  1. I never redrilled hubs to go down to 4x110, but I did buy blank atv rims while I worked at motosuperstore and ran atv rims and tires on my old 83 wagon for 2 years without any problems. I never took them on the freeway but I drove around on them everyday. I jumped that thing and wheeled it really hard without any issues.
  2. You guys are awesome!!!! I just saw this a bit ago and ran out and the cam was switched into the overide position. Trunk opens beautifully with the lever now.
  3. All the answers seem to be what I expected. I thought pulling up on the lever was the trunk but my truck doesn't open. Thank for confirming what I thought. Just got to hunt down the issue with the switch now.
  4. I have an 87 gl sedan. I love the car. My real issue, and I'm not sure why its an issue to me, is that this stupid thing doesn't have a switch or anything to pop the rear deck lid. Was there ever a factory option for one? Has anybody rigged one up? Or am I destined to either fab one up or live with having to shut the car off and get out every time I want to pop my trunk? Pic of my car, cause pics are always better.
  5. I've never used it on my subarus...my current one leaks so much oils that I hardly change the oil lol. But I have used it for about 150k on my 96 grand cherokee with a 360 in it. I'm pushing almost 230k on the engine without a rebuild. Every time I dig into the engine its clean as a whistle. I attribute it to seafoam with every other oil change.
  6. I just rebuilt my 87 sedan, webber carb with the original engine. It had and currently has flat tops in it. No dish like any low comp piston has.
  7. You don't have to pull the pulley to pull the pump. The pump should wiggle out with the pulley on it. It took me forever to figure it out the first time since I thought the pulley had to come off first.
  8. I still have the "collector cat" but its aftermarket from magna flow. The second cat I junked. I'm using a 2" in and 2" out magna flow muffler also. I don't have any backfiring during normal driving while going through the gears. I got a little burbling when I went from 5th to 3rd going downhill at about 60 when someone pulled out in front of me.
  9. O.D on my stock pipes was 1 7/8. I'm willing to bet it was whatever the metric equivalent of that is. I just had the exhaust on my 87 done and went full 2 inch from the engine back.
  10. Interesting... Looks like I'm going to change the fluid first then. Thanks for the info. Thanks! I'll be sure to send you a pm if the fluid change doesn't work out.
  11. So the power steering pump on my 87 GL has started making constant noise. I'm sure its been doing it awhile, but I just got the exhaust done and can now actually hear the engine. Its not the belt squealing, just sounds like the pump has had enough. It's kinda a wirring/ light squeal when I turn the wheels at slow speeds. The pump or power steering system isn't leaking, so that leads me to believe the pump is dying a slow death. But I could be wrong... Any insight? Are guys just replacing the pumps or rebuilding them? OEM or is there something good aftermarket.
  12. I cut all exhaust components off my 87 sedan today. I am tired of the rattles and I needed to install my new converter and muffler. Because of how busy I am with school the old girl is going to the shop for new exhaust. I'm sad that I'm not doing it myself but so happy to be having new pipe from the motor out.
  13. I've never used bed liner stuff on my subarus, but I did have it sprayed on the inside of my trail only ranger and in the back of my current grand cherokee. Its is a ton more durable and that's awesome, but the noise suppression is awful. In my jeep I ended putting the carpet back over the liner in the cargo area. It was so loud. I had linex sprayed in both trucks.
  14. I'm from medford. I love my subarus, but the guys you much have been "wheeling" against probably didnt have lockers, gears, and the necessities to actually wheel. Not just drive around on rough roads. There isn't a lot of true wheeling down there. I got by for a long time in my ranger with just 33's and a 6 inch lift. When I really wanted to get nasty it got full width straight axles, v8, 4:1 atlas t case and 37's. A lot of body work and tummy tucking later it sat an inch lower then with the 33's only I had tires that were 4 inches bigger. My first subaru, and 83 gl wagon with big quad tires went to the grave when i cartwheeled it while out jumping quads at the white city ponds. Soobies rock.
  15. No... The cat is about a foot back from the collector. I've always heard where the two headers come down and meet and turn into one pipe referred to as the collector.
  16. My grandpa was a body and fender guy for 30 years and now does custom body work on high end cars and older cars. The tip he gave me that worked awesome on the black plastic that was on the wranger I used to have was black shoe polish. It soaks into the plastic really well and leaves it nice and shiny. I never thought it would work but it worked awesome.
  17. My wonderful 87 sedan dubbed the silver slayer has a huge exhaust leak in the collector where each header comes down and comes into one pipe. I've looked around our local yard and found a couple but both were is worse shape than mine. I have fairly decent welding skills and could make one, but I literally don't have the time in my schedule... 21 credits plus almost full time job. So what are people doing when their collectors go bad? Aftermarket or alternatives? I do plan to junk my cat and add a random flowmaster muffler I have laying around. But I need to fix the collector leak before I do anyting.
  18. I had the honor of getting to fix a stuck front caliper today on my 87 gl, in the parking lot at school, in dress clothes. Just temp fixed it by wacking it with a hammer and getting some grease in there. Not bad considering I only had my aviation tool with me and nothing in metric sizes.
  19. The 83 got cartwheeled two times at the local tuff truck races. It was across the finish line jump tho so she still brought me home a checkered flag beforeshe got stripped and taken to the junk yard. I wish I still had it. For carrying bikes I had broken the back window out and would hang the bikes out the back like you would over a truck tailgate. I was so awesome lol
  20. Well maybe it doesn't scream silver slayer... but its there, or will be someday. My previous soobie, an 83 gl wagon, in literally showroom condition when I got with with original tires and 28k on the clock was called the blue bomber. It eventually got a 3 inch lift, chopped fenders and 30 inch tall swamper quad tires on blank quad rims that I drilled for the bolt pattern. It was our shuttle car for getting our downhill mountain bikes to the top of hills.
  21. That pic was literally my saving grace this morning. Tdc 15 minutes the "silver slayer" as I'm calling it was back on the road.
  22. I'm just a plain idiot. I thought there were only four bolts holding the pump itself on... plus the pulley nut. Well after 3 hours I realized that there is a 5th bolt on the top that I hadn't seen. So ya... Then to add to my troubles I asked my gf to turn the ignition on to listen to music and she turned it on too far and bumped the starter with one belt off. So now I'm working on getting the belts back on correctly. There is a good video on youtube, but I can't clearly see the marks that I need to go off of. I'm laying under the soobie, looking at my 96 grand cherokee with full width axles and 37's and almost willing to deal with the 12 miles a gallon right now. lol. Thanks for the help guys.
  23. Ok, so this is my second ea82 equipped soobie. This on is an 87 sedan. The mickey mouse gasket as gone bad and is leaking a bit. For the life of me I cant get the nut off that holds the pulley on. How are people getting it off? I still have the timing belt on, and under torque it is just hopping teeth on the belt. This is making me crazy. I make a living working on helicopters and this single nut has me pulling my hair out.
