  1. after reading that, it appears as though my car DOES have vdc.
  2. i understand the safety factor as far as being concerned about others, i AM safe, i DO drive at above posted limits, (alot of us do!) i guess i was just kinda curious what others experience was with traction control devices. was this even available on the non-turbo model outback?
  3. Hi I'm just kinda lookin for opinions/others experience on this. I have an 08 outback xt with the 5 speed manual. When I go drivin in the snow i usually turn the traction control off, i guess cause all my older soobs never had it and went just fine. Also, it seems like when tires do start to spin or slide, then the engine cuts power, then re-applies power, then things start to spin or slide again, engine cuts...... see where I'm goin with this?? I'm runnin haakapalitas, which are the best studs I've ever owned and i feel safe at speeds with them. I do push the limits, but am also pretty confident in my abilites behind the wheel. I dunno, i guess i like to be the one telling my car how much power to put down, not the ecu/tractioncu or whatever. Kinda takes away from my fun too sometimes. I guess what I'm tryin to figure out is, is the traction control gonna save my a$$ if i get into trouble on the hill? I'm thinkin no but am open for advice... Thanks, Spencer
  4. went through the car wash and it ripped off most of the rain gutter trim!!! arghh, i pushed it back on as well as i could but it kinda looks like hell now. anyone ever replaced this piece? how much of a pain is it? 90 loyale
  5. yesterday i went to u-pullit and bought a (nearly new napa) t-belt and all the idlers for the 2.2, and 2 of those heater fan switch coily things all for 20$! then i went home and put it all on the car..... yay it runs again, and the heater works on 1-4 instead of just 3-4...... nice!
  6. i am totally down for a safari of soobs! i was recently stoppped by dnr @ one of my favorite spots and it appears as though they are gonna start comin down hard on folks who are offroading in some certain areas..... that are PUBLICLY owned.....
  7. the 82 was sold in september of 08, right after i took that video, the person who bought it proceeded to beat the livin piss out of it and then sold it again. today i have no idea where it has ended up.
  8. actually its kind of a compilation of two of my subarus, mostly just spinnin donuts, and my cousin runnin tough trucks last year in his 82, lemme know what ya think!?
  9. building them in the backyard/driveway/shop/wherever! i cant figure out how to upload pics yet?! sorry i can e-mail them tho...
  10. Aright, so i'm a fairly new member here and i'm hoping it would make sense that the owners of these cars i keep seein around are too?!?! I live in Battle Ground wa and have seen around.... a greenish ea 81 wagon with bouta 4" lift and some white 14's on it with racks and lights and such. really clean car! also, theres a dark grey ea 82, probly like 2-3" lift, 13's on it... and there's a grey one by the ridgefield exit, probly like 5-6" lift with lights and racks! where you guys at when i'm rollin around!!! mines grey, 6" with 29s and a 2.2! LETS GO WHEELIN!!! i know some killer spots around bear prarie and also got a couple buddies with lifted soobs too, both my cousins have one and theres a buddy of ours with one too. and i know where theres a couple brats gettin built right now as well. i think i just listed like 5 cars besides mine that are trail worthy! we need to get together and turn heads around clark county!! any portlanders wanna play too? its just across the river! just tryin to make some connections, thanks, Spencer
  11. hey now, i may be down to roll, i dont know, i'm headin up to seattle on sunday and won't be home till like 1 in the mornin but...... also, i'm laid off right now so i kinda have alot of time on my hands for wheelin and such. hit me up and lemme know!?
  12. thats a pretty trick quick fix, and very affordable too! i will have to remember that cause i've actually run across this problem on several of the cars i bought in the past and never knew that....
  13. i think ya oughta throw a cherry bomb on it, throw some stickers in the window and really make a statement! i like the whole backfire thing.....! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmm............. bloaw!! really though, runnin rich/timing ^^^^ these guys are right i'm pretty sure..
