Right on! Welcome to the forum! First, that is NOT an EJ18, it's an EA82 which is a 1.8, but not an EJ series engine. Second, the AC probably isn't working very well, there is no belt on the compressor.... :-p MAke sure you check the oil every time you fill it up with gas for a while, until you get a feel for how much consumption you're dealing with. Oh and the coolant too... AMHIK.... Spencer

1993 Loyale with ONLY 9k miles!!

Most of them I've seen DO have the volt/oil pressure gauges. Guess that makes this one even MORE rare.... -

Ummm, maybe you have the plug wires in the correct order, but advanced or retarded one set. Unlikely, but hey, it's possible........ -

WIRES!?!?!? Really???? I'd like to see a pic of these mounted on a subaru... Hopefully with fully reversed offset, stretched tires, and Ice-T in the driver seat...... -

No flame here. That's great, nice looking welds too. I'm chalking it up as a WIN! -

My cousin has done that on several sets and it looks cleaner, although some tire shops still won't touch them. And, for people like myself, who also have a Toyota or 2 in the fleet... Well, I like to have wheel options.... -
They are different...... End of story......

Installed the flywheel and clutch to the engine today. Hope to have the engine installed into the engine bay by the end of this weekend. Here's to minor progress! This is definitely a long drawn out process.......

I have a Speedglas, had it for bout 4 years now. It's a high-end model, think i spent more than $400 on it. It's been used at home, and on the job. I've used the hell out of it and it still works fantastic. If I ever have to do it again, I'll probly buy another one. Or, an Optrel, they are very nice too, and have a grind option, which could be quite useful.....
-
I did that too. Makes for a cleaner looking install too.

Made some forward progress today. Changed my DOJ's back to 25 spline to work w/ the EJ trans. Installed a stock 4.11 legacy trans and matching open diff. This will have to suffice to get it on the road until my 4.44 trans is built and I get around to making a 4.44 CLSD diff. Put in the XT6 trans x-member w/ legacy center section which makes the EJ trans swap pretty straight forward. Took a measurement for my driveline. Still undecided on modifying my 2-piece or having a 1-piece made up. Also looked at linkage, kinda. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, still plenty to do before the linkage is holding me up.... Also, got some new wheels, I think the silver looks good. I usually am the guy who paints ALL wheels black, but after bout an hour of seeing these on there it grew on me and I think I'll live with it.... For a while anyhow.... And, the amber corners are gonna go, time for a slight facelift. PICS! Got it in the garage... Up on stands... Change DOJ's... XT6/Legacy trans x-member... 4.11 trans installed... Back on all 4's with the 6 spokes...
-
XT6, I believe it was designated an "ER" making it an ER27.
-
Yep, you got it! That's the one....
-
So lemme get this straight.... You're gonna take a PRISTINE GL-10 sedan, 5 lug swap it, ej22T swap it, 6 speed swap it, put WRX brakes on it, and drive the livin' hell out of it?!?! SWEET!
-
Or just for being a hippie....
-
^^^^^^^^ Oh... Thanks...
-
Ya.... and WHERE'S THE PICS!!!!
-
Another thing I had to do.... Was kind of a PITA.... Well, was really not too bad but took a minute to diagnose correctly. The guy I bought it from complained of a slight miss every now and again at low RPM, at first I didn't really notice it, but then.... I did.... And it started getting worse, missing at more RPM range and eventually completely dropping the #1 cyliner.... Great..... I did the normal tuneup stuff.... No fix.... Timing... Nope.... Adjust the valves... Nope.... They were fine.... (fixed leaky valve cover seal though) Looked for vacuum leaks... Nope.... Grounds... Nope.... Did a buncha research, learned about some bad OEM splicing on the injector signal wires that commonly become a problem. So, I tore into the harness, found them. They looked OK, not great, but not horrible either. Regardless, I cut out and soldered in new connections/splices and put everything back together. Fingers crossed! Nope.... Now I'm frustrated.... So, I pull the injectors.... YEP.... Couple of the pigtail plugs were cracked/broken, and the injectors themselves looked like poop. Soldered in some new pigtails, put 4 rebuilt injectors in and it runs perfect again. The kid told me the engine had ~90,000 on it when he swapped it in. I'm thinking more like 190,000. This is how they looked.... Sooooo, since then it's been trouble AND leak free.... It was a lil bit frustrating, but I'm still happy with my purchase and now the toy and are getting along great. Every relationship has its ups and downs right!? :-p

Couple of pics to prove it..... And if you REALLY wan see the whole process..... Here check this out..... This is what I referenced before I did the install..... http://www.yotatech.com/f116/lockright-locker-install-into-v6-rear-write-up-pics-179241/

Presenting Leo, a 78 Brat in Portland!
obk25xt replied to DatSub's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Don't ruin those wheels that are on your BRAT, they are somewhat rare. Those are NOT the same ol' white spokes that you see on most older subies, those are JACKMAN's. I will Give you a set of regular ol' spoke wheels if you want to part with the Jackman's at a decent price. Or if you'd like I'll sell you a set of regular ol' spokes at a very reasonable price, say $40 or so.... Lemme know, Spencer Oh ya... NICE ride(s), and welcome to the forum!!!!!! -
Using a manifold from a turbo car is gonna do 2 things that you don't want. 1. Route the exhaust in front of the engine, which will likely ensure it gets smashed up on rocks, stumps, logs etc. 2. Require the use of a turbo crossmember, or modification of your non-turbo crossmember. Just use your stock mani, it's doubtful it will hurt you any. If you were really concerned about flow, you could use a stock 2.5 mani. You will get a different sound out it for sure, mostly because the 2.5 mani's are equal length. Also you will have the option of running without a cat, as the cat on the 2.5's is in the midpipe section, not the y-pipe section. Really it's a non-issue though. The 2.2 heads only flow so much, sure, you may bump compression some, but you will never be able to flow more than the ports will allow.

This... maybe.... Did you switch to the carb fuel pump? If not, do that first. Next, You will also need a disty from a carb car. I don't remember exactly what I did, but you will need the disty too. I ended up with only a very few wires running from the manifold harness to make it run when it was all said and done. Check grounds too, that was a hiccup on my SPFI--->carb swap. Which wasn't worth the effort anyhow. FWIW, you'd have been better off sticking with the SPFI, sorry you gave it up for the carb system. I know this from experience.
