Dual Range 5spd connector pin outs?
xbeerd replied to xbeerd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i was thinking of putting a relay in with the reverse lights and triggering the dash light separately using the indicator light ground. if its paralleled with the switch, that should trip the coil and connect the circuit for the indicator. 'SOUNDS' like it would work. LOL. -
Dual Range 5spd connector pin outs?

yeah, i've already got the neutral switch bypassed via the automatic gear selector unit/connector, i think i might have used the wires on the opposite side of the 6pin plug but im pretty sure they were the gw/g ones. i'll have to lift the car up to check. Looks like you have it wired up so the reverse indicator light on the dash lights up when you go in reverse eh? I was gonna do that too. i guess its not that cool and unique of an idea afterall. haha. i didnt cut out the connector from the donor car for the swap, we wanted to leave the wiring harness in tact so that MilesFox could use it in a future project. I saw your sarcasm was directed at the other guy... so i chuckled. teehee. -

yeah,i kinda went off of the diagram posted in your other thread and i hooked the gw/g wires (from the 6pin) up to the switch. and that seems to be the neutral switch. hmmm. i hate winter (well.. not really!), once i dry out the garage floor and bottom of the car i'll have to crawl under it and see whats up. i disconnected it for the mean time, oh well. reverse lights are overrated! -
So, on the dual range 5spd (from an '89) there are 2 connectors on it, one is a 6 pin and the other is a 2 pin. I was trying to get my reverse lights working and thought i had the correct pins spliced together, HOWEVER the reverse lights come on whenever i am in gear, any gear! anyone have the pinouts for the connections handy? (i searched to no avail)

New video series: The Art of Subaru Maintenance
xbeerd replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this was my car receiving the swap. I agree with you eulogious, I've read up on this stuff alot lately, but the difference in reading vs hands on and now watching makes a world of difference especially for someone who hasnt ever done anything like this before. i gotta say tho.. if it werent for Miles bein local and accomodating. i'd probably still be rollin the 3at. -
Updated for reference.

Im lookin for a part number for a rear output seal for a 5spd d/r trans from a 89 GL. anyone got the info? I searched but couldnt find anything. Would this be the right one... http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?A=NOS13907_0074310010&An=599001+101989+50068+2068009 UPDATE for future inquires: as we found the hard way... the 11636 part number is a seal for the stub axles, the part number for the transmission rear output seal by the driveshaft is NOS 13907 from Napa Should look like this... (hopefully pic works!) 13907 (rubber) and not look like this... 11636 (metal) the 11636 i got was actually like a green color.

i have a 5spd dual range tranny out of a 89GL wagon, would this apply to this transmission as well? edit: looking closer... i am thinking not. nevermind. LOL -
Blown fuse, no dash or exterior lights so....
xbeerd replied to gadberry's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had similar issues with my loyale, when i put a connector together behind the radio that apparently wasnt supposed to go together. :hammer on head: glad you figured it out! -
 (because it was my car )

hmm, from what i recall, the cable just fed thru the hole and curved around to the top side of the trans, pivot of any type that i can remember. we pulled the engine and trans as 2 separate pieces, engine out the top, trans out the bottom, had a new tranny jack we wanted to use. with the tranny jack we had to use the engine hoist to lift of the car by the cross member for clearance to roll it out. worked pretty good.

The AC lines werent TOO much of a hinderance. the whole AC Unit/Alternator bracket can come off the engine and swing up out of the way and be secured with a bungee cord ontop of the drivers side shock tower. the AC could have been removed, but since it works ( and really well i might add) i wanted to keep it. Edit: the AC lines did however make it a little harder to get at the starter and bellhousing bolts from that side if you arent too familiar with where they are by feel, or having somewhat wide hands such as mine. :/ The clutch cable comes out of a previously plugged hole right below the master cylinder on the drivers side.

finished her up today.. just a few minor things to finish up cosmetically (shift boot for instance) and need to hook up the reverse lights and it'll be good to go. the shifter console piece is painted with 3m bedliner, ithought it looked kinda cool, plus... didnt have enough of it to cover any other area to make it worth the effort so nice having a 5spd again!! Gotta give mad props to Miles Fox for helpin me with this project, i sure as hell couldnt have done this by myself! although now i have alot more confidence in what i know about these old subarus after this.

we got my motor pulled out, replaced some seals and what not, gettin ready to swap the trannies tomorrow. yay. when we took a look at it, it seemed the timing belts, pulleys, cam seals etc had been done previously. Miles has also been filming the process and we should have a pretty cool auto-5spd swap video when its done.

man, and i thought I was a grammar nazi! you guys are ruthless! Im in the process of a 5spd d/r swap into my 92 loyale. got the donor trans out today, it was sure a learning experience never really having done anything this involved before. its pretty damn fun!

If you check http://www.crutchfield.com, i think if you look for "E" sized decks, they will not stick out. then go on the internet and find the deck cheaper. I think alot of European micro sized cars have this size
