Hi everyone, Looking for some handy information here. Basically I have 2 visually damaged, 01 foresters which I'm fixing 1 of them up. The one I am fixing is a standard forester using the front end of a Limited forester. They both have working ej20 engines and both gear boxes are fine. What I want to know is what would be involved in adding a small turbo to the ej20 engine? Nothing big, just enough to give it a little more grunt without any heavy modifications needed. Here are the pictures of the carby I pulled off. 1 of each side and 1 close up of each solenoid. Have driven the car some more and adjusted the idle up slightly and it runs fine. Occasionally stalls when idling, not sure why just yet.

I found an identical carby on a spare parts car. I have put it on and the acceleration is much better, but occasionally when touching the accelerator, the engine starts to die but does pick up again. I am thinking the would be a problem with the electrics of the carby, not 100% sure. I will post pics of the carby once I get home. Posting from my phone. Cheers Daniel

Just curious about swapping a carby over. Have a brumby with an ea81 from an 84 L series which runs fine but has a flat spot in the carby when the Revs begin to go up. I would like to grab another standard ea81 carby and throw it on. The problem is that on the 2 touring wagons, other brumby and L series we have, none of them have a mystery solenoid at the back of the carby. The brumby with the flat spot has this mystery solenoid. Would it be ok to use a carby without a second solenoid? (looks separate from the idle solenoid). Also, what is the purpose of the mystery solenoid? Cheers Daniel

Hi all. Recently got our brumby going which we had been working on. Runs fine except it makes this strange sound in the muffler when the rpm's go up (different issue tho). What I noticed is that when I was driving the brumby around the yard for about 10 mins the temp was just below halfway (which is what an old wagon we used to have ran at) All was fine and dandy but i noticed the temp slowly go up after the next 10 mins. When we parked the car back in the shed to make sure all was well we left it idling and looked under the bonnet. Both electrical fans didn't seem to be working with the temp sitting at about 3/4 the way up. We only took a quick look so haven't fully investigated why, but the fan closest to the left side (when facing the car from the front) was plugged in while the one on the right side (again facing while standing in front) didn't appear to be plugged in. Now I know I will need to go plug in one fan, but why might the other one not be working? Also could there be something I may have overlooked that I should have checked? Cheers, Daniel

Thanks for that. How much oil is the average amount for these gearboxes?

Just recently put an ea81 motor and 4sp gearbox from a 84 model 1800 wagon into a 90 model brumby. Motor and gearbox work fine, but I can't seem to find the gearbox oil top-up. I had a look underneath around the exhaust mount and the gear shift. I haven't looked on the top of the gearbox yet because the car is still on the hoist. Where abouts is the top-up for the gear oil? Will need to check what it is actually doing. When the pump is connected straight to the battery I can start the car and move it around the yard. So I would think it is pumping some fuel around (only put the motor back in last weekend). Will check and post what I find if I can't get it working. Thanks for the replies.

I have 90 model brumby with an ea81 motor. When the pump is connected with the standard wiring (under the right hand side door from the pump to the battery) it does not pump any fuel. When a wire is connected directly from the battery to the wire under the right hand side door the pump will start working. I'm not sure where the wires go once the move forward past the door. Is there a wiring diagram or sorts somewhere to solve this? or would anyone off hand know? Cheers
