  1. Thanks for the info. The napa book does have different sizes listed for 95 vs 96 exhaust gaskets. 1.75" vs 2". And mine has 1.75 doughnut. The one they sold me isn't tall enough so it still leaks. Grr, but I'll be at the dealer today so hopefully they can get me the correct part. I need to pass inspection this month ... I have no idea what's up with the rear O2, it looks like the bung for it is plugged up with a bolt in the cat. Maybe someone put in a resistor? dunno.
  2. So I've been having a hard time lately getting parts that fit my 96 legacy. I've had break parts not fit, only to order parts from a 95 that fit. Some of the wiring from the 96 manual doesn't match up, but it does from a 95. It doesn't have a second O2 censor. Yet I've got a code for it once, but it never came back for the last year and a half. And most recently the first doughnut gasket in the system I got from napa doesn't fit. It's a 2" gasket meant for the 96. Out of frustration I asked for the gasket from a 95 which is 1 3/4" and fits except that it's a little to short. So what's going on? Is my car a 95 that was re-branded 96? Did someone have a complete 95 parts car they swapped a lot of stuff from? Are the early 96s made in october 95 essentially a 95 branded as a 96? I'm starting to get really pissed off making tons of trips to napa because the parts that are supposed to fit my car don't.
  3. I use those waterproof shrinktube connectors in boats all the time. They work amazingly well! They can be submerged in salt water forever and nothing ever happens to them. I've never had an issue with them. As for soldering, I use high grade lead-based electronics solder and the correct flux. I make very nice solder joints, and I've never had a problem with that either. I haven't done much with car wiring yet, but TONS and TONS with boats. And on boats you see just about as adverse conditions that you see on a car. As for EJ swapping, I have it in the future of my GL. Why doesn't anyone ever build the wiring harness from the engine to the computer from scratch? Is that worse than pulling a harness and stripping it?
  4. Mine seized. I got it going again, but it never had very much power afterwards. One from a JY was about $5. You can get the pump out of the bottle without removing the bottle. Just remove the splash guard. If want to remove the bottle it's just 3 10mm nuts under the hood and the bottle drops out.
  5. I have something that looks like that on my 89GL. It was there when I bought it from braman. No idea where he got it, supposedly a rare suby part. Dunno. Here's a pic.
  6. I call those computers hard drive killers... I have tons of fans over my drives. All free, mostly crap, so redundancy is a must. Hey, this has nothing to do with subarus!! haha
  7. Because the US got shafted on good stuff. Other countries didn't. But you probably didn't the legacy till later. Every country gets different stuff.
  8. Awesome! Thanks. Does anyone know the diameter of the ea82 flywheel? Then I can figure out the circumference of the flywheel, and how many mm per degree. Or if someone has the info that would be cool too.
  9. I'm wondering how to adjust the timing on my car 89GL. It has an ea81 swapped into the stock SPFI. Using the ea82 disty and ea82 flywheel. Since it has the ea82 flywheel it doesn't have the right timing marks. I have no idea how it was set originally since I wasn't the one who swapped it. I has this really funky retaining system too... anyway, I'm not sure the timing is correct and would like to check/adjust so I can get the best mileage/power etc. Thanks for help!
  10. The muffler just fell off my Legacy. About it for now though...
  11. No tach, cruise, not sure if they had AC, still putting the 1.8 in cars up to 97... etc. I think it was just a way to get rid of new outdated parts. But who knows...
  12. A brighton is just a more base model than the L model. They had the impreza brighton and a legacy brighton. I'm pretty sure the impreza never came with that wing unless it was an RS, and the front bumper may be swapped too.
  13. The flooring it after half an hour thing sounds like a leaky injector as suggested. I'd run some injector cleaner through it. Or just replace the injector. They're pretty cheap from a yard.
  14. It isn't connected to the rear brakes the same though. There's a special drum brake that is only for the e-brake. Unlike on EA cars how it actually actuates the front disc brake. Which makes tons of sense and actually makes the e-brake useful.
  15. You must have a DL then? Every loyale I've seen has all the gauges.
  16. That's just the drum brakes for the e-brake, correct? It's still disk brakes for stopping.
  17. Rust blatantly sucks. No other way to describe it. I've spent so much damned time beating on things because they're rusted all to hell...
  18. Maybe there's something wrong with my legacy, but if one wheel looses 100% traction the other wheels don't get enough power to move the car up a hill, or out of snow, etc. It just sits there and that wheel spins. A cusco would be nice...
  19. Why must the viscus center be used with the 4.11 gearing? I've found that the viscus diff in my legacy is completely pathetic and wouldn't want it offroad.
  20. ^^ use your imagination .... nobody ever said it had to move with said lift
