  3. Oh the intermittent wipers. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Also yesterday found out my intermittents are no longer operational at all. RIP intermittent setting. My two favorite issues with my wonderful sedan are my sticky hill holder that works fine until I'm in the worst possible place for it to just stick. I put up with it for almost two years, last week got in a pinch with it stuck on... Hack saw to the cable fixed that issue. The other issue which is more comical to me than anything is that my car idles about 300 rpm higher when it's full of fuel than when it's below half a tank.

  5. Thanks everybody. I stopped by the dealer today and picked them up. Didn't have any issues with the bolts. I don't have it apart yet I just pulled the bolts out and cleaned them up. I'll get back to it on Saturday

  7. So I noticed today that the car... 87 gl sedan with a weber... is leaking coolant from right where my intake bolts to the head on my driver side. Idk why it would be leaking there, is there a coolant line there? I know there is the actual coolant line running by the intake there but it is clearly leaking from the gasket between the head and intake. Can anybody shed some light on why it would be leaking there?
  8. Spray the hell out of it with penetrating oil. I always put a vice grip around the shock shaft as high up as I can. That method has always worked for me
  9. I'm no longer in Eugene. I'm from Medford, was up in Eugene for school. I graduated in march so I'm back down in Medford. I'll be doing all the machine work. We have a world class machine shop at work, so this winter when things slow down a bit I'll be able to have the guys do some work on the side for me. I'm really looking forward to getting back up there to see some friends and have another go at some of the trails I couldn't clear before I got the car lifted with bigger tires.
  10. Did you put the rubber isolators back in on the top of the shock? Even with everything tight it clunk like you are bottoming out but its just the metal on metal hitting. I did the swap with my lift block on top and was getting the bottom out clunk almost every time I was hitting a bump. I eventually swapped in outback rear shocks and made new top blocks to account for the different top mounts.
  11. Same here. Just acquired my 2.2. Its got low compression but I plan to go through the whole thing anyway and do a full rebuild. But I replaced my crank seal and the smoke screen went away. Give it a couple days and hit those corners hot again. It would usually take me a couple days to pool enough oil for it to splash and smoke.
  12. When I was leaking a bit of oil, it used to pool up somewhere under the car, and when I went around a long corner at higher speeds I would leave an awesome smoke screen. I was formerly also in Eugene, the car would do it on the long corner coming from LCC merging to 30th and then on the 115 in the long corner by the delta hwy exit .
  13. I spent my day today timing magnetos to recip engines on a couple 100 series cessnas. This got me thinking about the timing on my car... 87 sedan that has been webberized. I'm very ashamed to say that I can time magnetos in my sleep but don't understand how to change the timing on my car. I've read a bunch tonight about it tonight and I'm still in the dark. Can we have a discussion on how to find or advance the timing? Obviously I know what timing marks are and how to rotate the disty. I know how it all works, but I don't understand the process of using a timing light and whatnot. Anybody have links to a FSM on the subject or want to run me through the process. I have no idea what my timing is at... I know stock carbed ea82's speced 8 degrees dbtdc, but guys recommend 20 for webbers... My car runs great, but today got me thinking and now I need to know more. This whole thing is very frustrating for me.

