  1. awesome find! Would be a pretty cool mod in you can keep the ea81 intact.
  2. So i wass messin with my car today and did a wheel mock up. First wheel is a 14x8 toyota alloy from a celica I recently scrapped. It has the same offset as the 15" pug alloys I have. This is a pretty rough pug alloy i recently purchased for my spare. Im leaning towards the 14 x 8's if I can get a tire in the 27" range. Got ahold of the beast I drive today and he clued me into a member that has done this 4 on 4 1/2 mod as he's only set up to do the 6 lug conversion. What do you think? Cheers, Mark either way I go is only a temporary solution as a 5 lug and bigger brake mod is definately going to be needed:)
  3. Well it been a while since ive updated but heres whats been happening with my wagon. Ive installed carpet and soon door cards from a GL wagon, received a set of pug lugs to run the 15" alloys and L discs at each corner ( for now ) installed longer brake hoses to retain all the stock anchor points for the lines after lifting it, and picked up a rear tire carrier, once I locate a straight rear bumper I plan on pulling the cover and installing a mount/pivot point for it. Soon to receive some big items for the build, and no more na 5 speed behind the ej20g.
  4. Ive gotten quotes on single cores for as low as 96.00 within the last few months, and twin cores for less than 200.00
  5. http://www.ch601.org/engines.htm you can download fsm's here for your engine
  6. Ive been there, changing to winter wheels I had to break a stud on each wheel once. Any tire shop I visit is told up front "no rattle guns!!" and if possible I keep away from them except for tire mount and balance stuff.
  7. I recently found a cover in like new condition for my 90 wagon, and installed the same mounting hardware as shown, was a bit of work to hit the original holes in the body and quite abit of the plastic had to be drilled and cut to make them fit.
  8. Some years ago I was into racing moto x and flat track.I picked up a cable lube tool at a cycle shop. It clamped around the end of the cable housing and alowed you to pump spray lube into the housing, worked great. Just an idea.
  9. As GG mentioned above the XT6 subaru is your most direct route to a 5 lug conversion. Another option is a 5 lug kit by crossbread conversions, pm shawn w on this site for details. Another option is going 6 lug using all your original parts and being able to run all popular 6 lug toyota, nissan and others 4x4 6 lug rims, read thru the usmb repair manual on the main page..lots of good info
  10. Im not sure what your up against in the area you live, but I was able to part a complete car for about 250.00, anything I wanted..and that helps with the over all budget. One thing im sure of is when its all done I really dont want to know how many dollars ive put into a 20 year old wagon. Good luck dude, Mark
  11. The reference to wood is not to shim but to use it as a pry bar to change the angle of the inner arm as a whole, as I plan to pay for a 4 wheel alignment, pretty typical with an awd car, ill have the guys doing the alignment deal with all the issues, rear and front, including proper radius rod adjustment ( part of a full alignment) and I dont suppose they will be making a bundle off of me:grin: Knowledge is Power
  12. haha, no problem...let us know how it goes:) btw, does anyone have the Subaru Part Number for the piece of wood mentioned in the fsm?
  13. My newly aquired XT6 has just had an oil change to Royal Purple synthetic and Valvoline synthetic trans and diff fluid. Today its new rotors, pads, water pump by pass hose and outer cv boot kits.
  14. ok, heres the info on rear adjustment from an '89 fsm. Ive lifted my wagon, and changed out the inner arms twice as ive upgraded, and the last time I took it off the jack stands When its finally on the road Ill take it to get aligned and definately hand them all the fsm info, not going to mess with this
  15. Rear camber and toe is adjustable on the L series, all thru the 3 bolts located on the inner arm, I can post up the fsm info if needed.
  16. Heres a link to download an ea82 fsm and parts manual. It has the vaccum, emissions and carb sections also. Good luck http://www.ch601.org/engines.htm
  17. Im not sure about fitting other front calipers to your ea82 brackets, but front disc brake cars here are everywhere, and wrecker pricing can be as low as 15 to 20.00 each. You could easily import good used fronts inexpensivley. If your dead set on convertoing to rear pb set up there is an excellent thread on what donor calipers to come up with and you can mix parts with your rear disc calipers. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63647 Good luck, Mark
  18. Thats awesome Dave, whats the hp rating of the R180 vs the R160 set up?
  19. Approach this one carefully, if your budget is 1k and it needs a clutch, possible timing and cooling system parts your budget will be very tight. Might consider negotiating a better price based on what is and possibly needed to make this a dependable car.
  20. So Suber, how many more mod's do your figure are left to do on your GL before all that is left to do is wings?
  21. i can e-mail what i have, not sure if an '89 with 4 plug ecu will be compatible or not Mark pm your email and ill send the info
