Xt6 timing belt tensioners
T'subaru replied to DwayneWeil's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ouch! the fsm calls for removing a rubber plug and screw from the lower side of the adjuster, and using a flat bladed screwdriver at the bottom of the adjuster, turning clockwise to compress the rubber boot, and installing pn 13082AA000 adjuster stopper...looks like I need to buy another tool.... good luck, ill bet if you put up an add here someone would have a good used to hook you up with -

I was an axle newb until reading "chux" writeup, in my case the cv was not servicable on the xt6, as far as i could see and the fsm said the same thing, if your thinking boots boot the cv first then the doj. As far as regreasing I used alot of brake clean and patience.

Youll find a thread by numbchux on axles in the usrm, good info with pics.

I have some axles that were part of a 5 lug xt6 swap on an 89 rx, i can get you a dimension if you like. Seems to me a guy would want xt6 axles if you have a 25 spline trans or change doj to suit your axle stubs. makes sense to me but I could be wrong, I havnt done my own swap yet so dont quote me on this.

I would check into Empi Axles, usually a performance vw parts house or import parts outfit can order them for you, high 60's in price. Im a little leary of Cardone wether they are new or not, i have had alot of problems with the quality of their rebuilt products, just my experience, but I wouldnt install a cardone product even if it was free.

I think I can fund an EJ swap, what can I look for?
T'subaru replied to Cup O Noodles's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
If your going ej Id recommend finding a gen 1 Legacy, usually you can pick up a complete vehicle with issues for around 300 to 500 bucks. The 90 to 94 ej22's are a good engine, and your donor car will provide just about everything you will need. -
Seeing this will be an issue when im done modding my wagon I did some checking around, and also looked for the adapter boxes. I havnt checked cost out yet but if it saves me a speeding ticket or two and having to do math in my head while I drive..its gotta be worth it http://www.tacomaspeedometer.com/index/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=32 Id think there would be similar companies in most major cities.

Excellent information Fenix. Question for you, I recently rebooted the cv's on my xt6 and it was the first time ive messed with servicing them instead of replacing. I could'nt figure out how to remove the cv , and checking my fsm it stated they wernt removable. Is this correct? If so how do they assemble them to the axles? Again, thanks for the info, I purchased mine from carquest also and they supplied empi kits.

So the ea81's run the same ( or similar ) inner arms?
-
Toe and camber is adjustable on the ea82 rears, but i have no experience with ea81's.
-
I just rebooted my first axles on my xt6, I used empi kits and had no problems at all. Ordered along with the cv clamp tool from a carquest here on the coast.

its locking up both front and rear diff's, makes for excellent wheeling if thats what your after not a very technical answer but its all ive got

So...Am I the first to have a Frankenmotor in his Brat?
T'subaru replied to renob123's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Hey renob123, im no authority on subaru performance goodies by far, but a fella in Baja posted up this link to an outfit he swears makes bullit proof trans that he used to run in some of the 250 and 500 races. Cheers, Mark http://www.importperformancetrans.com/subaruauto.shtml#main -

T'subaru replied to renob123's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I started reading this thread and I couldnt stop, imagine installing an engine in your subi that cant be controlled...awesome!! I was hooked, and with all i have going on the last thing I need is to be drawn into doing another project, kind of like a horiffic accident that you just cant take your eyes off of Great job renob123 and GD. I hope you dont break to many parts while figuring out how to tame the beast, and definately hope there is not a big crash. I checked out the video on the idle issue but couldnt get any sound out of it....hey Rick, any chance there was a cheeseburger wrapper left in that one? Good luck guys
