  1. Bout a quart. Not too worried about that though, the 1100 pan is nicely baffled.
  2. The 1400/1600 pickup doesn't fit with the 1100 pan cause of the height difference. I basically need to take an inch or so off of the 1400 pickup to use the 1100 pan. The 1100 pan would also let me use the factory oil-separator device which could be nice. The 1400 pan will stick out from under the front of the car and be pretty obvious, so I'm trying not to use it.
  3. There are a ton of chiltons manuals on ebay for under $10 shipped. There are several service manuals too, but they are more expensive.
  4. Man, this car just doesn't want to cooperate sometimes... I was going to try and use the original oil pan from the 1100 motor cause its shorter and won't stick down so much like the 1400/1600 oil pans, but it turns out the 1100 pickup tube is smaller in diameter so I'd have to modify one of the 1400/1600 pickup tubes to fit the 1100 oil pan, or use the 1400/1600 oil pan... Any suggestions?
  5. You can get the entire EA71 gasket kit from Subaru still. The factory headgaskets are really good IMO for the EA71. But its pretty cheap getting an entire engine gasket kit, even if you go with the Ebay options. Might as well get everything instead of just picking and choosing which gaskets to get (and actually, some gaskets can't be purchased separately anyway)
  6. First step actually is to either pick up a Chiltons manual or an old service manual for the car Second step is to clean everything off as best as you can before getting started (power wash?) These motors are rather easy. The only difficult thing are the vacume lines IMO. The oil filter "unit" is the oil pump, thats easy to remove (4 small bolts) unless the bolts are seized (not usually). Gaskets are readily available for it, as are new oil pumps if you need one. Oil pan gaskets are also available and the torque specs for those small bolts are rather low. By main, do you mean the front or rear seal? (rear seal is behind the flywheel, front is behind the front pulley).
  7. Alright, I inspected the one I pulled out of an '83 FWD awhile ago. Everything seems to be in-spec in terms of the bearing, gear and such, and it cleaned up pretty good so I think I'm going to try it out. However, I need a new Cap, Rotor, Seal for the cap, and O-ring for the distributor...
  8. Quite nice. Custom interior too! Get more pics of the interior
  9. Is this the wrong one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Distributor-Subaru-1981-81-1-6L-2WD-Electronic-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c3e45b8bcQQitemZ190023317692QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories I'm looking to buy a distributor now for my car, but the 83+ FWD electronic ones are rather expensive... I did pull one off a car awhile ago, but I'm really not sure if its any good.
  10. GL coupe? I can't tell anymore, I've ready too many damn old brochures...
  11. I went 3 splines down on the rears on my FF-1 and its too much, going to have to re-do it Your car looks fantastic. Mine should be riding at a similar height when its done
  12. Holy crap that looks fantastic! Is it actually a "Sport" model with the dual carbs, or just the 5-speed GSR? I so wish I could find one of those in good shape... I'd sell my Impreza and use it as my daily driver.
  13. So I split the block tonight to get the camshaft off... Glad I did, the sealant used on this thing is crap, and there are a TON of metal shavings! I'll get it cleaned out. Oh, and its SOOO much easier taking apart a brand new block vs. old and rusted Yesterday I got my new engine mounts... They are actually from Landrovers! They are the PERFECT size for my car and what I'm doing. I'm using these instead of the read urethane blocks I had cause they have metal discs on top and bottom giving extra support to the mounts and how I had to change them because of the wider bellhousing.
  14. It also has to have an E-brake mechanism attached to it. But ya, it wouldn't be cheap to make something like that...
  15. This is the best photo I have that shows how the Sports model front discs mounted on the FF-1's: I'm not concerned now about the brakes, other than the brake lines (which I probably need help with) I just want to get the car running this summer.
  16. This is what I'm talking about with the brake springs. I have a "new" one installed from a late model car on one side, and the original one on the other. The "new" one fits pretty well minus the fact its kind of close to the shoe. The spring pin is the same width so the plates fit just fine over it: Couple photo's of the assembled transmission and the axles that are also assembled: The axles I put later 70's model boots on the hub side, and they are a little short and don't seem to rotate as well as the originals. I saved the originals in case these don't work... Also, the red hoses are there cause the e-brake lines had some black crummy hoses that disintegrated, they were basically just there for protecting the lines so I used some red silicone hoses instead
  17. Crap, can't find one of my front drum spring cap thingies that hold down the brake shoes, and nobody seems to have any this small... Can I retrofit to a newer style with a wider cap/spring?
  18. Going to run webers, but thanks for keeping me in mind :)

  19. The clutch I'm getting is going to have to be a solid-disc clutch (IE not sprung), anyone thing thats going to be a huge issue?
  20. Here are some part numbers I put together for the "body spacers" awhile ago: OEM Body-lift parts: 20570AC040 (2x) - Front Subframe Spacer 95-99 OBK 20540AC000 (2x) - Front Subframe bolts 95-99 OBK 34160AC030 - Steering Joint (longer) 95-99 OBK 20570AC030 (2x) - Rear Subframe Spacer 95-99 OBK 901000167 (4x) - Rear Subframe bolts 95-99 OBK 41337AC010 (2x) - Rear Diff support spacer 95-99 OBK 41321AC020 (2x) - Rear Diff mounting brackets 95-99 OBK 41332AC000 (2x) - Rear Diff mounting bolt 95-99 OBK 20520AC030 - RH Trailing link bracket 97-99 OBK 20520AC040 - LH Trailing link bracket 97-99 OBK 41021AC370/41021AC330/41021AC470 - 5MT Transmission crossmember 95-99 OBK 41040AC000 - Pitch rod 95-99 OBK 32035aa060 - Pitch rod mount (transmission side) 03+ Forester/95-99 OBK I just want to note that most everything that applies to 90-99 Legacies also applies to 93-07 Impreza's, so take a look at the "How to lift your Impreza" thread for some guidance too. Also note, if you just want to do a 1"-2" suspension lift, IMO the body spacers are not required. I only have about a 2.5" suspension lift with my Impreza, and the CV's (axles) are still at good angles. The body-lift is meant to compensate for axle angles being too far away from spec.
  21. Good news! Just ordered a custom clutch plate I'm working on assembling the front brakes now along with misc bits attached to the transmission. Next up after finishing that, having the head work done and swapping the camshaft and then assembling the drivetrain and installing it
  22. Ya, you are right, the GF is just hardtops. Strange though, since this appears to be a GF too:
