possible old brat parts source
operose replied to operose's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
yes, I'm incredibly upstate.... you _DO_ need to get up here, though, as we have the best camping, hiking, and fishing(not really anymore) for a long ways!!! adirondack mountains, according to my geology major friend, are the oldest mountains in north america, and were caused not by plates ramming into each other, but by huge magma pools underground causing pressure and making the ground rise up to the sky! they're still growing 3mm / year but anyway, enough of the rambling... I'll let you know if it looks good or is useless... -
Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll........... I was at work today, and my brother's girlfriend sends me an IM saying "did your brother tell you what we found back in the woods at my dad's house?" and, of course, my brother did not tell me what they found. her response was "a subaru brat I never knew was there! dad said it was from the late '70's and used to be my uncles" of course my ears perked at this point... but the reason it's only a possible parts source, is that she said it's really rusty, and there's a tree growing up through the bed. my high school graduation is tomorrow, so I can't look at it then, and I work all weekend. post parts requests and hopefully I'll be going to look at it early next week to see what's left

Need some help on a tranny swap
operose replied to calebz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in the middle of a "taking-forever" tranny swap as well... car happens to be an hour away from where I live and work.. doesn't give me much time to work on it. I was wondering what I was going to do if'n there weren't none-o-them good 'ole boys around to help me muscle that sucker out of/in there -
holy crap... they sell 600HP 2.5L's ....

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=21895 check out the pics of that legacy... and then look at the car in the background! and then read this!
-
these bolts are used on a lot of things. generally they are used to prevent theft and/or tampering that could result in a liability suit. you can buy the bits at most hardware stores but you might need to order them online like I did if you need the real small head ones

miles... 86subaru and I are trying to arrange a car trade, but he's in ohio and I'm in upstate new york. since you're coming from the direction of ohio, towards new york, and then probably back, do you think it would maybe be possible to tow his brat to me in new york and then tow my legacy to him in ohio on your way back? there would be money involved for compensation

-

Help with vague car trouble in Mexico!!
operose replied to dbenzmaine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sorry if this doesn't help, but where are you in NY and where are you going in alaska? -
wouldn't the wheel base still be 4 inches wider with a 5-lug swap?
-
why? there are people with er27's and 5 lug swaps... that seems much easier than taking the pan of an xt6 and welding a brat body to it...

paint ideas for Hass's XT (Dave)

doesn't look too bad, but I guess it depends on his personality.. I wouldn't paint that on my car, but I'd drive a car that had that painted on it I plan on "nightrider"ing my xt6... it's black right now.. will be REALLY black when I'm done with it, and hopefully it'll look real nice.. my gf brought home some bumper stickers and she's like "I got you some bumper stickers for your car!" my immediate response was "oh HELLLLLL NO! there will be NO bumper stickers on my car!!!@*)&@#%(%&*()@#$" sorry, that had almost nothing to do with your post -
I had an '88 xt6 2wd auto that would usually only use 2 and 3, but not 1... but on those days when 1st gear was working, you could smoke the tires!! honestly, I think these trannies are crap. it probably needs to be replaced, but a filter/fluid change might do the trick, you never know... there's also duty solenoids that control shifting I think.. might wanna get someone to scan the 4eat section of the FSM, although it's the most confusing crap I've ever waded through

yeah I'd like some dyno sheets on this one!!!

emission stuff's getting more strict here in NY as well.... seems like they only want you to drive brand new cars, and once the o2 sensor goes bad, buy a new(er) car -
doorstop?
