  1. I am Calvin, I live in Hayden Idaho, I have a 78 brat that I traded some electrical work for the car from my old roommate who took a saw to the top of the roof and cut it out. I managed to weld in some support bars and clean it up, my mom does upholstery and made a one off snap on soft top that works awesome, I drive this thing all over and even load my dirtbikes and sometimes my 4-wheeler in it. I have been asking around for tips on building this car up and hopefully this summer I can get some work done on it:banana:
  2. I have a 78, brat and was wondering what lift kits you have available for this? also from responses on threads I posted it sounds like I should swap the rear end out to a gen II set up. my plan is to do a motor swap and a hi/low 5 speed. Is there one specific car that I could get as a donor car for all of this? I was thinking about an 83-86 GL model subaru? I would like to do a bigger motor swap but sounds like I have a horrible car for that, but I can get about 110 ponies from a worked EA81?

  3. I have a 78 brat and want to do motor tranny swap after a lift. would this be a good car to get to pull the motor and tranny from? it is a 1985 Subie RX turbo, 5 speed, HI/Low tranny let me know asap and maybe I can pick this car up cheap. I know the motor would probably be a major pain to get in but would it be worth it? I have no idea what kinda power it puts out.
  4. there is a really big crack in the upper portion of the dash which is really annoying. Glad you like the top, the color is not the best but it is awesome waterproof fabric and I was thinking about painting it with fabric paint. I still have some finish work to do to pin up the headliner to the bars I welded in around the top.
  5. Well it has a removable soft top but is not a true convertible in the sense that the back window and everything is still there but you can stand up and drive around, and it feels like your driving a go cart when i take the doors off and have the top off.
  6. sorry about the caps being on. So I should stay with the stock motor? it already seems like i have no power and I imagine it will be even worse if I lift it.
  7. I HAVE A 78 BRAT WITH A CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE TOP AND ME AND MY MOM HAD PLANS OF LIFTING IT AND DOING SOME MOTOR MODS TO IT. SHE PASSED AWAY AND AFTER MAKING THE TOP FOR ME , I WANT TO FINISH THE REST OF IT. I NEED HELP ON HOW TO BUILD A LIFT FOR THIS AND ALSO WHAT MOTOR AND FIVE SPEED TRANNY TO PUT IN HERE. ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS. I WILL POST PICS OF EVERYTHING THAT IS DONE IF I GET SOME HELP ON WHAT I AM DOING. HELP!!!!! :drunk:
  8. I understand the problem ( I think that is) with the gen I brat but the biggest thing is that my brat is a custom convertible with a soft top that my mom made and she passed away and we had big plans for this brat and she made the top for me and it is up to me to do the rest so any help would be greatly appreciated. I could really use all the info on gen I brats and I am going to make this happen and the help from subaru gurus would make this much easier. Thanks to all who reply with something
  9. I am having trouble finding a good thread to help me make a 6 inch lift for my 78 subaru brat. I would like to get started on it and then do a motor swap also so any threads would be great for that also. A while ago i found a thread explaining what all the EJ numbers were which was helpful because I do not have a clue what these numbers are, but i can't find that thread anymore. A trannny swap would also be nice to get a five speed. I am thinking the easiest thing would be to buy another subaru and pull motor tranny both but I am new, I don't know what to do. Any help or direction would be great to get my brat started.
