Hello all, Need to dust off the account and come out of hiding. I am still plunking away at the engine swap. Here is the issue now. There is fuel getting to the cylinders, and the compressions seems good, but there are some spark issues. At the coil, i cant get spark at one lead and the others are very weak. I am going to check to make sure the signal etc has continuity with the ECU so its all working right but i have a couple questions 1. In my 97 impreza there is an ignitor as part of the ignition system seperate from the coil. But for the life of me i cant find it on the 99 engine. Did they go to a ignition coil/ignitor combo in the newer engines 2. Any ideas where i can find a manual on testing the coil to make sure it is good?? Thanks guys Cory

Its really odd the engine connectors Mate up to the ECU wiring with no problem its just the ECU if for a MAP system and as far as i can tell the engine is MAF because there is no AirAssist Solenoid Valve and there is a connector for a MAF...anyone know of any way to tell exactly what the engine came from and what year?? Thanks Cory

Well here is the deal...old car 97 impreza engine and ECU are gone and out. New engine 2000? 2.5 litre SOHC w/ ECU ( i think its the wrong one cuz when i was splicing it into the existing harness there were no pins on the ECU for the MAF........yet on the engine harness there is a place for a maf??? Hello all, I have a 92' Legacy SS Upgraded to boost etc. I have had it about 8 months and have enjoyed it. As of late though it started to feel a little gutless,,,now it is starting to lurch when i take off in any gear. Its hard to explain but the car surges then lets off surges lets off and jerks around....Any ideas???? I was pondering a fuel filter or a TPS any ideas?? Cory PS i have this posted on bbs.legacycentral.org and am not getting much of a response so any help would be appreciated

Yeah thats what i thought...but the connectors for the MAF and other parts, are on the engine harness, they are NOT part of the BulkHead harness like my other one is...so this means it ties right into the engine wiring going to the ECU...so it seems the easiest way is to find a MAF ECU...what do you think COry

Hello all, Another freekin swap o mine I know I know...anyhow I have collected the parts i need for a brake swap on my L impreza. It has normal disc brakes up front and drums in the back. I have gotten front disc setup from a Turbo Legacy and the rear setup from a Legacy L and am going to swap those. Research i have done so far says its a pretty straight forward swap as long as i have the brake lines in the rear to swap which i do. Any other special considerations anyone has before i go and do this??? Cory

Hello all, More engine swap woes, apparently my engine i swapped in has a MAF. it has a plug on the left side of the engine that i couldnt figure out until i hooked up a MAF,,,but the ECU i have has no Signal for a MAF so i think i need to find the right ECU for the engine. Is there any way i could easily verify exactly what the engine is from so i could match the ECU to it and rewire??? Any suggestions and ideas of when subaru went from a MAF system to a MAP system and if it was across the board? Cory

What fits?

When it comes to flywheel clutch pressure plate, you cannot interchange with a turbo model. It works diffrently. Im sure you can find light flywheels clutches etc for 2.5 RS As for air intakes it depends....if your looking at a K&N drop in filter it should be no problem...if your looking at a short ram or something you may want to make sure by looking at fitment Hope that helps Cory -
Hello All got a couple of questions to help me finish up my engine swap. 1. See picture below. What does that thing go to?? ive never seen one before? This is a SOHC 2.5 litre from a 2000 forrester 2. I think this is the Dropping Resistor for automatics. THis is in from an AT 97 impreza...Any ideas Thanks for the help Cory
