Quick and dirty fix for a sloppy shift linkage
Ricearu replied to moped's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I changed the bolts out to a 1/4", then shoved a chunk of 5/16 fuel hose in there, then shoved the bolts in. That was a 5 spd, don't know the difference -

Why do the EA82 heads suffer from bridge cracks?
Ricearu replied to nncoolg's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
just make sure there is not an interfering oil galley -
Or if you are brave, redrill import pickup 6 lugs, they are 6 on 140, knock out two studs from a spare hub, put lugs on the remaining 2, tighten, then drill through the hub into the wheels.

wont that break the output shaft gear or is that just the 4spds?

DUDE! They even give a scooter size so I can dump em in my scoot tires. Those damn things are never balanced.

Engine stalls (Subaru Justy 1993)
Ricearu replied to igersh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It sounds like it might be fuel pump related also, check the small (12v) wires coming from the distributor, sometimes they can have corrosion on them -
Mine drops 1/8" with the blinker blinks

'82 Brat GL exhaust question ...
Ricearu replied to clunkerbob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They are still red, and they still rock. I have a TOPSPEED PRO1 exhaust pipe on mine and it sounds sweet without having a whole lot of resonance, I really like it. -

while you are in custom fab/trans town, look into an Infinity J30 rear end. They are all LSD factory. Just have to find axles and build a mount point. -

Y it together and run 2 1/4 (-+) id back from there, no need for expansion chamber due to the bank fire that our cars have. Just make sure your muffler guy notches the tubing correctly, somtimes they will just beat the pipe to a shape and booger weld it on there... that makes for terrible flow. Also if you want a little more performance, go with a free flowing muffler, like a straight through or simi straight through. Dont bother with no-names, get a cherry bomb or similar. -
Oh ok. I don't like to. I blew my front cv to pieces this way. It binded up on me while pulling into a parking spot, tried to back up some and BANG. Dead front axle. My axle was clicking already so that is the root of my problem. I just don't like it when I take a tight turn and my car stops on its own. Don't get me wrong GD, I really do trust your judgement.

86 EA82 Wagon, no start. Plz Help.
Ricearu replied to Ricearu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks GD! You are the MAN! stupid haynes manual only make a MENTION of the stupid thing. -
NOOOOOOO!!!!! you will break something (ie. axle, trans ect.) The manual states to NEVER engage 4wd while on dry pavement. Yes you could check it by lifting the car off the ground and engaging 4wd. Be careful not to rock it off the lift or something though. Also, disengage before you drive it anywhere Our cars don't have a center differential, therefore they are prone to driveline wind up. The car will not disengage from 4wd if it is wound up. Also, if you are preparing for 4wd driving, make sure ALL your tires are the SAME SIZE and similar wear. An oddball tire will cause wind up and tire chirp/stuck in 4wd.

No ecu. It is an origional texas car. does anyone know where the revolution sensor is? When I crank it the tach does bounce, so I know its got signal to tach. The owner has a NON california, carb'd parts car that I can take it off of IF I knew where it was located... -
The procedure is... Put the driver side belt on, then rotate the crankshaft 360*, then put the passenger on with the mark to the notch in the cover(pointed up).

Dude that is a freakin sweet brat, I would look into a S13 chassis Nissan 240sx transmission. They are a DIME per dozen at the local wrecking yards and pretty tough. A friend of mine has a 240 and has the SR20DET Blacktop (240HP) through the stock (non-turbo) transmission and it holds up well. I think they might break if you exceed 300HP, but without a STI engine, you don't have to worry too much about that! Also, look into doing the Impreza GC8 Hub/spindle conversion while you are at it, because the brakes are better (expecially for competition) and you can get name brand performance suspension components for it. Suberdave runs TIEN's for an 05+ legacy with EDFC's. Check out his site! http://www.suberdave.com/subaru/Leone/flex/index.htm I would like to someday build a drift wagon to compete in some drift events for fun. -
Don't replace the boots. It is likely the grease is already contaminated and the axles won't last even if you replace the boots. Get yourself 1 lifetime axle, then when the other goes out(original), clean it up and warrantee it out:lol:
