  1. I drowned my car a while ago... Used a come-along to get it out of the hole. Engine completely hydrolocked. Used the starter to crank water past the rings. Another few minutes of cranking, it was purring along like nothing ever happened...
  2. Sorry for crappy picture, but GLs are very happy towing I tow probably a hundred small boats in the summer with my car. It has a stock ea81, so less power than the 82! It does quite well. Rear disc brake conversion greatly helped with stopping my rig. And a low range helps get moving with a heavy boat up a steep launching ramp.
  3. I've found the only accurate way to calculate over just one tank is to use the same gas pump at the same gas station. Hold it on full, and when it clicks off don't add anymore. Now, if you keep track of mileages and fill up amounts over the course of months, that sort of stuff gets averaged out.
  4. Or more importantly, putting lots of gashes on your knuckles I've always removed the radiator. Hmm, nice to know you don't have to. Do you pull the fans off?
  5. Oh, it'll be fine for 99.99% of the population. Especially so for the next 10 years while nobody who's going to mod it seriously for offroad can afford one. But when they come of age, is that transmission going to hold up?
  6. I don't really like stickers, but I figure I can pull off the original one and it will be stealth awesome
  7. Between a very low ratio and torque converter the idea of a CVT is amazing. Ultimate offfroad transmission, BUT. How well can the CVT hold up to good hard abuse? Off roading puts a lot of abuse on a transmission. Wheel spin, sudden grab, more wheel spin, repeat. Lots of running slowly winding up the TQ makes a lot of heat, etc.
  8. The cooler and lines going to it are much higher than the oil pan. So all the fluid will not drain out of the lines when they're disconnected. Not much comes out of that circuit anyway if it's been sitting for a while. And if it hasn't, draining the trans won't stop mess from pulling the rad. But, it's good to put new fluid in the trans anyway...
  9. Why would you drain the tranny for pulling the engine? I didn't, and never heard anyone doing it. It was a while ago, but I seem to remember it had something to do with getting the engine and transmission separated...
  10. My coolant is 182 while driving. Goes down to mid 170's if I'm going down a long hill, climbs up to high 180's going up a really long steep hill. But 182 is the average.
  11. Those go through the tire and green slime held? that's effing awesome.
  12. HA yea. Same here. First thing I noticed was the automatic and greasy CV axles. I wondered why doing a nice exhaust on such a car was worth it... heh.
  13. Since the engine is accounting for the vacuum leak, when you block it off it starts running a bit rich. Block it off right there on the intake and it'll be fine. With a leak like that, if you drive through something really dusty you could get a lot of dust in the motor.
  14. Idle should be 700. But with that said, if the engine is idling fine. Not shaking, stalling, etc. Let it alone. Good chance the tach reads wrong. My 96 read 150 RPMs low. My OBD2 reader indicated a 700rpm idle, and the tach looked like it was reading just under 600.
  15. I have that too. On my 98GT the original 2.5 only had one nipple there, and the engine I swapped in had two. I just covered it off. No CEL codes for evap or any crap like that.
  16. huh? I have a 4wd d/r, and that lever doesn't get in the way any.
  17. My cup holder is shoving the cup between the e-brake lever and the passenger seat. It's surprisingly stable. Never had a spill.

    plow car ?

THIS! Especially if you aren't plowing anything with a lot of bumps/hangs for the plow to catch on. It's just like anything. If you're an idiot, you'll break it. If you have half a brain, you'll be fine.
  19. Using steel I had laying around in the garage I made a hitch mount bike rack! I still need padding where the bike sits (for other people's bikes that aren't beat to hell). But it works awesome, really happy
  20. Those came on my car. Yes, 16". They look great, but never use them in the winter! Though they're called snowflakes, clearing snow out of them is damn near impossible. You have to shove your hand in between each of those spokes to get them cleared... Not nearly as bad as 14" pugs, but still a pain.
  21. Never thought it didn't... I know a 2.5 flexplate bolts to a 2.2. I've done that, and everyone who's done a 2.2 swap. And I've bolted what I was pretty sure a 2.5 clutch setup to a 2.2 for someone and it worked fine.
