Cannot get rid of this lifter tick!!!!! (NEW PUZZLING UPDATE)
987687 replied to gijoe985's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust try selling it. Maybe the buyer won't care that it has a lifter tick because it is a very typical and fairly harmless subaru thing.

987687 replied to gijoe985's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, they are self-adjusting. So I assume you're putting more pressure on them than when the engine runs causing them to keep the valves open. Have you tried just replacing the adjusters?

fuel economy
987687 replied to Uberoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe short 5th on the '99 OBW drives me nuts, running 3k RPMs at 65, in my legacy I'm spinning 3k at 70.

Subaru still believes
987687 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBut it would only run on 10% of the roads.

EGR valve
987687 replied to mikes403regal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo there isn't a signal that says "Open the EGR now"?

EGR valve
987687 replied to mikes403regal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you were electrically inclined you could design a device to simulate an EGR to the computer. My fear would be that it would run slightly rich because the computer would "think" it was getting exhaust back in the intake when it really isn't.

Time to do timng belt on my '97 GT DOHC 2.5, what do I need?
987687 replied to SubeeTed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had my water pump seize up on me at 92,000 miles (yay non-interference engine!!). So I always say replace it.

need quick but accurate answer LOL
987687 replied to bgambino's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXon my car they aren't. There are 2 different sizes. if you pull them all out it will be obvious if they are all the same or not.

987687 replied to bgambino's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI went to napa and asked for the bulb. It is listen in their computer system as to which one you need.

Won't start
987687 replied to fatguide's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, it would sound like it doesn't have any compression. Turn over a bit faster. But since your engine is non-interference the pistons and valves will never come into contact. So you won't hear any nasty noises if your timing belt breaks.

how many miles does your Ej22 have??
987687 replied to felixwankel88's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOnly a mere 100,600 on mine. Glad to see I have at least another 150,000+ trouble free miles on it!

Transmission fluid...
987687 replied to Fairtax4me's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHow bad does it leak? My '96 AWD 5MT leaks too. But not that bad. I add about half a quart every 3000 miles, a bit more if I'm doing a lot of highway driving. I guess it heats up more and gets thinner. So leaks worse. As long as you keep on top of it, it shouldn't be a problem.

Low voltage at idle
987687 replied to ericem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe voltage/charge regulator. Which could be my issue too. It controls how much current is given to the stator, and thus how much the alternator puts out.

A low fuel light?!
987687 replied to Fairtax4me's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAH, that makes sense. Because sometimes the light is dim, then gets brighter. Or as the gas sloshes around the light slowly gets dimmer and fades out. I figured it had to be analogue because of the dimming, digital the light would be on or off.

Low voltage at idle
987687 replied to ericem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've always had the low voltage at idle. When I idle my headlights noticeably dim. I always attributed it to a failing alternator.

A low fuel light?!
987687 replied to Fairtax4me's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI used to think it was only a 12 gallon tank. Because when the light came on I'd fill up within a few miles. And it would only take about 12 gal. Then one day I was in the middle of nowhere kinda lost and out of gas. The light came on, and all I could think was that I was screwed. Finally made it to a gas station and filled up with 15.6 gal. Read the manual and found out it is a 15.9 gal tank.
