i probably wouldn't run rotella with lucas, but I guess half of a quart won't really hurt it. I run Rotella 15w-40 with WIX filters on all my 100k Plus subies. It shut up the forester's piston slap, and It NEVER went away before then. It did it cold, warm or hot before the rotella. My wife bought a Legacy LSi last month, had new "valvoline" 5w-30 from some lube shop, and was 1 qt low when we got it. I added a quart of rotella to it and It shut up the slap on that beast too! EDIT, I also live in TEXAS. A BAWLS COLD winter here is 17*... ABOVE 0!

Got out yesterday and snatched up 2 "low mileage" ej22's from picknpull. they had a coupon half off entire purchase sale and there were two that were WRECKED. I got a 93 with 165k rear ended and blown out front tire, and a 96 sedan side impact for under 200 before "core" charges. Stupid junkyard charging cores...

I just bought my wife a 96 LSi and it is definitely a 2.5. dont trust the hood, if it's 2.2 it will most likely have single overhead cams (one cam per head) if it's an original 2.5, it will be dual over head cams (two cams per head) with the spark plugs down the CENTER of the valve cover. If it's a 2.5, do the block test like others have said, and if it fails, you will have to do the head gaskets and might as well replace the water pump, thermostat(dealer or stant XACTSTAT only, "OEM quality" chain store labeling is a lie), and hoses. Once you change the head gaskets, you won't want to ever have to do them again so be preventative and replace the stuff that is likely to fail and make it overheat again

Downed Sooby!

07 of 1997 and up 2.2's are interference. Could have bent the valves.... Hope not. Double check you didn't line up the cam timing using the arrows. its the little tick mark. Even if the motor is done, just source one from a junk yard and slap it in or step it up and slap in a phase 2 2.5 -
Have a serious dilemma, need some input

reverse is particularly hard to get in if the clutch needs adjustment +1 on the adjustment. also alot of shops try to do the pads, but find the calipers are "stuck" but they don't even know to twist the pistons in. they just throw a "c" clamp on them and say they are stuck and need replacement:rolleyes:. It's pretty rare to need a caliper replaced, much less both fronts. -
How old is too old for gas?
Ricearu replied to The FNG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
fuel life depends on where you are... down here in texas where ALL of our gas contains corn juice (ethanol) the gas is only rated for 90 days :-\. If your gas is ethanol free, it will last up to 4 times longer. Biggest problem with ethanol is that it is hydroscopic (blends with water) and it blends with fuel. It holds water to itself and oxidizes the fuel faster... I know a lot of northern states that have ethanol in the low grade, but the premiums dont. Lucky barsteds -
drug home a $400 special... WHOO HOO! P.O. Hit something on the passenger side and trashed the fender, control arm and strut. I thought she was a flipper, but my wife likes it better than the forester (i can see it in her eyes... :-\) It must be the sunroof... Forester soon to be for sale! Also overheated my legacy. Driving home from work, pulled into day care and heard it boiling. I let it cool and checked the water and it was full. guess my thermostat is stuck, or my cheap water pump broke...

none of us know anything because renob said so... and yes a 2.5l does gain HP when swapping on 2.2l heads. Did this to a 2.5 that went interference but didn't trash the pistons and it was a substantial (maybe 20+hp) difference. 2.2 heads are cheap and plentiful down here in texas. I am not here to get in a pissing match but i found the thread and on page 3 matt monson said himself that it makes the ej25 go from 9.7:1 to over 11:1. THAT makes power, and its not icing on the cake. here is the link if you don't believe me. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=631527&page=3

rewatch that video. double check make sure you rotate engine 360* between belts. skip to about 6:00 of the video to be sure when you say that the lasher and rocker is new, do you mean the valve lash adjuster? if so they should have been soaked and pumped up. Try cranking on it some more maybe they will pump up.
