  1. All right, the engine turns and TC bolts removed!!! Thanks for all the suggestions!
  2. Thanks for the comments. Still trying to free the engine by putting penetrating fluid (Free All) in each cylinder and using a two foot pipe wrench, with a four foot pipe extension, on a socket on the crankcase bolt. Nothing yet, and I have not broken the socket, and I will keep at it the next few days. Would it help maybe to fill each cylinder with diesel or something?
  3. Hello. Thanks for the help on my frozen engine which is still frozen. Another concern I have, however, is that the car was towed with all four wheels on the ground for eleven miles. This according to the guy I bought it from. My Haynes manual says this car cannot be towed more than six miles! I assume this means the transmission is ruined also. If so, I am wondering if it is worth messing with this thing. I would have to replace the tranny and the engine. I paid $400 for the car. The body is straight and the interior is clean. It would be a nice car but... Any thoughts
  4. I bought a 1992 Subaru Loyale 4WD automatic. The car is in good condition with only 154,000 miles. The owner said the car overheated. There is much water in the oil. When I began working to replace the engine, I learned the engine is frozen. I need to remove the bolts from the pressure plate to separate the engine from the transmission. Is there any way to remove the bolts when the engine does not turn? If not, do both the engine and transmission need to be replaced?
  5. I have a 4WD 1992 SW with automatic transmission. As long as it is not in 4WD, can this car be safely towed on a tow dolly with the rear wheels on the ground for 75 miles? Thanks
  6. Heater problem solved. I flushed the heater core both ways and now have lots of heat. Amazing!!

  7. Thanks for information on heater problem. I was able to clear a blockage in the heater core. Still no heat to speak of and the temperature gauge acts strange. Before clearing the blockage, the gauge would rise from cold to operating temperature. Now it rises almost to red and then drops back to operating temperature. Did I do something wrong? Did the blockage just move somewhere else? How can I fix it? Thanks.

  9. My 1992 Loyale heater worked fine until I changed the engine. I assume there is air somewhere in the system but disconnecting the heater hoses and blowing water through the heater core does not help. I have tried squeezing the upper radiator hose with the nose pointed up. No help. Replacing the thermostat. No help. I have tried running the engine with the radiator cap off. Still nothing. Any suggestions? What else can I do?
