  1. And do what? Get another $2000 car with unknown issues that'll need $1000 of parts/repair in the next year? If the car isn't rusty, just needs some maintenance and the center diff, I'd definitely fix it. Someone on here can definitely ship you a good used one. Ask in the wanted section.
  2. If you got water in your engine, drain the oil. Put fresh oil in it, then run it good and hard for a while to get all the moisture out of the crank case. If you keep driving it with water in there you'll ruin it.
  3. If it's lifted, I put the inner end of the boot just inward of the bumps it's supposed to clamped to. This works for both inner and outer boots and keeps them from doing that, helps the boots do better with more extreme angles.
  4. The child safety switches aren't set, because the doors DO open if you pull the handle and shoulder check the door. I need to pull the door cards anyway to grease the window tracks. Did it on the fronts and they work much better. So I'll check the linkages when I pull the cards. I figured it was something loose and not fully releasing the catch. Thanks for the advise! I'll check back in after I see if it works, or not works. Oh, one more thing, how do I tighten the linkage if that's what it needs? Is there a screw or something?
  5. Back doors in my 89GL open and close perfectly from the outside. But from the inside you have to pull the door handle and really push hard to make them open. Kinda disconcerting for people riding in back. haha What's out of adjustment that's making this happen?
  6. Only if it's an auto. Auto or stick?
  7. That would be DOHC. My experience with those is that if you don't overheat them, they're very good engines as long as they have good head gaskets. Do them once, do them right, and be done with it. That goes for pretty much any suby motor.
  8. Looked out the window this morning and noticed how clean it is. Yay torrential rain last night.
  9. You should always open the bleeder before compressing a caliper. If there's rust in the caliper you don't want to force it back into the system. This is more for ABS cars, but still, good practice. When you do pads that's a great time to bleed brakes anyway. If the pads need replacing, your brake fluid does too.
  10. I know someone on here has made flappy paddle shifters for their auto. But I cannot at all find the thread. Anyone have a link to it? thanks.
  11. A little ghetto, sort of hacked together, but here it is. Does what it's designed to do. That's the point of this car. Cheap and functional.
  12. There isn't a top bolt. Just slide the caliper off the slide. If the slide is stuck, then that sucks. I just dealt with that...
  13. It's gonna be quite the undertaking with the auto tranny. I'm excited to see how it goes! I'm sure you'll get it... You wouldn't have taken this on if you couldn't do the wiring.
  14. Did the first drain and fill in my 4eat. WOW what a difference. It shifts almost perfect, and the torque bind is totally gone.
  15. Nice! How'd you do that? Right now my engine is covered in mud. It could use a cleaning.
  16. I made a custom rear bumper. Towing the boat is fine, just take it easy. Don't be dumb, leave a nice following distance, slow down BEFORE corners, etc.
  17. Good you found them on ebay. You wouldn't like the price from subaru. BTW, they're called wheel center caps, if you're trying to find them again.
  18. I like your attitude! Just see how it goes. If it doesn't work do something else.
  19. I've read that too. Pressure down the tires and keep them off the ground. Still, it's unclear whether it's bad to have the suspension compressed or uncompressed. I'd think the latter... but??
  20. Sorry for the crappy pic, but I tow this all the time in the summer with my GL. The ea81, D/R 5speed, and disc brakes do a fine job keeping everything under control. I just take it easy, go the speed limit, slow down before corners, etc. I pretend I'm driving a big truck, the all my CDL training comes to mind and I do fine.
  21. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it's a good idea ... But ya, having a clue about towing does help. Things like not slamming on the brakes on a corner... etc will probably help keep you alive towing a heavy load with a small car.
