  1. I have a blue console, 2WD 5 speed manual windows that you can have for half the cost of shipping from 06088. I'll get you my VIN numbers tomorrow. Thanks, Andrew
  2. Very nice, nicer than my '75. Why does everything out here have to rust? =( Congratulations and good luck with the restoration.
  3. So--a '90 Leone for approxmately $600 US? A timing belt from a dealer shouldn't be more than $1500 AU, with a water pump and engine reseal. You can do it yourself for less than a third of that. Go for it.
  4. I believe any coil struts will do, from an XT4 DL or GL 1985-1991 (without the air struts). Air struts from the dealers are over a grand to replace all 4, and you have to keep them all or do the coil conversion to all 4 wheels (otherwise you'd have an adjustable-height car for front/rear/side, the car would go out of alignment, etc.) Given the price of XTs, I'd either look for a used air strut or do the conversion. Bear in mind air struts only last 60-90K miles, too.
  5. No...I can't do 500 for a 2WD. Not with that mileage, and picking it up. Maybe if we were closer. The XT I just picked up from Paul (the guy who's telling me to take my meds :-p ) was 500. I understand about the parts, so if you're going to part it--$50 for the front/rear seats? Thanks, aparker@aparker.asnuntuck.org
  6. Were you perhaps interested in selling instead of scrapping? Car would need to be able to limp back to CT. But if the rust is only as bad as what it looks like in your pics, I could register that in CT no problem... Thanks, Andrew aparker@aparker.asnuntuck.org
  7. Don't worry about the Governator, Davis is still in office...for the meantime... Good to hear you and your family/friends are safe. I hope no one else on the board lives in the fre zone.
  8. Don't worry about the Governator, Davis is still in office...for the meantime...
  9. My Forester isn't exactly new. And no heated seats they had a Forester S with them, but it had 97K on a Gen 1 2.5 engine, they wouldn't gve me an extended warranty on it and they said they didn't have service records. So I got a '99 instead, with fewer miles, options and headaches. We shall see how well it goes through snowdrifts this winter. Any, ah, extracurricular actvities are going to have to wait until marriage.
  10. Lowered the suspension, lug conversions and XT6 wheels/lower profile tires, and other things of that nature--look in the Archives forum for details, and welcome to the board.
  11. That is the NICEST Brat I've ever seen. Keep it on the street, definitely (f not under a cover in your garage). Nice score.
  12. A retro Baja??? Of course almost everyone under 30 thinks my 360 is some kind of mini-Volkswagen...
  13. Only a dusting here, but it was the first time for the Forester and it handled superbly. I miss my GL-10 though...next week it's getting a complete teardown, rebuild and tuneup. Repaint and body work are coming this Spring.
  14. Hmmm...selling the XT? Is it a 5spd? Any options? And I also have a line on a '93 SVX LS-L Touring with the 25th Anniversary package. One of either 600 or 301, depending on who you believe...I'm going to see if she'll finance. Please also check your mail, the lousy school server is running again (temporarily) so I have email access for now.
  15. All auto trannies are troublesome, but the ones from the mid-'90s are pretty decent. Just steer clear of the SVX if you're worried about transmission troubles--most of them have been thrashed. Good luck in your search.
  16. I'm a little leery about getting an EA81 turbo. Has anyone done a 5s conversion on one? How did it come out? And does SOA still make turbo parts and digidashes available? (And moosens--why didn't you tell me that when you sold us the coupe? just kidding)
  17. I'm thinking OBD2 started in '96, can anyone confirm/deny this? And as for the tranny, a manual could be swapped in, a d/r mt would have to be brought in from Europe or Japan. Pricey and not worth it, get something late '80s for the d/r. As for rust--do cars rust in Texas?! Actually almost all the Imprezas I see here (northern CT and western MA) are rust-free, as are all the Gen II/III Legacies and all the Foresters. I thnk FHI finally got the rust problem under control (or it just takes longer for them to rust out). Good luck on your search!
