I am stuck with the EA82t unless I want to move to a modified class.
-
Due to the class I have chosen to race in I am stuck with the EA82t. Because of this I am planning to build more or less the strongest one ever. I plan to address this engines weakest points and push it to the limits of the turbos capability. The first two issues are headgasket and pistons. The headgaskets are a known failure point and I think "O" ringing the block will go a long way to curing this. Second pistons the factory pistons are cast and known to break ring lands I will try to locate forged replacements to solve this problem. Due to the rules I cannot port the heads more than 1" into the ports so I will try improving the breathing with cams. I will look and see if I can polish the combustion chambers. My goals are probably unreachable but I hope to near 200hp with this hated engine.

tried to blow mine up today. A water hose popped off (never saw a clamp was missing been racing this for about a year without it hmmmm) dumped all the coolant on the freeway. She got really hot and I limped her home since it was 3 blocks or so and set about cooling her off. 30 minutes then 10 litres of water later she was cooler. I replaced the hose and bought new clamps. I ran her for about 45 min in the driveway looking for telltale signs of disaster and ........... nothing I think she survived. To be safe I'm driving the Scaturd for the rest of the week and will check the suby out more thoroughly this weekend.

in the EA series the 2wd struts are much shorter than the 4wd struts. For a legacy I'd look at early wrx or the like.

New tires for 93 Loyale - Help with size
vagen replied to __aw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The proper size tire is one that has the right diameter. On most EA82 cars that is 23.2" this matches up with 185/70/13 195/60/14 and 205/50/15. Look at the diameter of the tires that are listed on the door and match that you should be able to find what you need this way. -
I guess its time to start looking for lugs then

has anyone re-tapered the lug holes to use standard conical lugs?

Larger radiator for my EA82T?
vagen replied to Steve W.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
early S-10 v6 radiators are a good fit -
in an effort to gain overall track width I am looking for some 1/2" wheel spacers but I don't know where to start. Any one have any ideas?

rule of thumb (not always true but usually is) when your front control arms are flat you are as low as you want to go. this keeps the roll center on the right side of CG.

3-door leak into rear compartmnets
vagen replied to kayakertom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
look at what you would suspect. Washer filler, tail lights, washer nozzle, even license plate bolt holes. anything that breaches the metal is a potential leak -
