  1. Cb..yes I've been threatining to do that for too long I think I wil. Gettin bumpers done this week I think and just finished installing boxed out gusseted control arms with "shaved" sway bar mounts! I bent some a coue weeks ago and haven't been the same since. I'm excited an lookin forward to this weekend!
  2. Thanks for the quick replies, very helpful bunch folks here. So it looks to me the next parts I need to get ahold of are the rear hubs off a 6, then everything else should be fairly common and relatively easy to find from the yards. Hope to be able to start this project soon. Rather than pay someone to shorten the driveline I'll probly do that myself and pay for the balancing.
  3. as far as your 1st q.. i have been runnin a spfi fuel pump in my 90 loyale with ej22 swap for around 10,000 miles in all sorts of conditions with no problems to report. for your #2 q.. i am not a tech by any means but my intuition tells me that regulating a f.i. pump down to the required psi to run a weber would be hard on the pump. when i was runnin a weber before the swap i had to switch pumps to a carb fuel pump, the f.i. pump was literally pumping gas out the top of my carb. i ran a regulator for the first little bit but was having issues with the carb runnin very smoothly and i ended up just ditching the regulator alltogether and just running a stock gl carb fuel pump with no return and it worked just fine for the couple months i ran like that before the ej swap. i have a buddy thats runnin the same setup, ea82,weber,no regulator,no return line, he's been daily driving that car like that for about 9 months with no problems...... my 0.02$
  4. i havent decided on which model yet, ea82 for sure, whether it be a wagon, sedan or coupe is still kinda up in the air, first thing i'm doing is stockpiling my parts then i'm gonna see what comes my way as far as being straight, clean and rustfree.
  5. hi, first off i love this site and the knowledge/experience here is good stuff. that being said i have some questions about clearing up some things bouncing around in my head. i have spent a good amount of time searching this stuff (and alot of other stuff too!) and still am a little foggy on some stuff. please do not let my lack of post #'s influence your response to my questions, i am very mechanical and have spent a good deal of time around subarus. i plan on building an on-road ea82 "fun" car. i have a tranny crossmember, rear control arms, and f/r sways all from an 88 xt6. this is how i'm starting my parts pile! i have read some stuff numbchux has documented very well and have a feeling about who will chime in here! i will be using an ej powerplant. i have done a couple ej swaps and have experience here. so, to the questions... 1. xt6 ft4wd vs. awd ej tranny? pros/cons? (adaptation is not an issue, i have that source) 2. for the 5 lug setup can i use all ej stuff? f/r? not too concerned about parking brake initially. 3. which axles would i use? (i'm assuming 25 spline ea82 for the front? not sure about the rear, maybe stock?) in advance, i appreciate the feedback greatly. i apologize if i havent searched thoroughly enough yet! i do my best and so far any/everything i can think of has been answered here somewhere.(part of the low post # reason!) this is a huge resource for people, everything from lugnuts to 3rd gear synchros! edit: thanks miles fox for answering some of this in another thread almost simultaneosly to this one starting! weird...
  6. i'm thinkin bout it!! its still up in the air for me, and i'm thinkin ooooooh sand in all my parts... ugh.... would a welded diff be better?? i dont like the way it handles but may be beneficial in those conditions.. ps, i'm rollin 6" d/r ej22....
  7. the only thing i've used my scissor jack for is to straighten the draglink on my buddies yota like 3 times one day! then i used my prybar and some farmers wire to stitch him up for the rest of the day....my hi-lift is always in the back, or on the top, i have stock bumpers still but that sould be soon to change. regardless, my bumpers work fine for jacking the car up, the jack just catches the metal strip on the bottom of the bumpers and she lifts right up!
  8. just briefly skimmed this thread, but i'm thinkin...... cut it and sleeve it! then use whichever ends you want for whichever style tie-rod ends you want, at whatever length you want, and the strength WILL be there...... also, GD ive got a legacy steering rack in that car at my barn you can HAVE if you wanna come an pullit..
  9. is it just me, or does the pic of the 4 wheels that dude just painted with the "hammered" paint look like 3 ea81 wheels and 1 ea82 wheel?
  10. i understand the safety factor as far as being concerned about others, i AM safe, i DO drive at above posted limits, (alot of us do!) i guess i was just kinda curious what others experience was with traction control devices. was this even available on the non-turbo model outback?