  18. Are you planning on keeping it 4WD or making it a front-drive? It might be easier to make it FWD and cut/reweld the rear axle, mount it a bit higher. A lowered 4WD wagon doesn't have much trail potential anyway:cornfuzz:
  19. If the intermittent wiper part works, I'd test the switch last. The high setting s right between the low/int settings, so the contacts are probably good. Check the motor--put the switch on high with the car running (wet the windshield first so it doesn't scratch) and nudge the wipers. Sometimes they're just frozen. And we all like simple fixes.
  20. Don't forget that the passenger side hatch seat is on a mechanical slider, same as the 2-door--and if your rear passenger/dog steps on that lever you'll be headed at the windsheld pretty quick. Also, the recliner lever will be inaccessible and you'll lose the lumbar support. There was another thread on the same subject in this forum (swapping Gen I wagon seats for BRAT seats, and installing EA82 and other seats in Gen II wagons). Have a look at that, there are some pretty good comments and sources for aftermarket seats. Here's the direct link: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=50158#post50158
  21. Here are the specs: -1984 GL sedan, maroon with tan interior, small crack on driver's seat (vinyl only), some undercarriage rust (not on frame and the jack points are solid) -Sunroof -Working analog dash -Cruise (not functioning-broken vacuum line) -Rear deck rack/spoiler thingie -Auto tranny, 4WD, replaced at 50K with Subaru OEM parts (NOT rebuilt) -All dealer maintenance records -One owner -139K -A/C, hasn't worked in about a year, supposedly just needs a recharge -Power windows Seller wanted $600 for it. Said I could have it for $450. It's 200 miles away...should I go for it? Sedans are getting rarer in this area and the rust is no worse than on the GLF moosens sold to my mom--minimal in easy-to-fix areas. What say the Board?
  22. There's an awfully big difference between Cyls 1-2 and 3-4. No two cylnders should be more than 10 PSI apart with that kind of mileage. I'd redo the heads first, then send it in for rings if that didn't solve the problem. (And I'd find another source for JDM engines. I think you got taken on the mileage.)
  23. No. The recline levers would be right next to the center console and rendered totally inaccessible by the exhaust hump and the console. In additon the seatbelts would be on the outboard sides, instead of inboard--you wouldn't be able to use the seatbelts at all. I'm sure you could shoehorn the driver's seat into the passenger side, (not sure about the rail setup though) but given the symmetry--adjusters for reach, lumbar, ashtray on DL models (we're only talking Gen 1 here, right?), and recliners, and the seatbelt issue, I think you'd be best off with an upholstery job or seatcovers. My 2¢, Andrew
  24. Undo all the screws in the bottom of the steering column, remove the plastic top, take off the bottom (you may have to monkey around with the tilt steering lever a little), remove the screw on the top of the steering column under the plastic, unscrew the ignition switch from the left-hand side of the lock, and clip the wires. That's all there is to it. Your car will also start by using a key blank or screwdriver in the switch bolted to the left of the barrel. NOTE: Do NOT clip the wires on the switch, only on the lick barrel. You need the switch to start the car. The wires that are on the lock barrel are for the key sensor, so the speaker in the dash chimes when you open the door with the key in the ignition. (Splicing that wire back in with a new lock barrel is optional; it depends on whether or not you want/need the chime, for inspections or otherwise.) Hope this helps, Andrew (This message verfied by a rather nasty experience: A friend of my father's brought a member of hs church's youth group [for disadvantaged children] ona camping trip with us, and he deemed it appropriate to pitch the key to my dad's then-new-to-him DL wagon into the woods. 200 miles from home. And we had no regstration, bill of sale, or title--only temp plates and a switch dangling out of the ignition on the way home. As he'd just gotten the car we had no paperwork with us, the DMV hadn't issued permanent plates, a permanent registration, etc. The trip home was very interesting.)
