Brat +Towbar = wrong direction!
geo. replied to freeldr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You should have two safety chains from the Towed to the Tower's hitch (or bumper or frame). Maybe you have those too tight such that it keeps the tow bar from turning the same direction as much as it needs to (so the Brat tows to the outside of the curve). P.S. When you seriously tow (a distance and at speed) be sure and protect the towed windshield with a cover or you will likely throw a rock thru it from the towing vehicle. Been there done that. Geo. -
here is the sales figures: http://www.cars101.com/subaru_archives.html that I was looking for.

Who has a link that shows total # of Subys sold by model and year? Either there was significant yearly differences or some years were more durable?

True gives the same radius and 1/2" less width on the sidewall. But I am hoping that 185/70R14 will fit (gives same sidewall/width and 1/2" more of radius).

I bought 14” pugs with 205/70R14 studded snows. They absolutely won’t clear the fender on my 85 BRAT (stock tire 185/70R13. I neither want to roll the fender edge nor add a lift kit. The “tire size calculator” http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html show a sidewall difference of +0.5” and a radius diff of +1.0 for these two. Now a 195/60R14 would have a near perfect fit sidewall diff of –0.5” and radius diff of 0”. QUESTION: Surely 185/70R14’s will clear at sidewall diff 0.0” and radius diff of +0.5”. Will pretty much any size tire with a radius diff of no more than +0.6” regardless of the sidewalls fit? And which size oversize tire would look the nicest on these pugs (and still fit my BRAT)? I’m talking year around non-snow tire.

Maybe I have not been lucky. beat others to the 14" peugeot wheels. They have 205/70 R14 studded snows. My 85 Brat has 185/70/R13. turning the wheels in causes a major rub on fender problem. Question [1] If I do the 1" gain on the strut adjustment, will that be sufficient? Or should I go to a lift kit and if so how must lift do I need? Question [2] If I throw away the 205/70 R14 tires, what tire should I mount that will guarantee to clear without a lift kit? And I don't like those real low profile tires. I would hate to discard the really good used tires. But lets see what you say the options are. If you suggest a new different tire size to clear the fronts, how ugly or stupid would it be to try and wear out these current snows on the back (where clearance is no problem)? Or is it an oxymoron that fronts and rears should be the same size (at least when 4WD is engaged)? thx Geo.

Do any of the Japanese engine replacement importers ever have an EA81 engine? Two part question Is there someone named Abraham Garcia at "SeaTac"(Washington) that has allegedly done such replacements? thx geo.

I am a newbie and just got a Brat. But I did read all the resistor and blower threads/posts, and this is where I am at. A mouse had built a nest in the duct blocking the motor and the heater fuses were blown. I cleaned out the nest and hoped the green feces was chewed felt insulation and not chewed wiring (they do that too). There is absolutely no place the resistor could be/could have been in the housing. I replaced the blower from an 85 or 86 wagon template didn't match. I put in 3 new bolts instead of screws. I now have 2 speed heat.... I think the resistor is missing because I can see two screw holes about the right pattern for the resistor I couldn't get off that wagon. But the screw patten is on the sidewall. I can also see the 4 wire blank white connector where I think it went. AM I RIGHT ON THIS? What should the resistor look like and where does it go?

I don't understand why I cannot pull my subaru on a tow dolly. It is a 1985 BRAT With the manual transmission in neutral and the 4WD not engaged won't it be OK. We are only talking 10 miles or so. towing. your thoughts thx