  11. Hi I'm just kinda lookin for opinions/others experience on this. I have an 08 outback xt with the 5 speed manual. When I go drivin in the snow i usually turn the traction control off, i guess cause all my older soobs never had it and went just fine. Also, it seems like when tires do start to spin or slide, then the engine cuts power, then re-applies power, then things start to spin or slide again, engine cuts...... see where I'm goin with this?? I'm runnin haakapalitas, which are the best studs I've ever owned and i feel safe at speeds with them. I do push the limits, but am also pretty confident in my abilites behind the wheel. I dunno, i guess i like to be the one telling my car how much power to put down, not the ecu/tractioncu or whatever. Kinda takes away from my fun too sometimes. I guess what I'm tryin to figure out is, is the traction control gonna save my a$$ if i get into trouble on the hill? I'm thinkin no but am open for advice... Thanks, Spencer
  12. went through the car wash and it ripped off most of the rain gutter trim!!! arghh, i pushed it back on as well as i could but it kinda looks like hell now. anyone ever replaced this piece? how much of a pain is it? 90 loyale
  13. yesterday i went to u-pullit and bought a (nearly new napa) t-belt and all the idlers for the 2.2, and 2 of those heater fan switch coily things all for 20$! then i went home and put it all on the car..... yay it runs again, and the heater works on 1-4 instead of just 3-4...... nice!
  14. i am totally down for a safari of soobs! i was recently stoppped by dnr @ one of my favorite spots and it appears as though they are gonna start comin down hard on folks who are offroading in some certain areas..... that are PUBLICLY owned.....
  15. the 82 was sold in september of 08, right after i took that video, the person who bought it proceeded to beat the livin piss out of it and then sold it again. today i have no idea where it has ended up.
  16. actually its kind of a compilation of two of my subarus, mostly just spinnin donuts, and my cousin runnin tough trucks last year in his 82, lemme know what ya think!?
  17. building them in the backyard/driveway/shop/wherever! i cant figure out how to upload pics yet?! sorry i can e-mail them tho...
  18. Aright, so i'm a fairly new member here and i'm hoping it would make sense that the owners of these cars i keep seein around are too?!?! I live in Battle Ground wa and have seen around.... a greenish ea 81 wagon with bouta 4" lift and some white 14's on it with racks and lights and such. really clean car! also, theres a dark grey ea 82, probly like 2-3" lift, 13's on it... and there's a grey one by the ridgefield exit, probly like 5-6" lift with lights and racks! where you guys at when i'm rollin around!!! mines grey, 6" with 29s and a 2.2! LETS GO WHEELIN!!! i know some killer spots around bear prarie and also got a couple buddies with lifted soobs too, both my cousins have one and theres a buddy of ours with one too. and i know where theres a couple brats gettin built right now as well. i think i just listed like 5 cars besides mine that are trail worthy! we need to get together and turn heads around clark county!! any portlanders wanna play too? its just across the river! just tryin to make some connections, thanks, Spencer
  19. hey now, i may be down to roll, i dont know, i'm headin up to seattle on sunday and won't be home till like 1 in the mornin but...... also, i'm laid off right now so i kinda have alot of time on my hands for wheelin and such. hit me up and lemme know!?
  20. thats a pretty trick quick fix, and very affordable too! i will have to remember that cause i've actually run across this problem on several of the cars i bought in the past and never knew that....
  21. i think ya oughta throw a cherry bomb on it, throw some stickers in the window and really make a statement! i like the whole backfire thing.....! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmm............. bloaw!! really though, runnin rich/timing ^^^^ these guys are right i'm pretty sure..
  22. btw, chains are for the griswolds, with chains speeds are way limited, suby with studs and you dont have to stop, or get out, or lay on your side, in the snow, or worse yet......slush. and most importantly, i dunno how many cars i've seen with horrible damage from chains either coming off and eating fenders, or wrapping up around control arms and brakes and such. personally i am against chains just my opinion tho.... i'm entitled
  23. haakapalitas! ive had 2 sets and they're a little spendy but worth it, they are a performance tire, but they have studs! super soft but i'm goin on year 3 with them and they're still in pretty good shape. i do have to slightly change my driving style every year when i put them on.......... till i hit the snow! then its off with the traction control, crank the boost, put er' to the wood and kill the corners!
  24. i have the spt intake on my outback xt and also bought the heat shield which pretty much only seprates the filter from the engine, but, i have never had any problems with dirt/water/snow/sleet or anything for that matter contaminating my filter. and the thing hasnt exactly been babied either. donuts in the sand, snow, dirt, wet parking lots, 100+ miles an hour on the way to mt. hood repeatedly sideways around corners, and 3 ft of snow at my house for bout a month straight last year. no problems, i recommend it. also its got about 38,000 miles on that filter and havent cleaned it either, looks good to me still!