  14. btw, chains are for the griswolds, with chains speeds are way limited, suby with studs and you dont have to stop, or get out, or lay on your side, in the snow, or worse yet......slush. and most importantly, i dunno how many cars i've seen with horrible damage from chains either coming off and eating fenders, or wrapping up around control arms and brakes and such. personally i am against chains just my opinion tho.... i'm entitled
  15. haakapalitas! ive had 2 sets and they're a little spendy but worth it, they are a performance tire, but they have studs! super soft but i'm goin on year 3 with them and they're still in pretty good shape. i do have to slightly change my driving style every year when i put them on.......... till i hit the snow! then its off with the traction control, crank the boost, put er' to the wood and kill the corners!
  16. i have the spt intake on my outback xt and also bought the heat shield which pretty much only seprates the filter from the engine, but, i have never had any problems with dirt/water/snow/sleet or anything for that matter contaminating my filter. and the thing hasnt exactly been babied either. donuts in the sand, snow, dirt, wet parking lots, 100+ miles an hour on the way to mt. hood repeatedly sideways around corners, and 3 ft of snow at my house for bout a month straight last year. no problems, i recommend it. also its got about 38,000 miles on that filter and havent cleaned it either, looks good to me still!
  17. well, its not like i did all of that overnight.... took about 6-7 weeks, i've been motivated though.... obsesive compulsive behavior and alot of turnin wrenches and fab work....
  18. so, as far as rebuilding these units goes, clutches etc. what is required? springs? clutches? and are these parts easily obtainable? i think i have a line on one and would have to convert it to 3.9 which doesnt scare me, i just wanna make sure its in good functioning condition.... any particular way to inspect condition and or test it out of the car?
  19. lifted my loyale 6", installed a d/r trans, drilled some yota wheels, added rear disc, installed a decent jukebox, replaced one axle and one ball joint (will do the other side later this week) finished fabbin up a subframe?! for lack of better words i guess. reinforced/lengthened the tiebars 1.5":brow: oh ya, and did a 2.2 swap! welded up a 3.9 diff (not installed tho?!?! dont really wanna break stuff yet!), ummm think thats bout it for lately.... more to come soon tho! bumpers and lights and racks oh my!
  20. sounds like fun, i may be able to make it! i know the 08xt should fit in allright, what about the lifted loyale tho?!?!
  21. and now finally! im finding the info that im asking.... see, a little more diggin around and i wouldnt hav had to ask this at all.......
  22. thanks, the short answer is kinda what i was lookin for. im pretty happy with the 3.90, the 2.2 does alot better than the 1.8 carb did. went out today offroad for the first time since the swap and it was sweet! i think i want to get a lsd out of a turbo and change it to 3.90 as well. kinda aprehensive about puttin in the welded one, not sure how axles/output shafts will hold up. thanks tho
  23. i have tried to read old threads to see if this is possible but just got kinda confused.... ist it posible to take the 4.11 diff out of a legacy 5speed tranny and put it into a gl tranny that currently has 3.90 gears in it? i have both trannys in my shop and was wondering if this would work to help me turn the 29s a little easier... thanks, spencer
  24. hi i'm spencer, glad to join this site in hopes of hookin up with people with similar interests and to b.s. bout soobstuff! first off, i've had probly bout 10-15 subarus ranging from 1980 to 2008. currently i own an 08 outback xt which is way sweet but not my favorite, also i have a 92 legacy, also not my favorite. my favorite is my 90 loyale! with some help from my fab crazy cousin we have lifted it 6 inches, also i installed a d/r tranny, rear disc brakes, and a 94 2.2! this ride is totally sweet. the lift is wayyyyy tougher than anything i've seen for sale online, but yet is not too much. it is built correctly and handles very good, both on and offroad. hope to have some pics up soon. i would like to know which forums would best be related to my interests and also possibly to hook up with other folks from swwa and nwor who also have modified soobs and would like to do some offroading. thanks
