  1. Thanks, I'll look forward to your email. Any chance you could either upload some pics or send me some (higher resolution than the ones on eBay)? Andrew
  2. I have to disagree on handling. Maintenance on an EA82 is also cheaper, as is the initial buy-in cost. And tires are around $100 for a set of 155-series snows and not much more for 185-series street tires. Visibility can't be beat and it's a much more manageable and justifiable sized car for me--sure, I don't *need* a station wagon, but I prefer it. At the same time, I don't want anything approaching the size of an SUV, and a Legacy has nearly the same footprint (though certainly not the height and sloppiness) of a Blazer or Explorer. Nor does the Leg offer a digital dashboard, easily maintained turbo engine (parts-wise), dual range 4WD, GL-10 quality upholstery unless you get leather...basically I'd be trading everything I like about the EA82 series for a lousy cupholder. I think that the Legacy is better than the average car, by a long shot. I even had a '93 wagon for a while, and it was an okay car. But I didn't especially like it, let alone love it. I'm not putting those of you down who have a Legacy, because you're obviously being much more practical than I am in owning one. But I'll stand by my EA82s (and earlier) until the seat falls through the rust in the floorpan.
  3. Dunkin Donuts: For the "health conscious" reformed Krispy Kreme addict Within a 20 mile radius there are 26 listings in the phone directory--and that doesn't include anything in Hartford or Springfield. Mary, your count is probably higher (closer to Medford).
  4. Thank you!! Personally I prefer the EA82T over the EJ series anyway. The EJ22 might be bulletproof, smoother, more powerful--but I somehow think it has just a little less "character".
  5. Paul, driving her has inspired me...just starting to unmothball my GLF thanks to you :-)
  6. Because if I was a multimillionaire I'd drive a GL-10 on a daily basis. There Legacy, although admittedly an important car for Subaru in that it brought them upmarket, isn't as comfortable or practical for me as an EA82 series wagon.
  7. We've got Tim Horton's here, they just moved in about six months ago. Also have Dunkin's all over the place, three of them in the four mile stretch of US 5 that runs through my town alone. I seem to recall stopping at 2 off-hwy locations driving through Illinois (Joliet and someplace else along I-80).
  8. Congratulations, and good to hear it's in such good shape! If you do end up selling her, and you think she'll make a decently long road trip at that time (I'm in New England), I'd be interested. Please send me an email with photos and asking price if you do: aparker4.mac.com@earthlink.net As I also have a couple of 1400cc Subies I can certainly help you with parts so long as the coupe is in your care. I also have a spare '75 factory service manual, if you need one. Take care, Andrew
  9. I'd also like to see some photos. Congratulations--I've been looking for one of these for sale for just about eight years now...found one on eBay that was out of my price range at the time, and I've been kicking myself ever since. email address is aparker4.mac.com@earthlink.net if you can send some along. I just want to see the car, not making an offer on it or horning in on 75subie's dealings with you. (yet ) Anyway, congrats on it!
  10. Try posting this in the Marketplace under Wanted. I'm sure there are plenty of people local to you who can help you out, if not I have a headlight bucket already pulled--PM me if you need it.
  11. I have a bit of a problem--a good friend of mine is stationed at Warren AFB in Cheyenne, and she's been using my XT6--which left her stranded yesterday night. The starter is dead and I suspect the alternator is also on the way out. If there's anyone that could take a look at the car and throw the parts in within the next week or so you will have my undying gratitude, some cash and whatever parts I have you might want (free shipping on anything under 50lbs total). Please PM or email me so we can work something out. aparker4.mac.com@earthlink.net She's pretty desperate here... Thanks, Andrew
  12. I think you need to upload the picture instead of linking us to your desktop Which grilles/MYs are they?
  13. Run it on 91 or 93, I know you're from Iowa, but no ethanol would help. I got 17MPG in a New Beetle (I usually average around 35 hwy) using E85 for all highway driving. Didn't realize what I'd put in it 'til I read the receipt. (This was in your home state...)
  14. Was this the dark green one that was on AutoTrader? Fix her up and enjoy, there's nothing quite like a Subie
  15. EA82/ER27, mainly because of the body styles and the way the trannies behave. Also...there's nothing that sounds quite like one, reminds me of a much quieter Type 1 VW.
  16. Don't worry about the draft--it's the winter module for the air-conditioning booster :-p
  17. The doors are *almost* the same; here in the States Brat doors don't have a reinforcement in them, unlike the coupes and hatches. That may be different in Australia (this had to do with different safety standards under US importation laws at the time). But they can be used interchangeably among the coupe, hatch and Brat. Wheelbases are the same. (edit: between the coupe and sedan) I don't know about the weight off the top of my head but will post tomorrow out of an owner's manual if no one beats me to it. (highly unlikely )
  18. Hmm. You really do learn something new every day. Either of them GL-10s?
  19. OK then, quick question for either Steve or the Doctor--the d/r was not available in Turbo wagons, to my understanding. True or false? Also--didn't the '85-6 cars with the turbo d/r, also have RX VINs even if they didn't have the RX badging?
  20. It...might be. My winning bid on my '73 was $2,500 (about), plus around $400 in prep fees that were disclosed in the auction (they were waived when I got there). I also had to buy airplane tickets, a short train ride, and the gas to drive it home, but since this wagon is apparently local to you I wouldn't worry about that. I wouldn't expect to recover the total cost, though. The market for these cars is very small; once you run the mileage up a little, there goes your investment. Besides--Stage II 4WDs are relatively common, '75 or earlier Soobs are going to command the bigger $$ in the future (as they do already), especially the coupes, split-gate wagons, and first year 1400cc 4WDs. If I were you I'd get a Stage II from a Western state and either ship it or drive it home. (Well, I'd drive it home, but that's just me )
  21. Thanks very much, I appreciate it. This is the Justy that was on Autotrader this past October--other than that it's running great so far. I'm not disappointed in it at all and hopefully after I get the dings taken care of (it was hit in the left rear, not shown in the photos) it'll last me past 200K.
  22. Head gaskets. Check the head casting--EA82 means Gen 1 head, EA82 underlined means Gen 2, EA82 in a box means Gen 3. Gen 3's are most reliable; Gen 2s are acceptable. There was a rumor about Gen 4s being available; I believe WJM looked it up in a parts book once? Turbo cooling hoses can also be a royal pain and can lead to overheating. If I was going to get one sight unseen I'd check and change the radiator and hoses immediately. If it's a GL-10 make sure the sunroof drain holes are clear and that there hasn't been water leaking into the car for the past five years. Frequent and regular oil changes are absolutely necessary; ask for documentation. Otherwise, standard Subaru precautions and recommendations apply. Good luck!
  23. That was posted in a moment of frustration, during which none of the registered ones were running (and vice versa). My daily driver is an '01 New Beetle (Sunflower Yellow if you were wondering) but I also drive both XT6es and the Justy on a regular basis, the 360 around the yard only (NOT suitable for highway use!!) and the '73 in the summer, special occasions only.
  24. I ordered 3 wheel bearing seals for an '88 RX that didn't fit...and didn't fit...and didn't fit...before it occurred to me that the previous owner had done the 5-lug swap...did I ever feel STUPID.
