  1. Ill double check that wednesday. I took a break today from the '78 and installed an '06 STI diffuser on my '95
  2. Its pointing straight across when I installed them. I made sure of that. Ill check to see if the nub isnt in the grove though.
  3. Its not me I worry about with the noise, its well, everyone else in suburbia who will murder me cause of the noise
  4. Its not on, I gave it several yanks several times to be sure. The pads seem to be right, unless they have too much material, they are metal masters. I spun both brakes with the wheels off, they both do it, but one more than another.
  5. Well now I have a VERY serious issue with the brakes... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43316
  6. The rotors are the same, I checked. The pads are the same minus the fact they are new (IE have ALOT more material on them now) I cant drive it, its INSANE how loud it is. Like if a 1940's tank rolled down your street.
  7. No, everything is exactly in place, I even re-did everything to be sure...
  8. Yes yes yes, I screwed them in, used Subjunkies design for a tool, worked great.
  9. Brand spankin new rotors. I just pressed the pistons down all the way to be sure, greased the caliper shim thingies, and basically re-did everything. Its even worse now... EXTREME metal on metal sound.
  10. Oh and its definatly not the dust shields, I got the wheels off again with the car in the air and im rotating the hubs and its definatly pad rubbing the disc. The pistons at this point are not all the way down.
  11. Kind of both. I presume the noise is a result of the brakes draging, but there is a big difference between when I apply the brakes vs. when the car is just moving.
  12. Ill double check that fast. One of them did tweak a little when I was working on it.
  13. I compressed them all the way down to where they were even with the caliper body, or at least close to it.
  14. Well I just finished the front brake install on my '78 and I have a big time problem... I got the brakes all bleed, that worked fine, have decent brake pressure. BUT when the car moves, its like a metal ochestra under my front wheels... MAJOR grinding. I know its because its new pads, and a new rotor and theres not alot of space there, but how in the heck can this be fixed or what is the problem??? Im totally clueless...
  15. Thats fine. You can borrow any tools you need. I have to bleed mine tommorow, I didnt have anyone around to help today but ya everything is in place minus the bleeding.
  16. I used Subjunkies "modified socket" designed tool to compress the pistons, worked very well Rather hard to do, but it worked. But now of course, I have zero brake pressure...
  17. Actually, I figured this out right after I posted, lol! I just pulled hard and had someone hit the axle with a sledge Poped right off. Now im trying to do the stupid caliper piston after cleaning everything up and putting on the new rotors... I have to get the piston in about 1/2 an inch
  18. So I'm doing my front brakes right now on my '78, putting on new pads and new rotors. But, I'm not sure how to get the hub off. I dont have access to the "hub tool" shown in the service manuals. Any suggestions?
  19. Rear, ya you can toss it... Front, not sure about... I'd have to try it myself and get a feel for it to recommend it or not.
  20. Ok, so I got the gasket on with some extra gasket sealant, and got the heater hose on as well... Its running without smoke now, well at least not much smoke. I dont think the timing is right yet, since its backfiring now... If I set the timing without the vacume advance connected, and get the idle to around 900, and then if I plug the vacume advance back in and the idle drops to stalling speeds is that a problem?
  21. Im taking it to a local shop that specializes in subarus. They will check that there, along with a few other things... I'm going to get the gasket on first of course. There doesnt seem to be any fuel in the oil either, the texture is right and theres no gas smell.
  22. PCV valve replaced, no change (exept for no more leak). Still awaiting a new gasket...
