  1. lololol I love stock photos too, just as long as the gasket is correct I dont care. here is the post with cometic info, that just happened to be the only place I could find to buy it online. I would probobly buy it direct from cometic http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=631527&page=11
  2. the center electrode will receed into the insulator within just a few thousand miles and cause misfires also. Ive bought cars super cheap because of these plugs and misfires. Same story, I just changed the plugs this year and changed the wires last week when it started missing. almost always some jerk at the chain auto stores recommending them to some diy guy.
  3. ha 32 is kinda cold to you guys? I all but refuse to ride if it's under 45. my riding jacket is made for summer riding with a zip in liner for "cold" weather and it bites right through at about 45* even with a hoodie on under and at that point, i start looking like the michelin man. My soob has a great heater lol I will drive that.
  4. he is right. 15lb/ft. just looked at my FSM the other night when we were putting clay's frankie together.
  5. no sweat. I am glad someone at cometic did their home work and made what basically is ej22 gaskets extra thick with a 101mm fire ring (bore)
  6. yeah I am a auto tech school grad and turns out working on scoots is fun. Lots of people ride scooters around here, the laws are convoluted, as in, for 150cc scooters, anything over 50cc requires a class M, but the old law still is applicable that says anything with a FULL pass through is a scooter and doesn't require a class M, and the 50cc stuff is the same way, saying that any steet legal 49cc scooter rider must have a moped endorsement on their DL, but the old law (not superseded) says that one must only have a TXDL class C or higher to operate a 49cc scooter. I have a moped endorsement and ride my 150cc anywhere. LEO's could give a crap less as long as it's tagged and insured. Also, the reason we ride in texas is this 11 month per year riding season!
  7. holy fire hazard batman, you need some heat shielding in there stat! also where did you get that UEL? My outback sounds like a honda and I don't like it. I just upgraded from a 90 lego (avatar) to a 97 outback and am waiting to put a pipe on it until I go UEL
  8. yeah i had one of those chinese/russian kits. they really are tempermental and hit or miss lol. I cannot think of what is worse, the russian engine or the fact that the chinese copied it lol. im a chinese scooter mechanic 40 hours a week. :-\
  9. I really don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but if it can pass emissions, have subaru known longevity, and all be fine and dandy, don't you think the engineers would have simply advanced the timing on the cams? hmmmm. let me know when you burn a hole in a piston, or burn a valve. the computer cannot tune out the advanced cam timing, and can only tune out so much advanced spark timing. Do you know what spark knock or lean burn condition is? both lean engines and super advanced timing make GOBS of power, til something fails. save this advice for hondatech. they make adjustable cam gears so anyone can break their honda engines. check ebay.
  10. yeah there is enough coolant flow even though they don't match perfect. Cometic has addressed this part # h1631spk040s http://autoplicity.com/products/2742825-cometic-h1631spk040s-cometic-head-gasket.aspx
  11. those timing belts (factory belts) are rated for 52,500 miles or 84 490.56km. If they are cheap, they won't always last that long. also the cold can make them brittle near the end of their life span.
  12. I wish my scooter could get me to work, but i am 40 miles from work, and about 25 of that has no service road, so it would take me 2 hours to worm through the back streets. when one of our cars are down, my wife drives the ford truck. she only drives 11 miles to work or school.
  13. unless I am doing full megasquirt, and race tune, I leave most of that stuff to the million dollar engineers at fuji heavy industries. I don't mind delta cams, but they aren't meant for everyone. there is lots of r&d in those cams too.
  14. it could be leaking from the holes in the tank where the fuel sending unit or alt pickup bolt down. Remove your back seat and cargo floor and pull up the "gold" colored panels ( 4 screws on 1, and 3 screws on the other) and you will be able to see both of the pickups. If it looks like its seeping, lightly tighten the bolts to the tank, if that doesn't work, maybe a gasket split.if it did, it can be had at the dealer relatively cheap (alot cheaper than a vehicle fire) all it takes is one chance jerk wad to throw a cigarette butt out the window and have it bounce wrong under your car and up she goes... get that fixed please.
  15. round here we call that the "b!tch nut" lol. I don't put it back on my own cars... i know i'd rather chew off my own arm that get that nut twice.
  16. there is talk out there about the fel-pro's having repeat failures. I won't use them. Why would Fuji undercut their own gaskets? I think they are a superceded gasket that subaru redesigned. even if the coating is different, it could cause refailure. the fel-pros are 39.99 each, the dealer here charges 49 each and 1stsubaruparts.com sells them for 36.61 (?) plus shipping and if you buy the sep plate at the same time, it only comes out to about 110 shipped. good peace of mind if you ask me.
  17. sounds like head gaskets to me. my wife's Legacy LSi blew them at 158k, my outback blew them at 117k. sounds like at 160k she has had a good run and needs head gaskets to me. although, go with what General Disorder said and give it a shot first, just don't let that sucker overheat much, or else you are looking at a new engine. The bottom end bearings don't do well with overheating on the 2.5's if you do all the work yourself, you can get the gaskets and seperator plate replacement from a local dealer, or 1stsubaruparts.com, and get all other associated gaskets, thermostat, timing belt and idlers (if you have never replaced them DO SO NOW if you do this work) water pump, valve cover gaskets, machine work for the heads all inclusive for about $500. I just did the math yesterday
  18. The guy must have sold him SOHC gaskets then, because I am looking at my dealer gaskets and the one's that he got, and they are not the same.
  19. Haha its funny, he didn't. he paid $4 more total for them. I ordered mine from 1stsubaruparts.com for 36 and change each, and he paid 38 and change for them from worldpac. He didn't want to wait for the shipping. The guy that sold them to him was at autoscience. http://www.dallassubarurepair.com. told him they were the same specs as the dealer ones. LOL. I could see they were NOT. they weren't riveted, they were just "stamped" together.
  20. SO... clay, my roommate decided to buy a EJ25D block off of me for his postal wagon and build a frankie. He bought his head gaskets from World-Pac, contrary to my advice and they are supposed to fit the 2.5 engine. He bolted everything together tonight and torqued the heads by spec and now the motor won't roll over. It can be turned about 170* and then bumps to a stop. the cams were set to their marks before they were bolted on so we are sure the valves haven't interfered. any help on what is going on? I am certain it is the gasket's fault, but want to make sure before we pull the heads off and try again.
  21. I find that using 15w-40, my high mile engines run quieter and smoother. If I get a ticky lifter, I dump in a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil and that hasn't failed me yet. My wife's car has a junk yard 160k mile single port ej22 in it and shortly after installing it, a lifter went APE $H!T. I thought it threw a rod bearing until I listened around and found it was coming from the passenger side valve cover. dumped in a QUART of marvel mystery oil and drove it 100 miles and it was all better
  22. im on that boat too +1. do all that stuff. you will hate it later if you do not.
  23. too bad your not down here in tx. i have a ej22 block with 205k on it. doesn't smoke, and ran dang good until I blew a HG on it, and never over heated it, just kept it full of water. It was in my 5 spd 90 lego. I dropped in a junkyard ej22 with 150k. I would give you that block for $50 and help you do the head swap for beer! I am thinking about tossing my left over ej25 heads on it for a boost in flow, and drop in compression ratio and turboing it... hmmm decisions decisions
