xbeerd replied to sunset's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
LOL. sorry about that, the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. it probably says check engine on it, my cars a 92, the light is on the right side of the indicators that run along the area under the gauges. i dont know exactly where it is on the 86. if its on, you'd probably know. -

why dont you change the sig file to include a link to it. just thinkin that most people that stumble in arent here thinking... "man, is THIS the trashwagon10 thread?" like---> Trashwagon10 URL="http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1001058#post1001058"]trashwagon10[/url (add the [ and ] at the beginning and end to make it work -
so your sayin that wether i use the 4eat or d/r5spd its coming down to preference rather than reliability due to beating it? this car is most likely not goin to see anything more than a crappy dirt road, let alone a off road trail. im just tryin to capitalize on free parts retained from this wrecked OB.

yeah, my buddy who was going to do a ej tranny swap in a xt (Monster Wedge actually) but isnt going to do it, he's got the brackets needed and the driveshaft for me for $125. gonna head out towards the junkyard after lunch.. in the snow.. and see whats up with this 03 LGT they have.

hehe actually rethinking the whole thing, it would be way cheaper to put in the 4eat. keeping the ea axles and swappin on the DOJ cups from the ej axles, mounting the rear dif to the mustache bar... i think i'd just need to make an adaption plate for that as i've seen a few others do. id just have to bank that the 4eat is infact good and that the wiring from the tps is actually what is f'd up -

LOL. just caught that. anyways.. as far as the axles. overall length, the EJ is a shorter axle probably due to a wider transmission. but here is an external comparison of the 2 doj's -

for the trans? there's just a few brackets from a legacy(or something) and a wrx that you combine to make it mount in and fit, its in the tranny section of the ej swap manual. Clints got them and was gonna sell me that and the driveshaft for $125. fox.. what you think... think the D/r would handle the ej25 ok? kind of a toss up now, i buy the brackets from clint and use the outback stuff i have (scavenge axle cups, trans, dif, shifter/selector etc, or i buy a ej plate and parts.. seems like the costs will be similar. but more wiring with the 4eat -

yeah, im already in contact with that guy! i sent him pics of the door/hood/fenders last night, hope he likes them. only thing i wonder tho, if he is lookin for legacy stuff, and my stuff is outback so the doors and fender have the extra body plastic on them. unless he has an outback and just didnt mention it. -

not to much to make other than the axles work and the driveshaft shortening?!? and probably new springs due to mine bein saggy enough. if thats all it is, im down for it. just not feelin the Auto that much. 5spd would require less wiring. LOL. -

noooooo EJ-4eat to the ej25 its currently attached to. i'd have to get the driveshaft shortened, and go back to a automatic, which im not that thrilled about. but if it will hold the power better i'd contemplate the idea. or find a 5spd from a wrecked car. you know if the ej trans are all the same final drive off hand? wondering if the dif from the Ob would work with a 5spd. clint has alll the mounting stuff i'd need for it. -

i wish this board would copy the content of the latest post in the email notification like the DI board does. i guess thats a down point of getting email notifications constantly via the ol cell phone. -

i'm here! keeping it clean may be hard, i'll try tho! i have a guy interested in the fenders, hood, and drivers door of the trashedoutback (not the trashOutback! ) gotta find a space in the front of the car to hide the remote activated washer nozzle. I think i may have found the issue with the trans in the outback. from my short conversation with another member on here, 91loyale, i think there is a short in the wiring to the TPS. i have 2 TPS's with the same result. fox. what you think of puttin the 4eat and rear dif into my car vs the ej25 onto the dual range trans? i would prefer to keep the dual range. cuz its well. cool. but im thinkin to keep the 4eat around just incase the d/r goes to crap. -
man, where were you in 09 when this crap started. LOL! i posted somewhere on here about this back then but i cant find it yeah, dunno if i'll make it out to the yard, only bummer is that the yards around here, if they even have a subaru, is a 99 and prior, HOWEVER, i heard they are getting a 03 LGT which may help. problem also is that all the TPS in there are the 3 pin, where as i have a 4 pin, im sure i could probably just take the 3pin connector and swipe a 3 pin TPS and make it fit, i dunno the reason for the different TPS, both only have 3 actual contacts. i may have to take a half day tomorrow to go for it now that i think about it just to try it out. im with you tho... i never pull on the wires themselves. i think i will be keepin the 4eat (and necessary components) when we pull this stuff. so i can make up my mind when the time comes, i wanna be done with this by mid june for a couple subaru dealer shows in/around town.

poked around at the ecu/tcm wiring last night, inside the car the wiring looks brand new. outside the car, the wiring is a little dirty but the connectors and such look fine. there is stress on the TPS wiring tho, I think i am going to lengthen it and see if that makes any difference. but im not really going to be able to drive the car around enough to get it to chugalug thru the gears in its current state.:-\

here's the original thread i started back in the day. same ************ off and on. now i may be able to investigate it better, but it'll be tough to try out since the car has no doors, front bumper, fenders, lighting.. LOL. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/20304-2000-outback-cel-oil-temp-light-constantly-flashes-2.html i will tho attemp later on to follow the wiring around and what not. also with the cel that was mentioned in that link. IIRC that also came along with a trans code 31. (which was supposed to go away after the P0122 code is fixed per the subaru fsm for 2000 legacy/outback)
-
let me see if i can find my old thread about the tranny codes etc.
-
you think all the issue/problem with the auto trans is wiring? if its a known issue, i'd love to see some data on it, i've searched here, subaruoutback.org, subaruforester.org etc etc, and couldnt find anything helpful i guess i wouldnt be super opposed to putting in the awd auto trans. a guy nearby has all the mounting brackets required for it. this car doesnt see much offroad since its my daily driver/fun car/only car, it'd be mild offroad at the most. no crawling around on big rocks or anything.
-
oh also.. i was lookin at the engine vs the ea82 and i think there should be like 2" of clearance with the EJ25 between the frame rails. i have to get a measurement from the trans forward yet tho, i was eyeballing that and it looks like it should fit as well. even with the ej adapter plate.
-
only problem with that is there seems to be an issue with the trans, keeps getting the AT oil temp light, (not flashing 16 times), and throws a code for the throttle sensor input low or something, it comes and goes. i've not been able to figure it out, tried 2 different TPS's and cant find a problem with the wiring. :-\ AT Temp light goes flashing, tranny goes to limp mode, has a smell of overheating fluid, i've changed the fluid and filter recently and thought it was fixed but to no avail the problem has returned. i dont really want a auto trans tho. i'd find a 5spd if anything.
