Carlise 2011 interest thread
WagonsOnly replied to subeman90's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
For the first time in years, I think I'm free that weekend. Going to check with my other half now. Hopefully will be able to drive down in the convertible, or in your old '83, Matt. -
lmdew: Yes, either they work...or they don't. All of the controls are solid-state and a bad alternator or voltage spike will take out the whole unit. They aren't worth fixing. That said, the one in my GL-10 worked perfectly 'til I sold the car, and last year I picked one up for my wife's Baja-which is also working perfectly. (At least that one was plug-and-play, no messing with the wiring harness.) Gary: To load a disc, press CD, then press LOAD, then press the slot you want (the 1 through 6 buttons), then insert the CD. To eject, press CD, press the number of the disc you want to remove, then press EJECT. Pressing CD and then EJECT will eject the next CD in the queue, not necessarily the one you actually want to remove. Hope this helps. Andrew

Thanks for all the quick replies. We're not new to Subarus (although she's coming from a '97 Toyota T100...ANYthing is an improvement at this point!), but I've never had a "new" gen Subie save for a '93 Legacy a couple of years ago. Gary, Matt was kind enough to toss me the keys to his Baja Sport at the '06 Carlisle meet...I was hooked then, fortunately Megan loved the test drives she took yesterday almost as much. (I think.) The only things I'm really worried about are the reputations for head gaskets and the 4EAT (as she either can't or won't drive a stick). '87GL - gee thanks, I almost forgot you guys didn't have rust. :-( I love the plate, though - CT DMV says it's still available out in our neck of the woods, too, if you don't mind a little imitation-as-flattery Also, would any of you happen to have any experience mounting kayaks, bicycles, or cartop carriers?

Hi all, My fiance is looking at purchasing a gently-used Baja in the greater Hartford area and we both have a couple of questions on them--so if anyone has any pertinent information (either on what we've asked or what we should know), it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, she can't wait to get it and I can't wait to borrow it. 1. Has anyone had a head gasket or auto tranny failure on a Baja? If so, what year and how many miles? 2. What experience have you had with accessories? Are the caps easy to remove? Can they be used easily with a bed extender or is it a pain to have both installed at once? If you have a tonneau cover, is it hard or soft? Do the soft ones hold up under snow? (We won't have a garage for at least another year. :-\) 3. How well does the interior hold up? 4. How well-made are the exterior trim bits? And does anyone have any rust showing yet? 5. What else do we need to know? Thanks all so much! Andrew

Sudden loss of power and stalling, sputtering
WagonsOnly replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, can we have a follow-up on this? I'm having the same problem with my '83 GL sedan (carbed EA81/5MT). The car only has 58K miles on it, and it stalled out on me three times on my way into work today. :-\ -
What model Subaru is it?

Are you the same person as the zukiru who posts over on TeamSwift? -

But I like butt-ugly and I don't mind driving chick cars (hence a yellow New Beetle and a yellow Geo Metro ragtop). I want a Yugo Cabrio someday too. (Also...if I'm remembering correctly, most X-90s came in purple, royal blue, and pastel metallic paints.) -

Most if not all of them were. They were only out for a couple of years in the mid-'90s, and they didn't sell too well (how many people do you know that want to buy a two-door sporty SUV with a removable roof and a trunk?) They were based on the Vitara/Tracker/Sidekick platform. I'd like to own one...someday...it'd look good next to my Metro convertible -
It's a neat feature--but if you're doing 70ish on the highway in the left-hand lane and need to get all the way over to the right because you lost a water pump and had absolutely no warning that this was going to happen because there was no needle, just a little red "you're screwed" light....perhaps it wouldn't seem like such a good idea. (My '00 New Beetle had this same "feature.") Just my .02. If I ever was to have another car without the needle, I'd put something aftermarket in (and I generally hate aftermarket garbage in my car).

I know, I heard--congrats. (You've already seen my rust free '83 sedan. ) And congrats on the Imp! By the way, what are you doing with Rocky these days? I saw a post of frustration...wouldn't mind having him back, just for old times' sake. Depending on how you feel...

Carlisle show May 16-18 2008
WagonsOnly replied to subeman90's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'll try to be there, if so probably with an '83 sedan and/or a '94 turbo Legacy. No '70s stuff or 360s for me this year, I have too much work to do, on them and everything else, and too little time (I have one last semester 'til I graduate, and I've been tied up with paying work, regular school work, and my thesis--that's why I'm never on here anymore). Thanks, Matt, for running this again. -Andrew -
Hey Connie...Matt's old '83 found its way to a garage up in southern NH...here she is again: (that's my girlfriend in front of the photo) For whatever reason the photo isn't showing up, but it's in my gallery.

Good luck with a "GF" coupe, Jon. The USDM GF didn't start 'til 75...and it was only sold as a hardtop. -
Turbones Trip to the East Coast Update
WagonsOnly replied to Bucky92's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hey! I still have a front plate on my car and a Rushmore visitors' pass...so I'm going to guess you paid the eight bucks... Good to see you again at Tim's and glad you made it home in one piece...with no damage done to my new car Laura and I are still in Des Moines. Shawn, I'll give you a call about the seats and the cables. (don't think I'm missing any cables...I thought I had everything?) And many thanks to ShawnW, Turbone, IdahoJak, chef_tim and Vicky, Bucky92, and all the great folks at WCSS9--and my congratulations to Connie and Tommy! Way to go! (Rob showed me the video too.) -

Rob and I split at the first I-90 rest area in Wyoming...where is he now? (I'm in Denver, and the Escort seems to be doing much better at slightly lower altitude) -
Oh, it's pretty...

I appreciate the offer, but I'm in the same boat as you..and Paul...not a single EA81 wagon to my name at the moment. Just the one, and it's a convertible. But if I can help you ship it or find it a new home, let me know. -

I have a friend that'll be headed from the Hartford area to UMaine-Farmington, practically passing right by you...if a relay would work out, perhaps, let me know. -

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I'll do what I can to assist out here. I am bringing you a lousy tee-shirt :-p -
A couple of questions... -Are you an importer? -Do you know what it would take to get something like this through Customs, if not actually registered? -Can you get a new-generation R1 or R2 into this country, legally?

Just wondering if anyone else out there saw the clip of a 360 rolling through the streets of (I think) Pella, Iowa earlier today. It was on ABC on the 5:30 news, I think as part of the McCain...or Clinton...or...someone...campaign coverage. It was all decked out in red, white and blue bunting and the roof was removed. Anyone know whose it is?
