit on braking indicating warped rotors, i guess), but before I thought about the brakes, alignment crossed my mind. My front tires are worn out, and I'm about to replace them. I'll have an alignment done at the same time, and let you know if the noise goes away.
