  1. he knows what he is talking about but sometimes you need a grain of salt to take his advice because its straightforward and nobody wants to hear it that way. Welcome to the board and glad you jumped right in and found the problem. If i get a "sit" car or beat old car, I usually do an oil change with fresh oil (cheap oil) and substitute a quart for atf. don't get the atf+, its friction modified. Atf is a good cleaner. I will let her run for 5-10 minutes, depending if hydro lifters are still tapping or not. then change the oil to the good stuff. never let me down and with that quart of trans fluid in there, it comes out NASTY after just a few short minutes. ATF is an agressive cleaner without losing all oiling capacity. my current lego 2.2 had stuck lifters, it wasn't started for 2 years
  2. i second that... wwhh whha aaa aaa tttt ttthh thhh ee hhhee lllllll lllll is shhaa kiinggg sooo bad dddd dddd
  3. late carb'd models sold in CALIFORNIA (will say federal or california under hood) had computer controlled carbs that had O2 sensor. look at your underhood placard and see if it is conforms to 1986 california or federal emissions standards
  4. you shouldn't take the ez out on this. I would make the dealer FIX IT FOR FREE for not changing the IDLERS when they did the timing belt. ANY DEALER SHOULD KNOW THIS AND IT'S NEGLEGANCE!!! (as long as you didn't opt out of the idlers) and if said dealer had to do my headgaskets TWICE, I would never go there again. I would take it to ANOTHER DEALER I'm sorry this happened and I hate to see non mechanically oriented people get RAPED by dealers... have a lawyer draw up papers on them. you won't even need to go to court. they will get scared and do it. also get ahold of subaru of america. they don't play with dealers. 1-800-SUBARU3
  5. if you leave the catalytic converter in place, It provides just about any backpressure the engine needs.
  6. Tinted my windows 20% all the way around and ordered a black can muffler off ebay. I love UEL manifolds. Crappy mufflers still sound good
  7. they may have to be redone because they used fel-pro's. make sure you use subaru dealer Multi Layer Steel gaskets. price is fair and worth it in the long run!
  8. Just throw a Weber on it! Someone had to say it. I hate Hitachi carbs...
  9. HOLY FRIGGEN DIAMOND PLATE BATMAN! BTW, TW is looking good
  10. mine was doing that. even more so on right hand turns. my fuel pump was yowling at the top of it's lungs for like a week, then last weekend she stopped working altogether. It's got a Walbro 255 in it now!
  11. just get a true bar and check the block, then have the heads decked, use dealer gaskets and headbolts if yours are stretched. i don't bother with chain parts for engine internal stuff. valve cover gaskets whatever ok, but no headgaskets/intake gaskets etc.
  12. ive rebuilt a few of those 5 speeds. they truely are paper machee. If it wasn't for my perfomance mindset, i would drive one auto looks ok though
  13. I love our fozzy. It handles good, is comfy and roomy. I would keep it and sell that chevy astro-van. Where you from? I'm out by midlothian. what dealer did you take it to, subaru of plano? that's where I get all my parts from.
  14. my 90 leggy with 2.2 gets about 25. 26 on a good day. bad FPR would probobly make your mileage more like 17-18. more likely that a few mpgs could be attributed to sensors fatiguing, like lazy O2 sensor or dirty maf, or even a "dead" spot in the tps at cruising position (my gl did that).
  15. darn. what about the panel under the steering wheel that covers the column and wiring. mine is hot glued in 4 pieces and still staberific! if the grey one is nice, i can make it blue with interior paint.
  16. i put a turbo hood on my 93 with no problems, I tried to put my facelift front end on my 90 and the headlight and grille holes are misaligned. Too bad you aren't closer i would trade you straight up because this 90's face has grown on me. and i want a hoodscoop dangit
  17. Sounds like a texas uhaul install. (used to work for uhaul and had to fix alot of wiring under warranty by a few goomba's that used ttaps from the kits. I always cut back the insulation and soldered them in, then taped over very orderly. NEVER had any returns.
  18. My foz has one! First I had ever seen. It was part of the OUTDOOR package 2 on mine. also came with front push bar. which is also cool as he!! It had the gauge, "brush guard" and forester logo? they are really rare at $662 for the package...
  19. double up on the duplicolor wheel silver. it's really tough and meant for aluminum and looks super good. paint it wheel silver, then clear it.
  20. nobody has put bigger tires on a foz with stock struts. it's got 195/60-16's now. Think it will fit 215/75-16's
  21. +1 I use 15w-40 Rotella in any of my engines over 100k or so. It quieted piston slap in the foz ej25d even. my lifters got quiet in both the GL and the 90 leg ej22 been doing it for many years and it's CHEAP. its 12.50 a gallon at walmart, sometimes it goes on sale at oreilly's for 9.99 a gallon. I usually buy 6 or so.
