  1. I did some research when I was looking to run cable to the back of my truck to run my trailer winch. I was surprised at how big it needed to be. Granted, my truck is much longer than your Suby, but 4 ga probably won't do, and ground to frame definitely won't suffice. Just my two cents. Dan

  5. Mine were out of a 99 Escort GT. They look very similar to the ones in this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1103035&postcount=6 Elongate the rear holes just a smidge, and the frame rails from your seats will bolt right up. What I meant by "one lever" operation; If I remember right, my original hatch seats had one lever on the passenger side seat that allowed the rear passenger to both fold the seat, and slide it forward. Possibly operated with your foot? The Escort seats would require someone to operate the lever in the front of the seat to slide it forward. Only a problem if you need to get out in a hurry........:-p Dan
  6. I'm glad I read all the way to the end to find you came to this conclusion. I had a trailer very similar to this one (73 model, 15ft,) and the construction techniques used back in the day made it deceptively heavy. Mine came in around 2500 on the scale. I towed it with a Ford Bronco, and it was unstable at best, and sometimes downright scary. Young and dumb, I had to scare the hell out of myself a few times before I bought something more suited to towing. A heavy, single axle trailer, with a light, short wheel base tow vehicle is a recipe for disaster. Dan
  7. I put Escort GT seats in my hatch and they work fine. For the ease of installation, not having single lever slide action is a good trade. Dan

  11. I had to take the motor mounts loose and jack the engine a little to get the angle right. Good luck. Dan

  13. I suppose it depends on your definition of trouble. Elongating one hole and straight bolting them in seemed worthwhile. Fabricating something was both beyond my ability, and beyond the limits of effort I wanted to put forth. And it was the best $60 I ever spent..... Dan

  15. That only applies to the areas south of Oregon Inlet under the control of the park service. Where he is planning on going has no such restrictions. Dan
  16. According to Google maps, NC 64 will carry you straight across to Kitty Hawk. From there it's straight north to Corrolla, where you get on the beach to drive the rest of the way to Carova. Says 5.5 hours, but I don't know about that. There is NOTHING around. Just cottages and the beach. Whatever you need will need to be brought with you, as the closest store is all the way back in Corrolla. Dan
  17. Carova Beach is still free, as it doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service (NPS.) Anything south of Oregon Inlet will require a pass. Unfortunately even if you have a pass, there is no guarantee the part of the beach you want to visit will be open. All depends on where mama turtle and mama piping plover decided to lay her eggs. Carova can get pretty wild at times due to the isolation, but it's a really nice bunch of folks. Enjoy your time down there. Dan

  20. I did some experimenting, and learned the hard way that stock 13's made it very easy to get high centered if you weren't paying attention. It was doable, but a little more challenging then I wanted to deal with. I got lucky and found some 14" wagon wheels from a Dodge D50. 195/75's fit with no rub, and give me that little bit of extra clearance to go wherever I want without issue. I played with the air pressure and figured out 15psi was as high as I could get away with. Works on the beach, and didn't detract from the drivability (much.)
