No it's not! You wouldn't be saying that about an FF or something. I understand not wanting to rust it up!! But.... being put away for the winter gives you good opportunity to do a 5speed swap Happy birthday

I figure since at that camera angle the light is hitting the hood and bouncing to the camera. When you're in the car, the light is bouncing away from you. The reflection into your face would be next to nothing.

I see some light hitting the hood in that one. Doesn't that get annoying? That's the main reason I haven't been tempted to mount lights on the roof.

You don't want a clutch that grabs TOO well, you want the clutch to break before the gears.

Can't you also just put an ej gearset in an ea box?

Ocracoke indeed! I love your hatch!

Anything pre-legacy. -
I don't see a problem with bolting up an old hub with 2 studs knocked out and making marks with a transfer punch. I thought that's how everyone does it.

I like my ea81. I like that engine, but then, I have crap luck with EJ motors. I think I'll just go right to the EG33 for my legacy, it doesn't have a J in the name so it must be better
-
A properly rebuild ea82 will last quite a long time. The issue is, they're not worth rebuilding...

So if I get the sealed for life ones, I don't need to screw around with getting grease everywhere, I just pop the bearings in and run with it? That would be cool. Is it easier to remove the knuckle, or remove the axle... I guess that depends on if my ball joint wants to come out. I should find out the OD of the bearing so I can make something to drive it back in before I take it apart, I have access to grinding, oxy/ace, etc, etc. So I can surely make something just smaller than the OD no problem. Also, wicked interesting on the taper bearings, I prefer that kind of bearing anyway. Some time when I have more time I'll definitely screw around with that, I'll put that in my list of "things to make my car better". -

Dealers don't usually do too much in the way of wiring anyway. If something goes wrong they just replace the whole wiring harness. That may as well be mechanical, take out the old one, plug in a new one. The people who work at dealers can get certified in engine, transmission, etc. They should have an electrical one too. I used to prefer electrical issues to mechanical ones, but now I'd rather have a mechanical issue. I can hear it, feel it, see it, etc. Electrical can be a little confusing to people sometimes. I do marine electronics though, all custom there, so electrical stuff doesn't bother me.

This is not a fun situation to be in.... Unreliable DDs suck. You'll find yourself in situations like figuring out how to replace axles in a parking lot 600 miles from home, or using teh deck of a house with strict no working on cars rules to pull the engine...

You shouldn't hold it at that high RPM, 2000 or so would work. Sounds like the IACV to me, especially since it'll run when warm. After it's warmed up, push the gas pedal all the way to the floor. If it's an IACV problem the engine should just plain die like you shut off the key.
