i never repack. alot of times, they can blow out the seals because they are overstuffed with grease. They have a measured amount of grease in them. Did the subaru factory workers stuff them with grease when they installed them? surely NTN didn't specify to bugger the seals out and pack their pre-packed bearings. Find out what bearing # is, and find it in NTN or KOYO from a local bearing supply. my GL front wheel bearings cost me 9.50 each oreilly auto quoted me at 27.99 each. and it needs 4.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but if it keeps overheating, you will need to do them again. this time with dealer, cometic, or six star gaskets. Cheap gasket kits are known for refailure. I remember one guy did them on his forester, and used a "nameless" kit and got 5k on it before one failed. Read up on head gasket repair on here. I don't even trust fel-pro. dealer ones are only $90 for the pair...

shiesh, I can do it for cheaper than that here. Is it already EJ swapped I assume?

new cat. pull the y pipe and gut the cat with a jack handle and hammer, shake out the chunks and pull the meshy junk out with a long pair of needle nose pliers. Try again. my wife's forester did the same thing. at first it would just kinda act boggy on hill or when "floored", and quickly got worse. new cat, no problems.

i hear that. I can't bend for long. I know I am only 25 but I had a doctor almost paralyze me during an lumbar puncture and ever since then... anyways I have a heavy foam plumber's knee pad i use. ALOT. If I can ever get time I'm willing to help out. -
i have a good bottom end for an ej22 you can have for $50. I am an hour from hillsboro. I am on the south end of the metroplex. I pulled it from my 90 legacy at around 200k for a blown head gasket. It used water but never really overheated. It ran strong and didn't smoke. I sold the heads to my roommate for his frankenmotor build.

i live south. in midlothian/venus pretty much at the junction of 287 and 67. I have a 97 outback limited, wife has a 1996 LSi, and my roommate has a 1995 Postal wagon right hand drive. My friend taylor has a blue impreza wagon with jdm goodies, my friend jay lives in river oaks and has my old black wagon (avatar). I used to have my digital urban camo GL when I lived in haltom city, but sold it to my brother. He just got his license. We should REALLY have a get together someday. We could include LegacyGT, SL-i, and subaruforester.com. I am not "cool" enough for the impreza crowd, so nasioc is bottom of the list i guess. The more soobs the better but i have had sti owners think my GL was a toyota... -
i must have talked to the guy you sold it to. I am pretty sure I talked to you on the phone about it. you sold it pretty cheap if I remember. It needed axles and carb work... or something. Anyways. I would love to be in on a southcentral meet! Maybe at an OHV park? I hear there is a really sweet one in bridgeport that takes all vehicles
-
booyah! are you the original owner of that car? I met someone in autozone in midlothian one day who had owned that car but can't remember the details. I had the digi urban camo 88 GL. I went new gen (outback) but have many old parts and stuff. I live just outside midlothian and would love to wheel or whatever.

bad move. before you install that engine, go to the dealer and order a new seperator plate and screws and seal it with ultra grey gasket maker. If he removed and resealed the plastic one IT WILL FAIL! The new ones from the dealer are STEEL and about 25 bucks. It's good insurance. also those fail-pro head gaskets are junk. Anyone who "does" subaru engines alot WILL tell you to use dealer, cometic or six star. fel-pro's are junk. by ordering the fail-pro head set of gaskets you save money by cheaping out....

how about broken timing belt? will it run at all with a "dead" miss, or did it just die? i had a ej22 non turbo do this once. stripped the teeth off the timing belt and was holding ONE cylinder's valves open. cant remember which one but i looked at the belt through the "cam caps" only. The belt was still in tact. My friend came over to help me, and shocked me when he said that the belt wasn't turning. That was many years ago and NOW I KNOW. If it is the belt, it is NON interferance, line everything up by the tick marks (NOT THE ARROWS!!!!) replace the belt, idlers and waterpump, and fire it up.
