  1. Rick, I still don't get it. My pistons come up flush with the engine block. If they were taller, they would hit the head.
  2. Iv'e flicking around on the net and it looks as though MPFI pistons have indents in them. Is this a turbulence thing? As far as I can tell an indent in the piston is going to lower compression ratio. Is that why you would have to skim the heads?
  3. Ok. But why? Are you sure they raise compression? I can't figure it out.
  4. I read in a thread that MPFI pistons can help to add a little hp in a carbed engine. Can anyone tell me why please? Does anyone have any pics to show any visual differences? Cheers Dirk.
  5. I recommend you get this book. It is in my opinion the best worshop manual. http://www.amazon.com/Haynes-Subaru-1100-1300-Manual/dp/0856967297/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266874460&sr=1-3 There is also a manual online here somewhere by Larry Owens 'Keeping your Subaru alive' It is also an excellent reference book. Courtesy of Mr Baccaruder. http://www.worldwidecm.com/HTKYSA.pdf (right-click & save to conserve bandwidth!) Dirk.
  6. Check out this page. Sounds like you may have EA71 engine. http://www.globalcar.com/datasheet/Subaru/Subaru_1600_GFT_Hardtop.htm Cheers Dirk
  7. Diffinately twin carb model. Probably EA62s Maybe Ea71. Either way you got yourself a sporty little number there. Your gonna have a lot of fun. Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum! We expect lots more pictures as soon as you take delivery!
  8. Or he could just leave it in gear with the handbrake on..........
  9. If you can make enough room to do it, I say do it. Sounds like the kind of approach with the least amount of potential trouble. What have you thrown at it so far?
  10. This might help you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EA_engine#EA-62 Cheers Dirk
  11. WOW!:slobber::slobber: I am green with envy. I've seen a couple of these here in NZ but they are nowhere near as eye wateringly beautiful as yours. Looks in fabulous condition too. I'm so jealous I feel sick. I'm guessing its a 1400cc tiwn carb. EA62? Check the number on the engine.
  12. Big respect and best wishes to you Paul. As to a successor: Maybe I be so bold as to suggest 'Quidam' Doug, You are the eternal gentleman. I think you would make a great host for this part of the forum.
  13. Where do you live?

  14. Look what I got from TradeMe for 50 Kiwi's I also got a compression tester. Readings were 162psi plus or minus one or two for all cylinders. Cool! Now I just have to get a vacum gauge. The Weber looks massive compared to the Hitachi so I suspect it will stay on the shelf for another project but I couldn't resist buying it.
  15. How much money do you have? There is a company in NZ called R.I.P.S. (google them) that would do that kind of thing but I think you would have to have plenty of spare cash in your back pocket. I dream of winning the lottery and sending them a gen1 coupe to go nuts on. I love the machine work they do. Amazing attention to detail. Dream on......
  16. When are you next in this neck of the woods? I know a man who may be able to help.

  17. Hey Ben, Sadly it seems that Bio-diesel is not 'all that' either. The whole process for manufacturing bio-diesel requires more energy than what you get out. The best you can do in the way of bio-diesel is to recycle it from oil that already exists. Like oil from deep fat fryers. Not really enough chip shops to support the amount of cars in the world though. Yeah, I saw that film too. Quite an eye opener.
  18. I'm down with that! How about a Dunners to Queenstown Road Trip, Easter Weekend. Wanaka War Birds is on then too. Or maybe a Coastal trip. Dunners to Invercargil?
  19. Ive been toying with the idea of a lift myself. Maybe just a couple of inches and a set of semi-offroad tires. Just enough to have a little fun on the dirt roads. I also fancy cutting the top off and welding the doors shut but that is a retirement project. Only 30 now so I'm a few years off yet.
  20. Hey,

Good luck with the wagon. Are you all good for subie wreckers where you are? There is a good one in Cromwell who has a lot of Gen 1 spares and plenty of sound advice.

    Cheers,

    Dirk.

  21. Hell Yeah! Ill take it. Only problem is transporting to Wanaka. Ill see if there is a way. But my bet is someone will buy it. Not many left out there and there are a few collectors kicking about. Cheers. Dirk