  15. The lovely girlfriend is now driving her own car. My insurance that she used to be on just renewed and low and behold my insurance went up 40 dollars a month... Turns out she got a ticket for doing 92 in a 55 safety zone on the freeway. Her excuse, was that she was doing 75 and a car came speeding up on her so she sped up so the car wouldn't be tailgating her. That car was a state trooper. So she doesn't drive the sti anymore, and now pays her own insurance as well as the difference on mine.
  16. Have you ever even pulled off a stock front bumper? They are heavier than they look. Why would I fudge any numbers?... To impress the Internet? Should I take it off and post pics of all the weights for you, so you can sleep happy at night? The license plate part weights less than a pound. It's a 2 1/2 piece of 1/8 wall 2x2, welded to a 2x3 piece of 1/4 inch plate. With the license plate bolted to it. Also when I measured it, I measured from the back of each bumper, so once again you typed a bunch of almost incoherent, badly punctuated run on sentences for no reason. Thanks for the compliments on the bumper tho. If you want one I'd glad build you one so you can inspect if for yourself.
  17. You will be fine. You're Driving a 2000 pound car and fairly low pressures. Again to jeeps I ran my 37s on 15x8s for years and never blew a bead. Well I take that back, I got hit by a dirtbike and his bike blew the bead on one of my tires. I really don't think it's an issue. If you are that worried get a 7 inch wide rim.
  18. I have a 37x12.50 spare tire for my jeep that is mounted on a 15x6 wheel. I've driven in a couple hundred miles without any problems before. I'm willing to be you will be fine...
  19. Overkill? The mounts are 1/4 inch 2x2... The rest is 1/8 wall 2x2. The bumper is 8 pounds heavier than the stock bumper. I politely disagree that it will affect handling. It sits 4 inchs closer to the car than the stock bumper. So if you do a pretty simple weight and balance calculation... I'm a helicopter mechanic... Stock bumper 40 pounds x 24 inches equals a balance moment of 960 in stock form. My bumper 48 pounds x 20 inches from the wheels equals a balance moment of... Oh my, 960 also. So you arguement against the weight and handling is kinda mute. I don't just build stuff. I do the math.
  20. Thanks man that means a lot. Looks good from afar, but far from good is what I feel like. Couple of the welds are kinda boogered and ugly but like I mentioned up above I'm not great with a mig welder. It's strong though, I hooked a hitch mounted jack to it and lifted the front end five feet off the ground to pressure wash underneath.
  21. I installed the factory winch bumper you have in the past pic on my buddies 90 wagon. Had to doña little fab work but it looks great. I didn't realize it was a factory bumper.
  22. Well I finally got to the front bumper. I went much along the same as the rear but I angled the front a bit and spaced it away from the grill so I can add a 30 inch light bar or a couple fog lights. Here's the run through. I used quarter inch wall 2x2 for the attach points to the car. Since the bolts are such a pain to get to I decided to weld them in... in hindsight this was a terrible idea, I realized right after I welded the bumper on that I can no longer take it off since the damn bolts are welded in. There she is just kinda laying there so I had an idea of how it would look. Got most of it together and welded up. It took me a little bit to figure out how I wanted to angle the side plate and cut all the angles. One side was cut here. The side plates are welded on, was just working the flap wheel to make all the visible welds smooth and nice looking. Got it all welded on and painted. Fits better than I anticipated but I am pretty unhappy with a couple of the welds. Had to hunt around for some marker lights that I could use as turn signals that would fit what i wanted. Had to tack in a couple of brackets, was really more of a project than I wanted but I think the lights turned out really slick. For the license plate I cut a piece of 2x2 to fit in the hitch and welded a plate to it and then bolted the plate on. So the plate mounts like any receiver would, which is nice, so I can take it out quickly if I need to. Overall I'm happy. Its a bit heavier than i wanted but now I can justify lifting the front a bit more anyway.
  23. Sounds like the pump may be going out. Mine did the same thing. Steering just started feeling notchy, it progressively got worse until the pump started to stall the engine. It happened over the course of about 2 month. I just removed the power steering.
  24. Been busy the last couple day on the car! Read shocks were shot so I sourced some rears out of an 02 outback at the u-pill it. Before grabbing them I looked online and they have about all the same dimentions. I had to make a new top mount for them, cut the bottom mount off my old shocks and weld them on the new shocks. The eye diameter was different and I didn't feel like messing with the existing mounts on the car in case I wanted to go back to regular shocks. I ended up cutting two coils off the outback springs to get the height I wanted. The result?!?!? The best ride I could imagine! Very firm ride but didn't bounce on a dirt road. Handles very sporty for what it is. I did have to beat the inside of the wheel well a bit to keep the coil from rubbing it. Then I started laying out the steel for my new front bumper. Should be done in a couple days.
