For LSD's you can use any other subaru rear diff. If it has the same rear final drive ratio, I think yours is 4.11 but I'm not certain, and it just bolts up... But other LSD rear's from other Imprezas/Legacy's/Foresters with different ratios can be used by using the ring and pinion from your diff. The front wheel spinning is the same thing i've noticed since all new subaru AWD systems other than the STI don't have front LSD's... You have to go aftermarket for that.

Subaru ff-1 In Oregon
Kostamojen replied to Mirroromega's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ya, FF-1's are OMGYOULUCKYBASTARD rare Welcome Please post pics ASAP!!! -
Front or rear? Auto or manual?

Its the same shortblock. The heads are the same too, but apparently the STI has slightly better cams. The turbo, exhaust piping, intercooler and tuning are the main differences. If you run a STI VF39 (turbo) with the STI uppipe, STI exhaust, and intercooler with an ECU reflash (all of which can be done for <$1000) you will basically have an STI motor.

Congrats! Mine is still a ways from being able to register it -
Usually Ebay/Internet private sale prices I see are lower than local private sales (newspaper, used car lots, private sale signs on cars, and the local private sale "meet" every weekend) but in this case probably not for this car. Although I do see alot of 80's subarus in the sub $500 range on Craigslist...
-
That doesnt matter to them. Its 20+ year old car with no collectability. Sure, there are a few people here who would spend $1000 on a old Subaru, I know I would, but thats not the value of the car for insurance purposes. There are differences between percieved value, retail value, private sale value, and insurance value. I know you probably definatly need more money than $400 or you might have alot of trouble replacing the car, but thats a risk when you drive such an old car with no real value. I do hope you can get them to part with more money, but you have a huge burecratic fight on your hands... However, I noticed you havent stated the name of the company... Which company is it? Regional value differences are more drastic than you think. Used Imprezas and Legacys here in California are very expensive. When my '95 Impreza was totaled, I got $4000 for it. I was surprised I got that much, but if you can't find a used Impreza in California for much less than that, especially since it was a 5-speed with AWD. (FWD Imprezas still go for $3000) My replacement Impreza cost $6000, and its a 95 as well (albiet with an RS drivetrain )

Its not a bad price.

Scorpion springs, Taller tires, custom bumpers, AA lift kit... -
The honda gripes I saw were people running a ton of power through the stock gearbox... But I didnt see too many examples. There is a guy over on NASIOC installing a OBX front LSD and a rear Phantom Grip... Should be interesting

Subaru's are like legos. The EJ 5-speed has hardly changed over the past 15 years... They say only 02+, but I see no reason why it wont fit any EJ 5-speed, and it might fit 4EAT's too but I don't know for sure.

Are phantoms copies of Quaife helitical LSD's?
-
Well this is something to have done if your tranny looses a gear or something else breaks, have it done while its opened up anyway.

Hey guys, ive been compiling a list of curb weights for all model subarus that I can get info on. I don't have much so far, and i've been using mostly online resources like cars101 and edmunds, along with some help from NASIOC members (which is where I have a thread on this running) but I know you guys are better with FSM info, which seems to be the best and most reliable so far So, if anyone has time, I could use some help with additional information to try and complete this list...

I just discovered them over on NASIOC, but aparently they have been out a couple months... OBX, a "cheap" brand that has been putting out parts for Subarus for a little while now has a front LSD for EJ 5-speed Subarus for only $450 now, and thats brand new not used... I've never seen diffs for that cheap before. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Helical-LSD-02-05-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STi-Front_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33731QQitemZ8028305992QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Thoughts anyone?

You can use any rear LSD you want with any transmission as long as you use the ring and pinnion from that transmission. The front however, no idea... I'd like to know as well.

AWD/4WD Impreza, it works! WHOAH! (4EAT = AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, not 5spd)
Kostamojen replied to Andyjo's topic in Off Road
Honestly, I dont mind that its a 4EAT. Its UNGODLY fast... I'm just sad its not mine, but I did all the convincing to get them to buy it
