Borg Warner C605 Nippy Cap EA-82 Brass Inserts
Flyscooby2 replied to Flyscooby2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey guys: Here is the link where I purchased online: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=BOR&MfrPartNumber=C605 13 buxx plus ship. The manager at Advance Auto said he could not get it even though Parts America owns them. I think you can order from Pep Boys. Even though stamped made in Mexico, it should work better than factory, because brass conduct electricity better than Aluminum. Note use the brass Borg Warner rotor as well. -
Glad I finally found a High Performance distributor cap. Those cheap-rump roast caps that have aluminum inserts burn out fast and the engine runs rough. Now I have a brass rotor with a brass cap. Intalled MSD High vibration coil as well. They never sell you what works well. Flyscooby2 flys again:banana: I still need to do more subframe repair next week.

One thing I fail to mention was that that the overflow tank is always empty. Had heads decked and new head gaskets 5 years ago The supect is the radiator cap. The new hose on the heater core blew a hole the same day. The 13 new psi Stant is suspect. Any more ideas?
-
Yes, now my motor is overcooling. I have replaced the cap with a Stant 13 psi. Is this the correct pressure rating for the OE cap?
-
I am dumbfounded. Every time I put the radiator cap on, then it overheats (what appears to be to much pressure). Leave it off then and it is fine. Some coolant gets out of the spout and works fine, but it barley gets above operating temp.. I have replaced the radiator with rebuild 2 years ago. I also have just replaced the water pump and all hoses (top/bottom radiator, new O-ring at pump inlet w/ sm hose from outlet, and heater core hoses). I have a T on the hose to the heater core for purgeing air. I am currently running WITHOUT thermostat. I thought possibly by using a fiber based block seal the I have cause a blockage....but I do get heat from core. Don't know what could be causing the problem. I thought I purged any air through the T. Please advise. Stacy

Hey: Skipper told me it could be the fuel mgt. gone bad. Wire fuel pump directly to the battery with inline switch.

Front calipers banging around
Flyscooby2 replied to Flyscooby2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They have a loud thunking sound...with no clip could this make this loud thunking sound? THE CLIPS ARE ON CORRECTLY It appears to drag as well. -
Front calipers banging around

Are you talking about the lower bolt (not the pin) holding the caliper on. If that is the case it is there tight. What dose "BTDT on the REAR!!" mean? Could this be strut problem? -
Hey Fellas: I can't figure out why the two front calipers keep bouncing around causing grinding and loud thunk sound on my 86 GL wagon. As I speed up the sound disappears. The driver front is new rebuilt from parts store. The other side did not seem to have a sticky piston. The mounting pins seem to be ok (lubricated them with the correct greese) The only possibilites that I have though of thus far are: 1:) I did not set the pistons correctly 2:)Did not set emergency brake correctly 3:) To much torque on main axel nut (it seem to not do it as much when the axle nut dose not have much torque) 4:) The uncarriage has to much rust and its loosing its geometry. 5:) Motor mounts bad throwing axle out of alignment Do I need my soob die before I do?

Steering Pump Bearing
Flyscooby2 replied to Flyscooby2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have bearing supplier nearby that is very reasonable. I thought that someone might know instead of matching it up. I would rather get the seal kit and bearing and rebuild Thanx anyhow. -
1986 GL Sube Wagon EA82 Carb Manual Trany Anybody have a bearing number for replacement?
-
I still think it is going to be going bad brushes in the motor. Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I was able to find compatable new brushes (Had to do some soldering). Clean the motor very well and has worked great ever since. I to thought it was relays and such....not!

Has any one ever used one? My problem is that I seem to go through a lot of the NAPA version quite often. It seems a though I'm getting to much energy causing premature wear on my rotor. Would using the Accel SS coil be contributing to this wear. Bear in mind the disty has been rebushed. I think I recall Accel had a high performance cap and rotor for the Nippy. I could be wrong. Any ideas what coud be happing?
