  1. i probably wouldn't run rotella with lucas, but I guess half of a quart won't really hurt it. I run Rotella 15w-40 with WIX filters on all my 100k Plus subies. It shut up the forester's piston slap, and It NEVER went away before then. It did it cold, warm or hot before the rotella. My wife bought a Legacy LSi last month, had new "valvoline" 5w-30 from some lube shop, and was 1 qt low when we got it. I added a quart of rotella to it and It shut up the slap on that beast too! EDIT, I also live in TEXAS. A BAWLS COLD winter here is 17*... ABOVE 0!
  2. when I used to put my subies on the lift, I used the under body "subframe" that is stamped into the pan past the pinch weld up front, and the rear trailing arm mounts. never crushed anything or slipped
  3. that MMO is a detergent, and will knock all kinds of junk loose in the engine, so be sure to change your oil in about 100 miles
  4. Got out yesterday and snatched up 2 "low mileage" ej22's from picknpull. they had a coupon half off entire purchase sale and there were two that were WRECKED. I got a 93 with 165k rear ended and blown out front tire, and a 96 sedan side impact for under 200 before "core" charges. Stupid junkyard charging cores...
  5. I just bought my wife a 96 LSi and it is definitely a 2.5. dont trust the hood, if it's 2.2 it will most likely have single overhead cams (one cam per head) if it's an original 2.5, it will be dual over head cams (two cams per head) with the spark plugs down the CENTER of the valve cover. If it's a 2.5, do the block test like others have said, and if it fails, you will have to do the head gaskets and might as well replace the water pump, thermostat(dealer or stant XACTSTAT only, "OEM quality" chain store labeling is a lie), and hoses. Once you change the head gaskets, you won't want to ever have to do them again so be preventative and replace the stuff that is likely to fail and make it overheat again
  6. 07 of 1997 and up 2.2's are interference. Could have bent the valves.... Hope not. Double check you didn't line up the cam timing using the arrows. its the little tick mark. Even if the motor is done, just source one from a junk yard and slap it in or step it up and slap in a phase 2 2.5
  7. reverse is particularly hard to get in if the clutch needs adjustment +1 on the adjustment. also alot of shops try to do the pads, but find the calipers are "stuck" but they don't even know to twist the pistons in. they just throw a "c" clamp on them and say they are stuck and need replacement:rolleyes:. It's pretty rare to need a caliper replaced, much less both fronts.
  8. So is that that stinky rump roast grease that slings everywhere when the boot splodes!
  9. fuel life depends on where you are... down here in texas where ALL of our gas contains corn juice (ethanol) the gas is only rated for 90 days :-\. If your gas is ethanol free, it will last up to 4 times longer. Biggest problem with ethanol is that it is hydroscopic (blends with water) and it blends with fuel. It holds water to itself and oxidizes the fuel faster... I know a lot of northern states that have ethanol in the low grade, but the premiums dont. Lucky barsteds
  10. 2012 impreza with the GDI FB20 gets 36 Hwy Looked at it today. I like it
  11. drug home a $400 special... WHOO HOO! P.O. Hit something on the passenger side and trashed the fender, control arm and strut. I thought she was a flipper, but my wife likes it better than the forester (i can see it in her eyes... :-\) It must be the sunroof... Forester soon to be for sale! Also overheated my legacy. Driving home from work, pulled into day care and heard it boiling. I let it cool and checked the water and it was full. guess my thermostat is stuck, or my cheap water pump broke...
  12. none of us know anything because renob said so... and yes a 2.5l does gain HP when swapping on 2.2l heads. Did this to a 2.5 that went interference but didn't trash the pistons and it was a substantial (maybe 20+hp) difference. 2.2 heads are cheap and plentiful down here in texas. I am not here to get in a pissing match but i found the thread and on page 3 matt monson said himself that it makes the ej25 go from 9.7:1 to over 11:1. THAT makes power, and its not icing on the cake. here is the link if you don't believe me. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=631527&page=3
  13. Then why swap the heads on the 2.5? the 2.2 heads don't flow as well... but make up for it with a smaller combustion chamber than the 2.5 heads thus increasing the compression ratio.
  14. the whole point of the franken motor is to bring the comp ratio up, ej22's come with less dish in the pistons. I would assume that the piston will interfere with the valves just because of the "taller" piston
  15. fabreze auto. I buy it at wal-mart. It will even take out the "windows left down in the rain funk" that smells like sweaty feet. Love the stuff, leaves a fresh scent that is kinda manly, not like the foofy house fabreze. My wife even likes it in the car.
  16. I was reading a discussion a while back where someone said that the fel pro MLS gaskets had a fuji "boomerang" stamp on the corner tab next to a rivet. It's been a while though
  17. well i am not sure but some subaru engines use timing marks from tdc and some have timing marks at center bore. I wouldn't swap any timing components unless I swapped all components, including crank sprocket, and use the marks on the set to set it all up
  18. were they the fel pro metal 3-4 layer or were they the composite shiny paper junk? if they are the metal ones, i have heard talk that they are made by fuji... I could be wrong. If they are the composite, I wouldn't drive the car for fear of trashing my new engine/$700 heads...
  19. there are arrows and there are tick marks. use the tick marks. make sure you are not comparing the arrows. They confuse people alot
  20. rewatch that video. double check make sure you rotate engine 360* between belts. skip to about 6:00 of the video to be sure when you say that the lasher and rocker is new, do you mean the valve lash adjuster? if so they should have been soaked and pumped up. Try cranking on it some more maybe they will pump up.
  21. chassis codes for orig imprezas. Our legacy is a bj with low roof or bf with raised (touring) roof. you definately need to modify your stock top hats to use them so they won't knock the fronts bolt straight in NO mods
