OK, I wired it up EXACTLY how McBrat has it, I even added a little connector where the old + coil connector was (which is in line with the fuel pump, and I know that works fine and is getting power) and I still don't seem to have any spark. Now, how do I figure out exactly what is wrong? What do I need to check, I presume the MSD and the Coil correct? I attached my timing light to both the #1 plug wire and straight to the coil wire and neither is causing the light to come on when the car turns over. P.S. the starter problem was just that the wire got disconnected somehow from the back of the starter.
  2. Question. My "original" positive coil wire was in-line with the fuel pump and blower motor, basically just a connection off that black/white wire. Should I connect that red wire in your diagram to the same location, or somewhere else?
  3. I can try that out, won't be too difficult to do. Although, now I have to resolve my starter issue too :-\
  4. FYI, wheels on these old Subarus have a odd bolt pattern, 4x140. The only cars with wheels of this pattern were the old Subaru's and a few old Peugeot's.
  5. I'm even more confused now :-\ FYI, I don't have points, I have a EA81 FWD electronic disty. If I absolutely have to, I still have my old points disty and I know that works correctly.
  6. You listed 3 sets of red and black. The only red and black I have are for the battery. Orange and black for the coil which I have connected correctly. And then there is one white wire left which is in with the red wire that goes to the switched source. And lastly, the green/violet for the magnetic pickup.
  7. Ug... :-\ Well if thats the case, where does the second wire go from the distributor? Oh, and now my starter isn't doing anything anymore
  8. This is pretty much how I have the MSD wired: Big black and big red straight to the battery terminals. Small red to blue wire that connects to the ignition (switched source I hope...) Coil wires attached as the diagram shows, same with the disty wires.
  9. Got my second fan today, gonna figure out how to mount them. While I was waiting, I put some fuel in the car to test for leaks (found two: Fuel sender seal and carb diaphragm, fixed both I hope). Also tried to fire it up... No luck of course. Turns over fine with the starter, but I didn't spend much time trying to figure out the fuel/spark/timing situation. Fuel is getting into the motor though, I checked the carb to see if it was squirting.
  10. I ordered mine through Summit (the 6596 part number). Took awhile to arrive, but it did. My only issue is that since I don't have an EA81 vehicle, my horn connection isn't correct. Does anyone have a photo or diagram of how the horn connects on the roll connector with an EA81 car?
  11. Try maybe a taller engine mount or a stiffer engine mount to give more clearance for the steering system. If not, probably have to modify that linkage so its higher up away from the bellhousing... BTW, have you tried test fitting an EJ transmission at all?

  13. Found a simple solution to my radiator hose issue. Still needs a little work to get it to fit a little better, but it should work fine.
  14. It would help. Could be a rust bucket and not worth the trouble too.
  15. Ooh, didn't know that VIN site existed. Looks like its the basic information from all the FSM's but put into one document.
  16. Whats the VIN number, or at least the first few numbers that indicate the model code.
  17. Paint is dry on my bits, so I installed them: I installed the front valence hopefully permanently now, so here is the front end in all its finished glory. I'll probably have to adjust the grill a little more, and obviously it needs a bumper: The first of my two SPAL fans showed up today as well. Its the perfect size (9" fan) and I still have the 7.5" fan for the other side coming. I'll get them installed as soon as the second one arrives:

  19. How bout this... Can you make a 1.25" piping 90 degree elbow? I mean like a SHARP 90 degrees for my radiator hose. I've been trying to figure out what to do about my lower radiator hose, and I can't come up with a good solution. If there were a brass 1.25" elbow I'd buy that immediately, but the largest size they come in is 1" I have found a black plastic elbow, but I'm not sure I should put that in with my radiator hoses.
  20. Don't worry about it. It looks fine painted, and its quite strong so I'm happy. The flash from that photo makes it look worse than it is.
