  1. The guy sent me an email and said the only possible issue with it is that "when some people drive it the synchros grind between first and second" but he said it doesn't happen when he drives so it might just be driving style. Are these grinding synchros common and how sever a problem is it? I mean would I be able to drive it for a while, it would only be a second car for the winter anyways.
  2. What do you guys think of this, the 96 Outback still has the good 2.2l engine right? I'm somewhat of a Subaru noob and I'm looking to get one for the upcoming Massachusetts winter. Alot of the ones I've looked at so far have been kind of crappy. I'm willing to spend about 2800 for the right one. I haven't looked at this one yet, I will be on Monday. http://providence.craigslist.org/cto/1300673109.html
  3. I called the guy and left a message. I'm going to bring up the timing belt and ask him to lower the price and if he doesn't, I'll just pass on it. I think 1600 would be much more fair given the rust and the timing belt being due.
  4. It seems to run really strong, when I drove it it revved up to 5k rpms easily. I was just hoping he would budge on the price but he didn't. He posted it at 2250 and I offered him 1900 but he immediately said no. I already have a reliable car and I would be selling it after I buy this but I don't know if it will pass inspection with the rust holes or not. It was stickered last Nov. I just emailed him and asked him if he would get a new sticker for it, we'll see how that goes.
  5. Greg, does yours have rust holes above the rear wheel wells? Like I said before this one has holes about the size of a golf ball surrounded by a couple inches of rust.
  6. The timing belt/water pump were done at 90k. The clutch and brakes were done last year along with the struts. The tires are good. The alternator has been replaced. The guy is the second owner and has a ton of maintenance records. It runs perfect and as far as I can tell will need nothing except the rust issue needs to be addressed. The guy wouldn't budge on 2150 either. He said because he's maintained it really well. The rust didn't look that bad to me and I looked underneath and it seemed fine. I drove it a ways and it was a strong runner. I'm apprehensive because I don't know much about rust though.
  7. I looked at a 95 legacy wagon 5 spd today with 146k miles. Mechanically, it's in great shape and the guy has all the service records. The only problem is that the shifter is really loose and there is rust over the rear wheel wells. The rust is probably 3.5-4 inches long and 3 inches high. He wants 2150. Here's the link http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/cto/1300058621.html What do you guys think? I know you can't see the rust but there are holes about the size of a golf ball on each side. My buddy says he can fix the rust so is 2150 a good deal?
